BenQ Started to Ship Their 84-Inch 4K Multitouch Panels

BenQ’s huge RP840G ten-point multitouch, 84-inch, 4K UHD interactive display has started to ship now and it looks great. It is intended for use in conference rooms, classrooms, and similar situations, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want one of these for my living room.
The RP840G provides multiplatform compatibility with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS, has multi-PC touch control via USB, and QCast software to share content easily from any PC or smart device. It also has hotkeys directly on the front of the bezel for easier overall operation.

The panel facilitates easy IT maintenance using BenQ’s Multiple Display Administrator (MDA) software that provides remote management over the LAN connection that includes offsite shutdown. The included DisplayNote teaching software enables audience members to collaborate and contribute to any presentation in real-time via their tablets or laptops.
“Our RP840G multitouch panel was designed to provide an incredible value proposition for today’s connected environments,” said Bob Wudeck, Associate Vice President, Strategy and Business Development at BenQ America Corp. “By providing 4K UHD resolution and 10 touch points across 84 inches, the panel allows for presenters to easily interact with any onscreen content. To further increase collaboration, the display lets users pair their handheld devices, bringing audience participation to an entirely new level.”

As an added bonus, BenQ has partnered with Omnivision to bundle the Omnitapps Showcase interactive software with the RP840G for free. Omnitapps Showcase is an entry-level, multitouch display software tool ideally suited for any location that requires the ability to communicate with users and customers in a highly intuitive and interactive manner.
Sadly no word on pricing on this monster of a monitor. I guess the BenQ RP840G is one of those things where you just don’t ask for a price.
Thanks to BenQ for providing us with this information

Eight Ultra HD (4K) monitors review

    Introduction

We've been waiting for resolutions higher than Full-HD for a long time now but it's finally here. 2014 was the year of Ultra HD, not just for televisions but also on you're desk. Hardware.info has tested eight different UHD-monitors so far and in the next few pages will show our findings and opinions on them.
Processors and graphics cards get faster every year, memory becomes cheaper and comes in larger capacities and storage wise we have the choice of either super fast and ever more affordable solid state storage or hard disks up to 6 TB. Monitors however have mainly only gotten cheaper. The last few years we have seen the rise of affordable IPS or VA-based models which offer superior colour reproduction and viewing angles. At the same time TN-based monitors are being sold for next to nothing. Only people with a bunch of extra cash could afford to invest in a WQHD monitor with 2560x1440 pixels which is only available on a 27 inch panel. This meant that for a long time there wasn't a whole lot of choice if you were looking for a new monitor.
This will all change now, there are a lot of new and exciting innovations happening when it comes to monitors. We now have other WQHD-panels in different sizes, there are several new monitors with a 21:9 aspect ratios (mainly thanks to LG Display) and most of all we are going to see many new Ultra-HD monitors in all different panel sizes. In this article we will discuss some of these new 4K screens.
    Toda a analise:

Monoprice 30-inch IPS LED Monitor Review

In the land of value-priced peripherals, Monoprice is king. After adding monitors to its many offerings, we decided to check one out in our lab. This 30-inch IPS LED screen definitely qualifies as jumbo. Today we see how it performs.
No matter what monitors we review, a great many of your comments focus on price. We try to test high-end models in an effort to report on the latest advances in display technologies, and so the more budget-friendly products sometimes receive less coverage.

If you look beyond the offerings from major manufacturers, however, there are some good deals to be found online. Unfortunately, it’s much more difficult for us to get our hands on those screens because they often come and go before we have a chance to test them. In 2013, we managed to get an Auria EQ267W in the lab and found it be good-performing monitor at an unbeatable price. If you’re in the market for a 27-inch QHD/IPS screen, they are still available. And of course, gamers will want to check out Overlord’s Tempest X270OC, another 27-inch IPS that runs at up to 120Hz.
Today we’re checking out a unique offering from Monoprice, the 30-inch IPS LED. Yes, that’s really its name. There's no alphabet soup to mess with. And here’s the best part: it sports a 16:10 aspect ratio. We’ve long lamented how rare this screen size has become, and we’re glad to see you can buy one in a jumbo size for such a low price.

Known merely as “Product 10734” the 30-inch IPS LED is listed (as I write this) for $689.33 at Monoprice.com. Considering the competition is both low in quantity and higher in price, it’s a steal for a monitor this big (especially one with a 16:10 aspect ratio).
Looking at our most recent reviews, the only other screen in its class is the BenQ BL3200PT, a 32-inch VA-based panel with 2560x1440 resolution and super-high contrast. But that one sports a 16:9 aspect ratio and offers only the sRGB color gamut. To find a closer match to the Monoprice, we had to go all the way back to June 2013 when we reviewed 30-inch 16:10 panels from HP and DoubleSight. The HP has since been replaced by a newer model, while you can still buy a DS-309W for around $1100.
You probably won't want to, though. The Monoprice one-ups both competitors with the addition of a GB-r-LED backlight. The HP and DoubleSight use CCFL. Not only is the LED more energy-efficient, but it enables the wider Adobe RGB gamut. This is not something Monoprice mentions in its description; we discovered it during testing.
So we have a solidly-built 30-inch 16:10 jumbo screen at a low price. But does it perform well? We found a few quirks during our evaluation, but with careful adjustment (which we’ll show you how to do expense-free), you can get a decent image and save about $400 over the DoubleSight. Let’s take a look.

Sharp denies display business sell off

    Rumours wrong
A senior Sharp executive has denied that the Japanese company wants to flog off its failing display business, after it warned it will likely book its third annual net loss in four years.

This time Sharp is blaming weak demand from Chinese smartphone makers and it will book a net loss of $256 million this fiscal year through March compared with a previous forecast of a 30 billion net profit.
Rumours abounded that Sharp may need to reconsider its strategy including a possible sale of the display business.
But Sharp Executive Director Kazunori Houshi told reporters that it was "not considering the option" of selling the display business and that he believed the downturn in demand from Chinese smartphone makers would be temporary.
All this means is that Sharp will be a little more patent before it throws in any towel. Besides it might be a little difficult to sell the business at the moment.

LG gently curves 29-inch 1440p panel

    Affordable, sort of
The new LG Electronics 29UC97-S curved 21:9 display is slowly making its way to retail, and it offers a more sensibly priced alternative to LG’s 34-inch displays.

With the 29UC97-S, LG is going a bit smaller and cheaper. The company already has a number of curved 34-inch panels, but they usually retail in the €950-1000 range in Europe, which means they are reserved for enthusiasts with rather deep pockets.
    Generous spec

The new 29UC97-S is based on an AH-IPS panel, rated at 300cd/m2, with a response time of 5ms. The static contrast ratio is 1000:1, while dynamic contrast comes in at 5000000:1. The resolution is the same as what you'd get from one of LG's 34-inch panels – 3440x1440 pixels.

Plenty of connectivity options are on board, including two HDMI ports, DisplayPort 1.2, two Thunderbolt 20Gbps ports and a couple of USB 3.0 plugs.
There’s no G-Sync or FreeSync though, which is something a lot of gamers would appreciate. LG offers FreeSync on one if its 34-inch SKUs, but the 29-incher is not in the same league in terms of pricing.

The full spec is available on an official LG site, in case you happen to know Ukrainian. If not, you can always use Google Translate, there’s really no need to send “volunteers” across the border or shoot airliners out of the sky.
LG Electronics 29UC97-S pricing and availability

We found the new 29-incher listed at €649, which is quite a bit less – although it’s no bargain. The listings come from German retailers, so the rest of the continent shouldn’t be far off. This is not the official MSRP. As far as North America and the UK go, we really can’t say for sure due to the euro’s weakness.

Like we said, it’s not exactly a cheap monitor, but as far as curved 21:9 displays go, it is a relatively good catch. Plus, it's the only 29-inch unit out there, so there is frame of reference.
Now how about a FreeSync SKU? Come on LG...

    Review: Philips Moda 2

    Introduction and design

There's only so much that can be done with a monitor in terms of design and functionality, as the majority of the focus relates to resolution, panel type and cost. In that sense the new £280 Philips Moda 2 isn't trying to reinvent the wheel but is bringing something new to market.
Philips Moda 2 is a recently-launched monitor that integrates two 7W Bluetooth speakers into the stand for consumers who live and die by their mobile devices. Better still is the ultra-slim, 6mm bezel that keeps the monitor looking stylish, which is a welcome variation to the mass of low-cost 1080p displays sporting clunky and uninspiring designs.
The Philips Moda 2 arrives in 23.6in and 27in varieties, and both sport the same 1,920 x 1,080 resolution with AH-IPS panels. In addition to the Bluetooth speaker the inclusion of Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) is another trait that makes this monitor suitable for mobile-centric users.
    Design and connectivity

The Philips Moda 2 (275C5QHAW) is available in black and white options and, as mentioned, has a relatively thin and sleek design. The thinness is attributable to the decision to locate the power supply externally by using a laptop-style power brick. The sleekness derives from the 6mm bezel which comprises of a 3.5mm black strip on the panel itself and then a 2.5mm plastic edge

Connectivity is reflective of the resolution deployed, HDMI- and VGA-in provide widespread compatibility for most desktop users, while DVI is present on other models. The second HDMI port doubles as the MHL connection for hooking up to compatible mobile devices. The particular MHL implementation used is passive so can transfer audio and video data streams whilst charging the device at the same time, making it a convenient all-in-one solution.

Audio is catered for with a headphone-out port as well as an audio-in connection; both are for standard 3.5mm jacks. The built-in audio gets an upgrade from the usual tinny 1W or 2W integrated speakers that are normally found inside monitors. The Moda 2 packs a pair of 7W speakers in a 2.0 configuration along with that Bluetooth connectivity. The speaker is reasonably well hidden inside the stand and the desk mounting provides enough feedback for reasonable bass.

Philips provides no alternative mounting options with the Moda 2, such as a VESA mount, since removing the stand would also entail removing the speaker and its electrical connections to the display. The Moda 2 is reasonably thin as the power supply components are relocated to a colour-coordinated power brick, and a tie-loop is fitted to the stand for improved cable management. The stand has only tilt adjustment which is a little primitive for the price point.

ASUS Announces Designo MX27AQ WQHD LCD Monitor

ASUS Designo MX27AQ is a 27-inch, WQHD (2560 x 1440) LCD monitor with stereo speakers powered by a combination of ICEpower, a Bang & Olufsen technology, a MobileSound 3 chip and ASUS SonicMaster tuning. ASUS’ AudioWizard is actually built in to the monitor itself, with four pre-set audio modes (Music, Movie, Gaming, User) that can be accessed through an on-screen display (OSD) menu.
As a large surface, arguably the first thing you’ll notice on someone’s desk is their monitor, which is why if you appreciate design at home or need to make an impression in the office, it needs to be good looking. The MX series has this in spades, with the MX27AQ having recently picking up the 2015 iF Award for it’s brushed metal style stand, an ultra-slim profile that measures just 1.25cm at its thinnest point and an edge-to-edge frameless panel with a bezel thickness of just 0.1cm.
On the display front – WQHD resolution provides up to 25% sharper images and 77% more onscreen space than similarly-sized Full HD displays (89 PPI versus 109 PPI). The appeal to professional and pro-sumers extends beyond the outer design as the MX27AQ features an ‘advanced high performance in-plane switching’ (AH-IPS) panel that delivers 100M:1 smart contrast ratio and 100% sRGB color space, as well as 178-degree wide viewing angles to eliminate color shift when viewed from the side, like when you’re showing friends or clients for example. ASUS QuickFit Virtual Scale is also built into the OSD software.
It’s 5ms response is good enough for casual gaming and it even has ASUS GamePlus inside too. ASUS Eye Care with anti-flicker and blue-light filter technologies are also built in.

With a WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and a super short response time of just 1 ms, the 27″ (68.6 cm) AOC Q2778VQE is not only ideal for enjoying fast-paced games and movies in full detail. Professional users also benefit greatly from the impressive screen real estate, e. g. while working with complex multi-window applications or high-resolution imagery.

Display specialist AOC's new WQHD monitor AOC Q2778VQE boasts a 27″ (68.6 cm) TN panel with an aspect ratio of 16:9, wide viewing angles (170° horizontal / 160° vertical) and a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. This way, computer games can be enjoyed in significantly richer detail than with standard Full HD monitors. In addition, entertainment users in particular benefit greatly from the extremely short response time of just 1 ms, which virtually eliminates ghosting effects. This way, players and movie enthusiasts can enjoy crisp and clear images even during fast-paced, action-packed scenes. The monitor's super-fast DisplayPort input option is an ideal choice to transmit high resolution content in a particularly smooth way.

But also professional users can gain a significant boost in productivity from the AOC Q2778VQE. The large amount of pixels allows for more application windows to be displayed at the same time, which makes multitasking a lot easier. Thanks to the large 27″ (68.6 cm) screen, all contents appear still big enough to be recognised without a problem. But also individual applications such as graphic programs benefit greatly from the higher resolution.

Photographers, for example, can let their photos come to live in incredible detail, and easily manipulate tiny details without needing to zoom in as much as with lower resolution displays. The monitor's high brightness of 350 cd/m² makes photos and other contents look even better.

    Versatile and efficient
In order to give users a variety of options for connecting different image sources, the AOC Q2778VQE comes with DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI and
D-Sub connectors. This way, it is no problem to e.g. hook up a video game console and several computers at the same time.

The display's high performance and versatility do not come at the cost of sustainability. The AOC Q2778VQE comes with the clever energy saving features Eco Mode and e-Saver. The monitor also fulfils strict regulations such as EnergyStar 6.0 and TCO 6.0. As with all of its displays, AOC offers a 3 year warranty with on-site exchange service.

The AOC Q2778VQE is available now at a suggested retail price of 299 GBP.

Asus MG279Q 27" 120Hz IPS Panel Gets VRR

Earlier on we already reported about this gaming monitor. but according to new info the MG279Q will apparently support Adaptive Sync variable refresh rate (VRR). The screen supports Adaptive Sync and DisplayPort 1.2a+ (needed for VRR to function), but doesn’t actually have an affiliation with either branded variable refresh rate technology.
Here's some good news, AMD will not have a whitelist/blacklist policy for FreeSync displays and that as long as a monitor adheres to the standards of DP 1.2a+ then they will operate in the variable refresh rate window as defined by the display's EDID.”
According to the Asus rep they spoke to, the screen will have a minimum refresh rate around 40Hz, and maximum of 120Hz. The new MG279Q is 27" in size and offers a 2560 x 1440 resolution IPS-type panel. It supports refresh rates up to 120Hz.
Spec wise there is a 5ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 cd/m2 brightness and 178/178 viewing angles. The screen offers a narrow bezel design, and a full range of ergonomic adjustments from the stand. DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, 2x HDMI and 1x MHL connections are provided. There is also a 2 port USB 3.0 hub included.

No word on pricing or availability yet. The title says it all for this one. The upcoming MG279Q is a gaming monitor focus on giving gamers who demand superior viewing angles and color reproduction a new choice when it comes to a low response and high refresh rate monitor.
This is a upcoming monitor purpose built for gamers who have been looking for an IPS based display with refresh rates higher than 60Hz. While the monitor is still in design and development stages the initial specifications and features and functionality are great.

    • Panel size: 27 inches
    • Resolution: 2560 x 1440
    • Refresh rate: up to 120Hz
    • Response time: 5ms ( GTG )
    • Contrast ratio: 1000:1
    • Brightness: 350 cd/m²

In addition the new MG279Q includes an easy-to-navigate on-screen display (OSD) with a five-way navigation joystick and hotkey shortcuts, an ergonomic design with full tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment, and a smart cable-management system in a super narrow bezel design. Connections include DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, two HDMI ports (for native WQHD) and a Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) 2.0 socket for 1080p connections to mobile devices, plus simultaneous charging. The MG279Q also has a built-in dual USB 3.0 hub.
Asus have reportedly said at CES that the screen will ship late in Q1 and at a retail price of $599 USD.

AOC U3477PQU WQHD 34 inch LCD Monitor Review

    INTRODUCTION

Right now 4k 2160p UHD resolution is what 2k 1080p Full HD resolution was roughly 5-6 years ago so naturally every single LCD/TFT manufacturer out there is launching models that support 4k. Just like with 1080p all LCDs and TFTs that support the new 4k 2160p resolution are obviously not created equal and thus consumers should really do their homework prior to finalizing their choice especially since 4k is relatively new in the market. On top of that we all feel that the minimum inches required to really appreciate and experience 4k in all its glory is 27 with 30+ being the ideal scenario so this is also something consumers need to take into consideration. AOC recently send us their 28 inch 4k solution which was quite good although far from being excellent mainly due to input lag during testing. Well today with us we have the latest 34 inch solution by AOC the U3477PQU WQHD Ultra High Resolution monitor.

AOC is one of the global top brands in the display market. High quality, first-rate service, an attractive design as well as environmentally friendly and innovative products at competitive prices are the reasons why more and more consumers and distribution partners trust in AOC. The exceptionally broad product range of computer displays has won numerous awards. AOC is a subsidiary of TPV Technology Limited, the world’s largest LCD manufacturer. AOC serves the Western European, Middle East and African markets from its headquarters in Amsterdam. The Eastern European and CIS markets are served by a local office in Prague. Through its network of local sales teams AOC works with all major IT distributors and resellers.

The U3477PQU 21:9 WQHD Ultra High Resolution monitor is the latest member in the Pro-Line by AOC and although it doesn't support 4k like the TN panel of the U2868PQU still its IPS panel with its 1440p resolution should be more than enough for its aspect ratio not to mention better in some/most areas (noticeably viewing angles, color reproduction and crispness). To get more into detail the U3477PQU actually uses an 10bit (8bit native + 2bit FRC dithering) AH-IPS panel (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) with a WLED backlight rated at 320 cd/m2, 40M:1 contrast ratio, 5ms grey to grey (GTG) response time and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Now i have to admit that with all the GSync/FreeSync compatible monitors out there i too (at least at first) had my concerns regarding that last part but experience has taught me that it always comes down to just how good the monitor is overall (for example i never had that issue working with the 3090WQXi2 by NEC) so we'll see if this really affects gaming at all later on.

Monoprice CrystalPro 28-Inch 4K Monitor Review

Nearly every monitor manufacturer has a 28-inch TN Ultra HD monitor in its line-up. Today we’re looking at Monoprice’s CrystalPro 4K. Even though it’s based on the same part as its competitors, you get quality that matches or exceeds those displays.
Most of our monitor coverage at Tom’s Hardware encompasses mainstream brands. But occasionally we venture off the beaten path and review products you won’t find at the big-box stores.

Monoprice began in 2002 by selling low-priced HDMI cables. At a time when companies like Monster were charging $100 for a six-foot cable, Monoprice would sell you one just as good for $9.95. A few years ago, it branched out into other peripheral products, and in 2013 started selling a line of monitors. Today, there are seven displays for sale, ranging from 24 to 30 inches with resolutions between 1080p and Ultra HD.
Recently we reviewed the 30-inch IPS LED model and found it useful, if a little dated technologically. The screen performs well compared to monitors from two and three years ago, and offers solid build quality. But since today’s review subject, the CrystalPro 4K, is priced much nearer to its competition, Monoprice will have to up the performance ante.
We know that only four companies actually manufacture LCD panels: Samsung, LG, AU Optronix and Innolux. And only the last one makes a 3840x2160 part in a 28-inch TN form. Innolux lists a 2013 and 2014 version of the same panel, so every 28-inch UHD monitor sold today is made from one of those.

This is the likely reason why Monoprice’s version isn’t significantly cheaper than the competition, though it does sell for less than most on a given day. It seems that the prices of these screens fluctuate like the stock market, so they take turns playing the role of best value choice. Still at $500, the CrystalPro is hard to beat at any time.
To refresh our memories, we’re talking about a 28-inch TN panel with 8-bit+FRC color depth, an sRGB gamut, five millisecond-rated response and 300 cd/m2 brightness. To this, Monoprice adds a slick aluminum bezel, four-source picture-by-picture, a fully adjustable stand and five video inputs.
Just from that description it seems pretty evident that Monoprice doesn't cut corners with the CrystalPro 4K. But how does it perform? As you’ll quickly see from our test results, it runs with the best in class and delivers the sharpest image to boot.
We realize that many users are waiting for an IPS solution at this price point. Truth be told, so are we. But the TN panel from Innolux has proven to be a good performer in other monitors, and the CrystalPro 4K appears to be no different. Let’s take a look.

    Review: iiyama ProLite XB3070WQS

    Introduction

The market for premium computer displays is gripped by a high-resolution fetishism of which the 4K standard at the forefront. In practice the UHD resolution, 3,840x2,160 pixels, is impractical for professional usage since most productivity applications fail to deal with scaling effectively, resulting in distorted or unreadable toolbars and UIs. In this instance professionals are more likely to make use of lower resolutions to strike up an optimal balance between screen size and resolution without the need for scaling.
The iiyama ProLite XB3070WQS we're testing today epitomises that balance with a large 30in panel sporting a WQXGA resolution, or 2,560x1,600. iiyama knows its target audience will be professionals in photography and videography, and the XB3070WQS boasts an impressive colour gamut to meet the needs of that audience - 146 per cent of sRGB, 109 per cent of Adobe RGB and 104 per cent of NTSC is a bold claim but a monitor that is tailored for colour-sensitive applications needs to be as highly capable as this.
Surprisingly, iiyama makes no claims about the colour accuracy of the display which is an important requirement for a professional audience. In colour-sensitive environments a Delta-E value close to 1 is ideal, anything above 2 doesn't cut the mustard, and values above 3 should only be found in affordable consumer panels. Testing will reveal just how capable this panel really is.
    Design and connectivity

The XB3070WQS makes use of an AH-IPS panel capable of a 5ms typical response time, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 178-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angles. iiyama has paid minimal attention to aesthetics - the monitor is as plain as they come with an all-black colour scheme and a thick plastic bezel, but the company does tick some boxes with physical tactile buttons rather than the fiddly touch buttons found on many other displays.

A large 30in monitor entails a heavy-duty stand to support its weight. The XB3070WQS has pivot, vertical tilt and height adjustment, although it cannot be tilted into portrait mode. There is a VESA mount at the back for users who'd rather wall-mount or install the display onto a monitor stand with more functionality.

The basic range of display connectivity is well-catered for with DisplayPort, VGA, DVI and HDMI plus a headphone jack and audio-in port for the integrated pair of 3W stereo speakers. A lack of a USB hub and additional display connectivity to enable picture-in-picture or picture-by-picture is a little disappointing for a monitor of this class.
