The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson: “ Gears of War was a port but Ultimate Edition won’t be”

A couple of weeks back at the start of June, Rod Fergusson announced that his Vancouver-based team working on the Gears of War franchise will now be referred to as the Coalition. He announced it so as he felt that the new name spoke of what they were as a team, “a Coalition” of individuals coming together for a common purpose. He added:
“When people hear 343 Industries, they associate it with Halo; when they hear Turn 10 Studios, they know that’s who makes Forza. Moving forward, when you hear The Coalition, we want you to think of Gears of War.”

Gears of War is Getting 4K Resolution and it Looks Awesome

While talking about PC Games during the E3 conference Fergusson revealed that the Ultimate Edition of Gears of War will be coming to the PC. And today he told Nvidia that this wasn’t just a straight port (Admitting side by side that the first one was a complete port) and they’re getting 4K resolution for the game as well. Fergusson told NVIDIA:

“In 2007 we released the PC version of Gears of War 1. And really it was a port. That’s not the case with the Ultimate Edition. It’s not a straight port. It’s actually taking all that power, using the power of the Xbox, getting 4K resolution which I’ve seen and looks amazing.”
This release of Gears of War will be an exclusive to Windows 10 and a DX12 only title supporting 4K resolutions. As a Windows 10 release, the game will also host mouse and keyboards support which many PC gamers look forward to. Finally, to top it off, the fact that The Coalition is working with NVIDIA “could” mean that the game will feature some NVIDIA Graphic Card exclusive features which NVIDIA will proudly be showcasing at a later date to market their Graphic Cards (this is just a guess).
We’ll keep you updated with the latest news. Until then, do share your views with us in the comments section!

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition – PC Version is not a Port, Looks “Mindblowing” at 4K

Giuseppe Nelva has made available an awesome video showcasing a cinematic cutscene from the upcoming Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. It features some impressive direct feed, 1080p footage of the game, which can be viewed below:

The PC version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is not a port with all the content being “authored at a much higher rate”

Gears of War developer, The Coalition emphasized that the PC version is not a port. It’s enhanced greatly, and all the content is “authored at a much higher rate.” There are 4K textures all the way through the environment and for the PC they could just “turn off those clamps and unlock it fully, and the world just becomes super crisp.”
The team tested the game at 4K on a 70″ TV and it was “mindblowing.” According to Fergusson, at $39.99 it’s a great deal to go back and get ready for Gears of War 4.
You can view a Video Recap from the SDCC Panel for Gears of War Ultimate Edition below:

Gears of War Ultimate doesn’t have a PC release date

Microsoft is preparing to launch a remastered version of the first Gears of War game at the end of next month, putting the series back on the map ahead of Gears of War 4, which is due to launch some time towards the end of 2016. This game will also be the first in a while to make an appearance on the PC, although it won’t be arriving at the same time as Xbox.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was initially announced for the Xbox One at E3 and then later re-announced for PC. While the Xbox One version will be launching on the 25th of August, the PC version currently has no release date, something that Phil Spencer recently reiterated on Twitter.

Responding to a fan asking if Gears of War Ultimate Edition would launch on the PC and Xbox One at the same time, Spencer said: “Gears on Win10 is later than Xbox One”. Unfortunately, we still don’t know how much later the PC version of the game will actually be.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is a remaster of Epic Games’ 2006 shooter, featuring the five missions that were exclusive to the PC version of the original game. It is worth pointing out that Gamescom is just a few weeks away, so we may hear more then.

Maintaining 60fps on Xbox One was the Biggest Challenge – PC Gamers will Have to Wait for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition

Besides putting all its best efforts into the development of next major Gears of War game for the eighth generation Xbox One console, The Coalition has been busy bathing Epic Games’ most critically acclaimed 2006 military science fiction third-person shooter video game in stunning next-gen visuals and graphical detail. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition allows players to relive the story of humankind’s epic battle for survival in full HD 1080p resolution with smooth 60fps, but according to the developer, it wasn’t easy to deliver all the good stuff at 60fps.

PC Version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Will Follow the Release of Xbox One Version – Maintaining the Visual Effects at 60fps on Xbox One Was the Biggest Challenge

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, the remastered version of the first installment in Microsoft’s bestselling third-person shooter video game franchise, is one of the major triple A games coming to Xbox One as well as PC in the second half of 2015. Although The Coalition claims that remastering Gears of War was more of a learning experience for the studio, the upcoming game is the first title that we will see from the developer, and it will be counted as a proper release, so to make sure the game doesn’t leave any reasons for the fans to doubt the smooth development of Gears of War 4, the developer has made sure it offers the best of original Gears of War experience.
Microsoft’s Xbox One is somewhat notorious for not easily handling next-gen games on full HD 1080p resolution with 60 frames per second, and so to inquire about the challenges that The Coalition faced during the development, GamingBolt talked with Peter, lead designer at the studio. According to him, there were normal ups and downs while remastering the game, but the biggest challenge that the team faced was to maintain smooth 60 frames per second without compromising the quality of all the in-game visual and lighting effects.

“It was fine but just like any other game project there are ups and downs,” said Peter. “Technically speaking, the biggest challenge was maintaining 60 frames per second. Maintaining all the visual effects and lighting effects [at 60fps], I mean it looks beautiful when running at 60 fps.”
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was expected to launch simultaneously on PC and Xbox One on August 25, but much to PC gamers’ grief, Microsoft has decided to delay the PC version of the game for, obviously, better reasons. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer first broke the news on Twitter while replying to a fan who wanted to know about the release date of the PC version. “Gears on Win10 is later than Xbox One version,” he wrote. Later, a Microsoft spokesperson provided IGN with the following clarification statement:
“The Windows 10 version of ‘Gears of War: Ultimate Edition’ will release at a later time, following the release of the Xbox One version on Aug. 25. The team decided to prioritize polish and performance over street date – to make sure we deliver a great experience for PC gamers. The DX12 version will support 4K resolution, unlimited refresh rates and controller and mouse and keyboard controls, so there was a bit more for us to test, optimize and perfect.”
For now, that’s all we know about the PC version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. The Xbox One version of the game recently went gold, and is already available for pre-order and pre-download in the Xbox store. Players can choose from two different versions of the game; the Standard Edition that will set you back $39.99 and the Deluxe Edition that will retail for $59.99. You can check out details for both the packages here.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition – New Details Revealed for the Upcoming Xbox One and PC DX12 Exclusive

Some new information came to light about Gears of War Remastered Edition, which reveals some more details regarding the upcoming Xbox One and PC title.

Gamespresso has listed the new details as are presented below:

    • Brand new character models and props for all game modes
    • Split-screen co-op now divides horizontally
    • Cut-scenes recreated using motion capture and advanced animation techniques such as skin-sliding
    • New lighting and gas effects
    • The Tac-Com vision filter now shows heavy weapon drop locations in multiplayer
    • Players can spot enemy players and self-revive when downed
    • The weapon selector can be used when performing a roadie run allowing players to queue up a weapon to be equipped when the roadie run ends
    • Level progression and XP in multiplayer

In an interview with OXM, The Coalition’s studio head Rod Fergusson states:
“The fundamentals of Gears haven’t changed. All the metrics and mechanics are the same. What Epic created initially has endured over ten plus years. There’s a magic there in what they created, so it wasn’t a lot of work on our part to make it better. It was more about finding rough edges and filing them off. There were things Gears of War didn’t originally do because they didn’t have time or they didn’t have the resources.”
Fergusson went on to highlight how The Coalition’s team discovered what improvements needed to be made by inviting pro players to test the build.
Fergusson also explains that the studio brought in pro players to test the game and relied on their feedback to enhance the experience.

“About seven or eight months ago we brought in a bunch of pro players when the game was very early on, gave them a chance to test out what the game felt like at 60fps, and also give us much feedback. So yeah, we’ve been working really closely with them from the beginning to get a sense of what they want, and figure out how we take what they remember and improve it. So things like enemy marking, switching weapons, less sticky cover, being able to interrupt a SWAT turn… All small things, but they make a big difference when you’re playing competitively.”

'Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition' Will Include Entire Series

Aside from brand new titles, the Xbox press conference at E3 had a few things in store for the nostalgic crowd. The big wave came with the new Backwards Compatibility feature that allowed players to use their favorite Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One, including the popular Gears of War franchise. In addition, the first game in the series was getting its own remake called Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. However, Microsoft recently added a few more surprises to the remake.
Thanks to the Backwards Compatibility feature, buying Gears of War: Ultimate Edition between August 25 and December 31, 2015 will give you access to the rest of the games in the series. If you didn't have an Xbox 360 or didn't purchase the original games in their physical disc forms, the "new" title should have them as downloads.
However, Backwards Compatibility means that you don't really need Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, because the series was one of the most sought-out titles for Xbox One compatibility, and you can still use the original discs to play it in the coming months. (Hopefully, yours aren't scratched.)
If you do get the game, it's important to note that only the first Gears of War title is getting a remake. In addition to a graphical upgrade, it includes new maps, modes, a harder difficulty level and early access to the beta of Gears of War 4. The other titles are just the same Xbox 360 games that now work with the Xbox One.

Gears of War Original vs. Ultimate Edition Graphics Comparison Showcases Great Enhancements

YouTuber Candyland released a video comparison, showcasing the visual differences between the original Gears of War and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which can be viewed below:

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will support DX12 for enhanced performance and visual fidelity

Being an exclusive Windows 10 release, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will make use of DirectX 12 to improve performance and graphical fidelity, ideal for playing at 4K with high frame-rates.
The story of “Gears of War” thrusts gamers into a deep and harrowing battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surfaced from the bowels of the planet. Players live and breathe the role of Marcus Fenix. A disgraced former war hero, Marcus seeks personal redemption as he leads his fire team against an onslaught of merciless warriors from below.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will release for the Xbox One on August 25, 2015, with the PC release to follow at a later date. We will bring you any new information on Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and any other Gears related news as soon as it becomes available.

Iconic Gears of War 'Mad World' trailer updated for Ultimate Edition version

Back in 2006, the trailer for the original Gears of War became one of the most iconic and memorable pieces of video game marketing in the medium’s history, thanks in no small part to its use of Gary Jules’ cover of the 1982 Tears For Fears track 'Mad Word'. Now, video game developer The Coalition and publisher Microsoft have released a trailer for Gears of War: Ultimate Edition that pays tribute to the original, using the same music track and mixing CG footage from the first GOW with in-game footage of the upcoming remastered edition.
The two companies state, "Paying tribute to the original, the video opens with CG footage from the first Gears and then transitions into in-game footage from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which has been completely remastered in 1080p and modernized with 60fps multiplayer."
In addition to the increases in resolution and framerate, the Ultimate Edition of Gears of War will include updated controls tuned for the Xbox One, improved textures, better lighting, and a general graphical overhaul. Moreover, anyone who buys and plays the new game before the end of the year will get access to all previous Xbox 360 Gears of War titles through the upcoming backwards compatibility feature. The Ultimate Edition also brings 90 to 120 minutes of additional content that was only available on the game's PC release in 2007.
Gear of War: Ultimate Edition will be released for the Xbox One on August 25 in North America and three days later in Europe. It was recently revealed that the game will take up 44.42GB on the console and cross-platform play will be supported when it is released for the PC at a later date.

Don’t Worry About The PC Version Of Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Says Director of Community

Gears of War Ultimate Edition, a remaster of the original release, debuted on Xbox One in late August (you can read Jeff’s thoughts in our detailed review).

However, the game was also confirmed at E3 2015 to be headed to PC within the year, bringing DX12/4K support and unlocked frame rate amongst other enhancements.
Despite this, we’re close to the end of the year and there is no news, which prompted some discussions among the fans on the official forums. Director of Community Adam Fletcher stepped in to post a little update, saying that there is no cause for concern.
    Hey guys –
We do not have any news to share at this time for the PC version. I know some are worried but please don’t fret. We are wanting to make sure polish and performance are prioritized on the PC version so that you all have a great experience.
Once we have additional information, I can tell say you will be the first to know. I’m pretty stoked for the PC version myself as I am an avid PC gamer
It’s always nice when developers make sure that their games are properly polished and optimized for PC, however this shouldn’t be an issue for Gears of War Ultimate Edition since the game is pretty old at this point, even with the new makeup that comes with the remastered version.
At this point, a release in early 2016 seems very likely. How eager are you to play Gears of War Ultimate on PC? Let us know in the comments!

Realmente, prefiro que demorem mas lançarem um jogo bem feito do que um port manhoso à pressa.
