Here’s Three New FFXV Screenshots To Tide You Over

Square Enix just released to the press three new FFXV screenshots, which you can find below along with a small excerpt on the locations. Hopefully they’ll be enough to quench your thirst for a little while – at Gamescom 2015, Square Enix said that the game is 65% completed, but it also hinted via Director Hajime Tabata that Final Fantasy XV will be released “before 2017“.
The game is currently scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but in a recent interview Tabata mentioned that a PC version might be considered after the initial release on consoles. Considering that Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Type-O HD have been ported to Steam, there’s a good chance that this one will appear as well eventually.
What’s your current hype level for the new installment in the revered RPG series? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to check out the latest story trailer released for Gamescom 2015.

An underground dungeon with an eerie atmosphere.
For a long time, this dungeon has seen no traces of human activity.
But is there something else currently living here?

    Continent
The four continue their drive along the clear river, passing through the coniferous trees.
Should they go full speed straight toward their destination, or take time and explore the surroundings? It is up to players to choose.
    Restalm
Restalm, a city positioned in the lands of Duscae.
Using Cuba as a motif for the design, the vibrant city is full of people and life.
A large building that stands out is the hotel. It’s probably a good place to rest and relieve some tiredness from the long trip.

'Final Fantasy XV' Makes A Gamescom Appearance

Since the change of the game's title from Final Fantasy Versus XIII to Final Fantasy XV at E3 2013, we haven't seen or heard that much from Square Enix on the latest from its most beloved franchise. Compared to other big-budget titles, details are slim, with the game making a few select appearances throughout the year. One of those appearances this year was at Gamescom, with the release of two trailers showing off gameplay and a fraction of the storyline.
Unlike other trailers — for example, the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain demos — these were short clips, lasting less than four minutes. Gameplay footage showed the main character, Noctis, and his friends as they traversed a large forest area. They eventually encounter a swamp, which Noctis decides to explore. However, he's unaware that its home to the Malboro, a giant plant with tentacles. Battle ensues with the beast, but it eventually uses its Bad Breath attack, crippling most of the party, and killing Noctis as well.

Final Fantasy XV Malboro Gameplay At Gamescom
The Malboro has been one of the staples of the series, so its appearance is expected in the game. However, it seems that the purpose of the trailer was to give fans an idea of how the game will be presented when it comes out on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Then again, many visual changes are bound to occur between now and its eventual release date.
There was another clip titled "Dawn," which gave viewers another glimpse of the game's story. We see a city under some type of heavy military presence, with a long line in the vehicle checkpoint. However, it seems that there are more pressing matters at hand, as we cut to a father, King Regis of Lucis, holding his sleeping son, Noctis.
Regis is saddened, as he knows he has to leave his son soon. In front of him stands a large structure, and the mirage of three giants appears in the sky behind it as Regis prepares to leave his son behind, putting him next in line as heir to the family throne. Details are still slim as to the events that caused the separation between father and son, but hopefully we'll know more soon in the coming months.

Final Fantasy XV "Dawn" Gamescom Trailer
One thing that these trailers don't show is an actual release date for the game. The early foundations for the game started in 2006 under its original title, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Once again, the rumor mill churned during Gamescom, with reports saying that the game will come out next year. However, the game's director, Hajime Tabata, pointed out that while the game will not be out this year, he would not be too happy about the game being pushed to a release date in 2017. Interpret that as you will.
If you really want to get your hands on an early version of Final Fantasy XV, there's always the Episode Duscae demo that comes with the first-print versions of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. For now, the waiting game continues.

FFXV Will Get More Fantastic During The Game; Team Is Trying Hard To Add Airships

Final Fantasy XV (FFXV for short) has been more or less confirmed to launch in 2016, but there are still many unknown elements to it.
A lenghty interview conducted during Gamescom by fansites Finaland, Final Fantasy World and Final Fantasy Dream sheds some light on certain topics. For instance, quite a few gamers had expressed their worry about realistic elements being prevalent in FFXV, but Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata explained that the game will get more fantastic as the plot unfolds.
To reassure you, the construction of the game and the way the areas differ throughout the game starts out as a world very much based on reality. It feels more solid and more grounded in reality. As the game progresses, you will certainly more fantastic, otherworldly kind of elements. You will see these different tastes, this kind of magical and superb ideas that you see in previous Final Fantasy games will be seen close to the end of the game. It’s all in there.
Tabata also reiterated that Square Enix is trying very hard to add airships in the game, while underwater battles are very low right now in their development priority.

There is a difference in how important these two features you mentioned are. To start with airships, we are still trying very hard to get them in the final game… if we can. Ideally, if we had enough time and resources for the development, we would spend that time working out the technology to get airships into the game, making sure it all fits in and polishing it to the level it needs to be. We still may achieve that, because we really want to, but if we can’t, we need a back-up plan, because unfortunately we don’t have unlimited amount of time and money to do this game. When we changed over the project, we decided that we can’t keep people waiting beyond 2016. We have to get the game out in the best possible state it can be at that time within the budget we’ve set. If we can’t get it into the game at that point, we think the best option is to add it after rather than just give up on it. I made this announcement to let people know that we understand Final Fantasy fans love airships and that, if we can’t get them into the game in the form they need to be, then it is better to have them later in the right form rather than force them in an incomplete form that would be unsatisfactory.
Compared to that, underwater battles are quite low among our development priorities because they are not so necessary for the game to be what it should be, and because some elements are much more important to include. In terms of priorities, even more important than having airships or underwater battles to me, the real core of FFXV is that it should be a game which has the high level of technology to support the ultimate story experience. This is what we are prioritizing in the development of the game.
If we made the decision to not include the airships in the final game, we maybe wouldn’t need to go through these discussions and try and get that technology. But the reason why we pushing ahead to try and close the discussions to get that is because there are a lot of people like you out there who want to see airships in the game. We are trying to get them in in any way possible that we can.
FFXV team also enlisted the help of Avalanche Studios (who is working with Square Enix to publish Just Cause 3), as their technology could aid with the implementation of airships. Would you be disappointed if they didn’t make it into the final game?

    Final Fantasy Launching Same-Day Worldwide

Final Fantasy fans are going to get to play the latest game in the RPG series in unison, no matter where they live. In an interview with Gamespot director Hajime Tabata confirmed the game will get a simultaneous launch worldwide.

Previous Final Fantasy games have always released in Japan before other territories with several months between their release in Japan and hitting stores in other regions.

During the interview Tabata admitted it was the first time they'd tried a global launch "This may be something that we are little bit embarrassed to talk about, but really, this is the first time that we've done a packaged, standalone Final Fantasy game with a simultaneous global launch"

It's giving the team new challenges: "We didn't have the setup to deal with that, really. The first thing we had to do was rearrange our internal structure to create something that could do that. That was the first important work on the project."

Final Fantasy 15 was first announced at E3 2006, over 9 years ago. A recent beta was well received. Committing to a global launch means that Square Enix are going to have to push through extensive localisation while still developing the game. While this is likely to be a struggle on such a word-heavy JRPG, the change is bound to win it some plaudits.

Not to mention it'll cut back on spoilers.

Final Fantasy 15 is to release worldwide on PS4 and Xbox One sometime in 2016.

Final Fantasy 15 almost had VR support

Final Fantasy 15 has seen lots of transitions during its storied development, including an experimental phase centered around immersive VR experiences.

Instead of forcing gamers to strap on an Oculus Rift for hours on end, Square Enix toyed with the idea of using VR for certain sections of the game in order to immerse players into the overall experience. "We had tested out utilizing VR," Square Enix's Hajime Tabata told IGN at PAX 2015. "At the time we were looking into it, we felt that it could potentially work as a passive experience for a portion of the game utilizing VR."

In the end, the devs decided that VR just wasn't a good fit for their action-based RPG--especially with that finicky targeting camera which would induce dizzying motion sickness."We felt that it would potentially make sense for a segment, but in terms of the overall game in itself, the entire game, we didn't feel that having that headset on for the entirety of the game and that experience would match what we were aiming for with XV. It's a very long game [and] you'd wear that headset for hours."

Maybe one day we'll see some of the game's VR prototypes, but for now we can only guess as to what the studio had up their sleeves. Wearing an HMD for combat probably would be quite jarring (again with the floating camera) but an optional non-combat exploration mode would be amazing.

The Episode Duscae demo alone showcased the astounding flora and fauna that the kingdom of Lucis has to offer. VR immersion could work wonders with cinematic cutscenes as well and give players a more intimate experience of the game's story and characters.

However, splitting the game up for the sake of VR would be counter-intuitive to Square Enix's vision. Final Fantasy 15 has a seamless, natural flow that gracefully transitions from beautiful exploration to fully-fledged combat at any turn. So when we add the discomfort and weariness of prolonged VR exposure to carving up the game's open-world scope, it's easy to see why the devs opted to nix VR support. Hopefully one day we can comfortably play long RPG sessions in virtual reality, but that probably won't happen anytime soon.

Tabata also revealed that Final Fantasy 15's release date will be unveiled during a special event in March 2016.

Here’s what it’s like to drive in Final Fantasy XV

Square’s recent announcement of a Final Fantasy VII HD remastering might have players pumped for a bit of airship travel once again, but that’s not how you’ll get about in Final Fantasy XV. In a new trailer for the game shown off at PAX, we saw how players will instead cruise along highways in a sweet looking car, hairmetal hair blowing in the wind.

There’s a choice of driving style too, where players can take the wheel themselves if they prefer to be in control of the experience, or sit back and let one of their companion characters take over, giving players the chance to chat to other characters and take in the scenery. It’s not an entirely passive experience though, as gamers can stop the car whenever and wherever they want, getting out to view the surroundings or find something to battle.

Another trailer released during the show, gives fans of the series a progress report of sorts on how different aspects of the game are coming together. Everything from attack animations, to companion AI pathfinding are covered. As a Monster Hunter fan, I must admit, I got rather excited to see the player character sever a giant monster’s horn.

Final Fantasy XV is set for release sometime in 2016, with a “special event,” and announcement of a final release coming in March.

'Final Fantasy XV' Shows New Driving Footage, Announces 2016 Release Window At PAX Prime

After making an appearance at Gamescom, the Final Fantasy XV team traveled to Seattle to hold a special session of its Active Time Report show at PAX Prime. The two speakers were the game's director, Hajime Tabata, and the marketing manager, Akio Ofuji. Aside from updating fans on the development process, both men also talked about the game's release date and showed new gameplay footage.
    Arriving Soon

One of the initial topics during the discussion was about Tabata's comments at Gamescom regarding the game's release date. Rumors surfaced at the show, claiming the game was set for release next year. Tabata neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, only saying that he would not be pleased if the game arrived in 2017.
At PAX Prime, he clarified his comments, saying that he only said it to address concerns, adding that the heads of Square Enix were not happy, to say the least, that he said anything about the release date at all.
In less than a month, the company seems to have reversed its mood about the release date statement, and although specifics were left out, Tabata confirmed that the game will be available some time in 2016.
More details are bound to appear in the coming months, specifically during the Tokyo Game Show, as well as other announcements in the winter. The exact release date, however, won't be revealed until a special event slated for March 2016. This allows the team to coordinate its collaboration efforts as well as to continue to improve the game.
    Progress Report

During development, it's uncommon for developers to reveal the intricacies of the overall progress. Still, this didn't stop Tabata from showing fans various portions of the game that still need work from the team. With the help of a few video clips, he showed the status of a few parts of the game in progress, such as making the fire effects more realistic, enabling party members to follow the protagonist (Noctis) when he climbs a ladder, and fine-tuning combat gameplay.
There was also a series of concept artwork that was shown at Gamescom, but fans watching the livestream a few weeks ago couldn't see it due to technical difficulties. Tabata and Ofuji also made a point to show the artwork as well as a few comparisons to the final product in-game -- which was nearly identical, with the only difference being changes to lighting and enhanced details.
    The Open Road

The focus of the new, revealed gameplay was the Regalia, the car frequently used by Noctis and his friends throughout the story. Previously owned by Noctis's father, King Regis, Tabata highlighted a few features of the game's driving aspect.
The player can choose from one of two modes of travel with the Regalia, auto or manual. Auto puts one of Noctis's friends as the driver, leaving the player, as Noctis, to sit in the back seat and just admire the scenery. Manual implies that Noctis will take over the wheel and drive the team. Both modes allow Noctis the ability to get out at anytime, putting a stop to the trip to explore areas, restock supplies or fight enemies in the vicinity.
While the car is moving, players can choose from one of four views -- driver, joyride, tail and scenic -- to see the characters and the world around them. Tabata added that the car is obviously fueled by gasoline, and players need to be mindful about it during the game as it can run out, forcing players to get out and push the car to a safe location while searching for more fuel.
    Next On Agenda

With March 2016 firmly set as the release date reveal, Tabata and the rest of the development team will continue to talk more about various aspects of the game in the coming months. Fortunately, we know that the next Active Time Report show will be at the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks. Tabata will talk about another character, Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, as well as the game's fishing activity and the ever-popular creature known as the "chocobo."

No Trade-Offs To Include Moogles in Final Fantasy XV; Will Be A Fun Little Extra

Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata has responded to the amazing amount of response the team received, following the possible inclusion of Moogles in Final Fantasy XV.

Last week a poll was created, to include Moogles in the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. The developer on the game already responded that they can’t guarantee that Moogles will be included in the final game, but promised that the team will see what they can do to include the fantasy creatures in the game.
The developer later teased that, the more followers and votes, the more leverage to include Moogles in the game.

A few minutes ago, Tabata took to twitter to share the an update on the status of the Moogle in the highly anticipated RPG.

Final Fantasy XV Pre-Beta Already Runs Fully on PC

Square Enix seem to be making a habit of porting games from their Final Fantasy RPG series to the PC. The more recent Final Fantasy XIII series of games are already available on Steam, and PC ports of many of the older games from their console homes mean that almost all of the epic franchise is now open to PC gamers. PC owning Final Fantasy fans will be pleased to hear that Final Fantasy XV programmer Satoshi Kitade announced on the official Square Enix forums that the pre-beta build of Final Fantasy XV runs on the PC and is fully playable in its entirety.
Now, this doesn’t mean that Final Fantasy XV has been confirmed for a PC release yet, it certainly puts it on the cards for the future, if Square Enix is already putting in the effort to make such an early version of the game run well on PC. It will hardly be surprising if we see a PC release of XV announced following its console release.
The real question then, is time. It took them 5 years to bring the original FFXIII to the PC (albeit poorly optimized), but only 2 for its sequels, XIII-2 and Lightning Returns. With XV already running on PC before its console release, it could be as short as months after console release that XV is available for PC. Who knows, maybe FFXVI, whenever it happens, will have a simultaneous release across all platforms.

Final Fantasy XV Director Assures 2016 Release In New Year’s Letter

Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata has posted a New Year’s letter in which he wishes everyone a happy new year, and reconfirms that Final Fantasy XV will finally be releasing in 2016.

Final Fantasy XV has been in development for several years. The RPG, originally named Final Fantasy Versus VIII, was announced by Square Enix back in 2013. To celebrate the announcement back then, Square Enix released an E3 2013 announcement trailer , which can be seen below.

The armed forces of Niflheim launch a devastating assault upon the Kingdom of Lucis, casting Crown Prince Noctis and his comrades out of their homes and into the fray. The engaging tale to follow draws audiences into an awe-inspiring world steeped in the rich storytelling traditions of SQUARE ENIX’s renowned First Production Development Team.
Fans of the series have been eagerly waiting for a release date since then, but Square Enix has only revealed that the game will be releasing somewhere in 2016.Development on the RPG has been slow, and many fans don’t expect the series to be actually released in 2016. A 2016 release frame was announced at PAX Prime in August 2015.
“We’re proud of our technical capabilities and the work we’ve done to help shape the open-world genre,” said Sundberg. “We hold the FINAL FANTASY franchise, and the team working on it, in such high regard and are excited to be a part of the next chapter”, said Chief Creative Officer Christofer Sundberg, during the event.
Alongside the announcement, a ‘driving’ gameplay for the game was released by Square Enix.

Although some might not believe a 2016 release any longer, Final Fantasy XV director Tabata has reconfirmed a 2016 release today. In his New Year’s letter, Tabata writes that the final phase of development, will “focus on effort and willpower”.

    Happy New Year!
We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016! In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.
I vow to you all that every member in the team will do their best to the very last possible moment taking responsibility and pride in their craft.
We will do everything we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure.
The whole FFXV team appreciates all of the support from each and everyone one of you this past year.
I cannot tell you how much it means to all of us.
We’d like to celebrate a wonderful New Year and as we approach the release of FFXV, I’d like to enjoy that moment with you all.
    Director of FFXV Hajime Tabata

Alongside his New Year’s letter, Tabata released a great looking visual for Final Fantasy XV to wish everyone the best in 2016.

Final Fantasy XV To Feature Exciting Aerial Battles With Flying Foes, Battle Modes System Detailed

Final Fantasy XV is now very close to release and Square Enix is getting ready for the big event focused on the game coming in two months. The preparations for the event aren’t preventing members of the team from sharing some new details on the highly anticipated role playing game.

Earlier today on the Final Fantasy XV Official Forums, a few fans’ questions have been answered by members of the team. The first question was about Warp Points, one of the Final Fantasy XV’s most interesting features. A fan has asked about multiple Warp Points in larger buildings and Lead Level Designer Terada Takefumi confirmed that players will be able to use multiple warp points in a strategic manner. Mr. Takefumi has also confirmed that the game will include exciting aerial battles with flying foes and gigantic boss enemies.
    Why of course they will!
The warp ability that lets you teleport instantly to high up locations is a vital part of FFXV’s battle system. The ability to use multiple warp points in a strategic manner is especially prevalent in the game’s large scale battles over urban terrain. It is not just the buildings though, and we have also created exciting aerial battles with flying foes and gigantic boss enemies, so watch out for those.

The second question was about the Final Fantasy XV difficulty modes. Lead Game Designer Takizawa Masashi has revealed that Final Fantasy XV will feature a system where players can switch between different battle modes so that it will be possible for all players to enjoy the game. This switching system is a key part of the game that the team decided to introduce after receiving feedback from the Episode Duscae demo.
The equivalent to difficulty level settings in FFXV is a system where you can switch between different battle modes. By having this ability to switch modes, we want to make it so that both players who like action oriented, technical gameplay and also those who want to fight at a slower, more relaxed pace can all enjoy the combat in their own style. This switching system is a key part of the gameplay that we decided to introduce based on the feedback we received from the Episode Duscae demo. We will go into more detail about the system closer to the game’s launch so stay tuned for more information.

The third and final question was about big cities like Altissia and Insomnia. A fan asked about how much of these cities will be explorable and planner Ishikawa Tomori revealed that the city of Altissia will sport many and varied locations such as multiple cafes, parks and more. The players will be able to walk around the complex maze of streets or even ride the gondola to see the sights.
I can tell everyone a little about Altissia at this time.
Altissia has many and varied locations, such as multiple cafes, ship-bourne market places and parks etc. The city is of a considerable scale, to the extent that even the developers sometimes get lost there!
The player is free to take a leisurely walk around the complex maze of streets, or ride the gondola to see the sights and there is also added enjoyment to be had looking for restaurants to visit!
You are bound to encounter some unique characters when exploring the city streets.
So we have created lots of different things to enjoy in Altissia and hope everyone is looking forward to visiting!
    Respondent: Planner Ishikawa Tomonori
Final Fantasy XV will be released this year on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
