Samsung launches five new curved monitors

Today Samsung launched five new curved monitors. All of the new monitors use VA panels and their sizes range from 23.5 to 29-inches. Some models have 3000R curvature while others boast a less pronounced 4000R curvature. South Korean rival LG launched a 29-inch curved monitor last week.
Seog-Gi Kim, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics said of the launch "This year is shaping up to be the year of the curved monitor, as more consumers and businesses turn to curved displays to achieve a more comfortable viewing experience". All else being equal would readers opt for a curved panel over a traditional flat one? If not, this definitely isn't going to be the 'year of the curved monitor' as far as HEXUS readers are concerned

The new range sees the introduction of more features designed to bring comfort to its users. The new panels boast both an eye-saver mode with reduced blue light levels and flicker free technology. These technologies are especially appealing to users who have to work for long periods in front of a monitor screen. Such users should feel more comfortable and less fatigued during their workday.
If not being used for work then the new curved screens can provide great immersion in entertainment titles. They boast high contrast ratios, bright highlights and deep blacks with intelligent image correction for games, for example. Samsung has also thought of sustainability and energy efficiency with these new monitors with a new eco-saving plus mode.
    Model SE790C SE590C SE591C SE510C
    Model Name S29E790C S32E590C S27E591C S24E510C S27E510C
    Design Curved Display
    Display Size 29″ (21:9) 31.5” (16:9) 23.5” (16:9) 27” (16:9) 27” (16:9)
    Curvature 3000R 3000R 4000R 4000R
Resolution Wide FHD (2560×1080) FHD (1920×1080)
    Response Time 4ms (GTG)
    Brightness 300 cd/m2 350 cd/m2 250 cd/m2
    Contrast Ratio 3000:1 5000:1 3000:1 3000:1
    Color Support 16.7M (8 bit)
    Viewing angle 178:178 (H/V)
Design Color(s) Black & Metallic Silver Black & Metallic Silver Black Black White High Glossy
    Stand Type Curved T-Shape
As you can see from the above, most of these monitors only offer FHD 1080p resolution. Even the flagship 29-inch SE790C only offers 2560 x 1080 pixels. This wide FHD monitor makes the most of this extra screen real estate by offering both Picture-by-Picture (PbP) and Picture-in-Picture (PiP) 2.0 functionality.

Although a game mode is offered by the new monitor range - to correct blurry images, enhance colours and alter contrast intelligently in gaming scenarios - the spec above doesn't mention gaming technology such as adaptive refresh rates. Actually we don't even have any basic spec about these monitors' refresh rates. Samsung is yet to divulge availability and pricing information.

    Review: Philips Brilliance BDM4065UC monitor

    Introduction

Scaling-related issues have acted as a deterrent to many people interested in making the step up to an ultra-high-resolution, namely 4K UHD. While gaming at UHD is a pleasant experience, irrespective of screen size, productivity applications are often subject to different problems such as distorted text and UI elements. Windows scaling goes a small way to fix these issues but ultimately the best and problem-free solution is to use no scaling with a resolution appropriate for the monitor size.
There is no hard-coded rule for what resolution is most appropriate for specific desktop monitor sizes, but broadly speaking, FHD works best with 21 to 24in, QHD with 24 to 32in and UHD with 32in or more. Mileage will vary, depending on the user and the operating system, but to make productive use of UHD bigger really is better. Philips has picked up on this with its latest monitor creation, the BDM4065UC from its Brilliance series.
Measuring in at 40 inches with a UHD (3,840x2,160) resolution the BDM4065UC targets PC users. A quick glance might have you assuming this behemoth is intended as a TV yet Philips is targeting this display squarely at the desktop environment with a 60Hz refresh rate, USB 3.0 hub and selection of Picture in Picture (PiP) and Picture by Picture (PbP) operational modes to enhance productivity.
    Design and Connectivity

The Philips BDM4065UC has an imposing presence in any environment due to its towering size and robust metal stand. The overall aesthetic is TV-like with stylish lines and no overt hint at monitor-features. Most notably there are no OSD buttons or any form of monitor branding, IPS or EnergyStar certifications, for example. Most likely this is because the Philips BDM4065UC shares its chassis with the Philips 40PUS6809 SmartTV released in Q3 of last year.

Moving around to the rear and Philips has lavished the BDM4065UC with an array of connectivity that seems workplace-targeted. A four-port USB 3.0 hub with fast-charging capability is paired with a total of five display inputs and a 200mm-by-200mm Vesa mount. Those five display inputs include HDMI 2.0, MHL-HDMI, mini-DisplayPort, DisplayPort and VGA. Audio is catered for with a pair of 7W stereo speakers, a 3.5mm line-in jack and a 3.5mm headphone-out jack.
The large numbers of display inputs are required for the advanced PbP mode which can support two, three or four separate inputs at the same time. For office users this means you can work on four separate systems concurrently by splitting the UHD panel into, effectively, four 1080p panels.

The stand is disappointingly basic for a productivity-orientated monitor with absolutely no adjustment options - tilt, pivot and height adjustment are all absent. Such a glaring omission is a consequence of Philips deciding to repurpose its TV chassis for a desktop monitor. The aforementioned 200mm Vesa mount can be paired up with a custom monitor arm for users who need adjustment options.

The Z+ Pro sets ARCTIC‘s monitor arm series one above it

The Z+ Pro sets ARCTIC‘s monitor arm series one above it
Only recently ARCTIC has equipped the workplace for all needs with the new Z Pro monitor arm series. The Z + Pro sets now one above on it.
For the extra overview the extension kit enables to top the PC system by an additional display. Whether you currently work with a Z1 Pro, Z2 Pro or Z3 Pro, the Z+ Pro can be easily mounted above and increases the viewing area in no time.
While on the main screen an exciting car race is running, the further monitor is qualified to keep in view important processes in parallel.
Thanks to the ball joint design the Z+ Pro can be turned through 360°. Without taking the monitor down the swivel function can be adjusted with the mounting head in just a few seconds.
Also the installation couldn’t be more user friendly – just attach the mounting plate to the back of the monitor, fix the monitor to the arm by sliding in from top, ready! You don’t even need two more arms for help…
QUICK FACTS Z+ Pro Extension Kit to Add a Further Display
•Allows additional use of another screen above the monitors
•3 stages of articulation for 360° adjustable viewing angle
•Ball joint design for easy finger adjustment
•Easy Installation with detachable monitor heads
•For comfortable and efficient work with several programs simultaneously

    Video Perspective: LG 34UM95 34-in 3440x1440 21:9 Ultra-widescreen Monitor

A monitor for those that like it long

It takes a lot to really impress someone that sits in front of dual 2560x1600 30-in IPS screens all day, but the LG 34UM95 did just that. With a 34-in diagonal 3440x1440 resolution panel forming a 21:9 aspect ratio, built on LG IPS technology for flawless viewing angles, this monitor creates a work and gaming experience that is basically unmatched in today's market. Whether you need to open up a half-dozen Excel or Word documents, keep an eye on your Twitter feed while looking at 12 browsers or run games at near Eyefinity/Surround levels without bezels, the LG 34UM95 is a perfect option.

Originally priced north of $1200, the 34UM95 and many in LG's 21:9 lineup have dropped in price considerably, giving them more avenues into users' homes. There are obvious gaming advantages to the 34-in display compared to a pair of 1920x1080 panels (no bezel, 20% more pixels) but if you have a pair of 2560x1440 screens you are going to be giving up a bit. Some games might not handle 21:9 resolutions well either, just as we continue to see Eyefinity/Surround unsupported occasionally.
Productivity users will immediately see an improvement, both for those us inundated with spreadsheets, web pages and text documents as well as the more creative types with Adobe Premiere timelines. I know that Ken would definitely have approved us keeping this monitor here at the office for his use.
Check out the video above for more thoughts on the LG 34UM95!

LG begins promoting 8K, with its massive 7680x4320 resolution

While 4K isn't exactly mainstream, LG has started talking about 8K and that "the world is turning to 8K". In a press release, the company has teased that 8K is coming, and it'll be here in the coming years.

When the BBC took control of broadcasting the 2012 olympics, they said "Since 8K resolution is the highest resolution that the human eye is capable of seeing, it will put an end to the resolution discussion,' predicting that 'ultimately, 8K images will overtake the market". 8K sees a huge 7680x4320 resolution, pumping out four times the pixels that 4K offers, and 16 times what 1080p provides at 1920x1080.

LG has announced that it has "expanded the UHD lineup and is showing off diverse range of screen sizes with super-high resolution displays such as 8K". The South Korean giant showed off its 98-inch 8K UHD display at CES 2015 earlier this year, but are teasing that they will be making "great strides" into the super-high resolution display era.

Ainda nem o 4K está massificado ou sequer a ser utilizado como um padrão normal e já se está a falar em 8K...
