ShareOn Enables Large File Sharing In Seconds For iOS, Android, Mac And Windows

Enormous file size is a drastic opportunity cost that we consumers face with the advancement of technology. No doubt we’re privileged to benefit from better image quality and sound in music but sometimes sharing these files become tough. Sharing heavy and large files take ages to share and sometimes it is even impossible to do so, for instance try sending a file above 25MB on Gmail. The results will be cumbersome yet annoying. Even though you can share these files on a cloud based storage system but that would likewise take hours.

What if we told you that large files can be shared with friends and colleagues with the blink of an eye? Yes! ShareOn enables you to send and share large heavy files in just seconds. Different from the cloud service, ShareOn enables you to either download or stream from the direct connection between devices. This app is really handy if you want to share sound clips or videos with someone you know. Above this, ShareOn is available n all major platforms like Windows or Mac and iOS and Android. With such diversity in platforms, sharing large files is not a problem for ShareOn App.
ShareOn Enables You To Send Large Files On Multiple-Platform

We’re here to give you a short tutorial to apply the large file sharing mechanism. Start by logging in through either your Facebook or Google+ account. If you don’t have any, you can always make one by putting in the email ID. Then you must create a password for your ShareOn account. Once you’re done with making an account you can discover your library consisting music videos and picture as well as checking received and sent files from the icons at the bottom of the application.

Do note that both parties should have ShareOn installed on their devices to enable sharing. The files can be shared at the same time with three people having ShareOn. I myself tried sharing an entire movie from my Android device to iOS and to be honest, I’m thoroughly impressed. I was that impressed that I even tried sending my complete 5GB collection and Im glad to report that it took no more than a few seconds.

Google tightens up security on Android app submissions

As many of you already know, Google’s Android app marketplace has its fair share of malicious apps. The company has never been quite as strict as Apple on which apps it allows on to Google Play according to many, but the company is now starting to crack down.
In fact, Google revealed recently that its new system has been in place for the past two months or so, including a series of new security measures in place for app submissions. Google has put additional algorithms to work hoping to catch bad software, as well as assigning a team of internal reviewers to analyze incoming content. It sounds as though human employees will be going hands on with apps before they go live as well.
On top of that, Google has also introduced a new rating system that it hopes will allow developers to more appropriately target users as well as help parents. In partnership with a number of ratings standards groups from various countries, Google will take into consideration things like sexual/violent content, gambling apps, and more. Developers will be forced to fill out ratings questionnaires in order to make apps available in countries that are not yet supported, with apps being given basic age ratings in those cases.
While it certainly won’t clean up the malware on Google Play completely, it sounds as though it is a step towards making its marketplace a more reliable place for Android apps.

Google Play now uses PEGI ratings for apps

The Google Play store is going to begin using the PEGI rating system for its games in Europe, it has been announced. This comes as part of a coalition between PEGI and other age rating systems across the world, known as the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC).
The group of rating board will now let game developers and publishers secure an age rating for their game with a single questionnaire, simplifying the whole process.

Publishers and developers that use this new scheme can do so for free, according to UKIE:
“We are pleased to see major mobile platforms adopting the new IARC system, making it easy and, importantly, free for businesses that publish games to get age ratings across a number of major games markets”.
“Having PEGI ratings on more mobile platforms across Europe also means that we have a more consistent and clear rating process to help consumers understand which games are appropriate for all ages.”
The IARC is made up of five rating organizations, including PEGI, ESRB, Classlnd, USK and the Australian Classification Board.
Google Play is one of the first digital stores to adopt the new rating process. Xbox Live, the PSN Store and Nintendo’s eShop are all expected to follow suit sometime in the future.

    WhatsApp starts to talk

Everyone's talking at me, can't hear a world they are saying...

WhatsApp has commenced rollout of its voice calling feature to all users on Android.

The feature is automatically enabled to all users updating to version 2.12.5 of WhatsApp via the Play Store, which brings a revamped user interface sporting three tabs: Calls, Chats and Contacts.
All you have to do is tap the dialler icon that is available in-chat, or heading to the Calls tab and selecting a contact you wish to call. Both parties need to be on the latest version of the app for the voice calling feature to work.
The call function turns WhatsApp into a Skype without pictures, although it still cannot call landlines yet and you have to pay for it. Or at least I am supposed to but haven't yet.

Gmail for Android updates with new 'All Inboxes' option

Google has released an updated version of Gmail for Android that includes a new "All Inboxes" option which does exactly what it sounds like; offers all of your inboxes in one spot.

Even if you have inboxes from Outlook or Yahoo, Gmail for Android will display them, and you'll be able to read and reply to each e-mail, without swapping tabs or logging out. The Mountain View-based search giant has also teased that e-mail threads from external accounts will now be displayed with the same threaded conversation format that internal Gmail e-mails use.

The new integrated accounts will also make use of the improved autocomplete function, larger attachment previews and one-touch saves to your Google Drive account.

Apparently Google cut Android malware in half last year

Google began cracking down on Android malware pretty heavily last year and it seems to have paid off as apparently, Google has managed to cut the amount of malware hitting its mobile OS down by half. Additionally, Google also says that only 1 per cent of Android devices managed to have a bad application install during 2014.
When users were smart and only installed apps from the Google Play Store, only 0.15 per cent of devices ended up with a bad app. In order to combat this, Google recently tightened its belt and started up an app approval process, which will manually review apps before they are allowed on to the Play Store, much like what Apple does with its own store on iOS.

For those who want even more detail, Google has released a 44 page long report, going over everything from SMS abuse to ransomware and adware. Adrian Ludwig, the lead engineer for Android security had this to say:
“We thought it was really important to put as much data as we could out there. I kind of apologize for the fact that it’s 40-some pages, but hopefully next year it will be 150 pages and we’ll get even more data.”

Google Admits it is Scanning Android Phones For “The Right Reasons”

    7 Flares Twitter 1 Facebook 6 Google+ 0 LinkedIn 0
    inShare
StumbleUpon 0 Pin It Share 0 Reddit 0 Email -- Email to a friend Filament.io

You may not be shocked that the search engine giant, Google, is scanning every single app on your phone, even if you downloaded it from third-parties and not from the Google Store. But is it really doing it for ‘the right reason’?
Google has confirmed in a security report that it is tracking applications through their Verify Apps feature. This system is said to ensure that Potentially Harmful Applications don’t find their way into your Android phones.
“Google’s systems use machine learning to see patterns and make connections that humans would not,” Google explained. “Google Play analyzes millions of data points, asset nodes, and relationship graphs to build a high-precision security-detection system.”
While Verify Apps has been active for a few years now, Google added the Safety Net feature in 2014, granting it the ability to scan and collect data from all apps on your phone. Google stated that full device scans run once a week and by the end of 2014, over 200 million devices were being scanned every day.
In terms of what is actually being collected from your phone and apps, Google stated that it “only collects data needed to provide and improve device security”. While the company claims it is not collecting sensitive data, should you feel like you do not want to be tracked, you can turn off the feature by navigating to the Settings->Security section and disabling the “Scan device for security threats” feature.
Thank you BGR for providing us with this information

'Trusted Voice' Authentication Coming To Android Through Play Services Update

Google launched a feature called "Smart Lock" in Android 5.0 that allows the smartphone to be paired with nearby devices (such as laptops, smartwatches, and so on) through NFC or Bluetooth, and then stay unlocked for as long as the connection is maintained.
This way, when your smartphone or laptop is on you and you have a smartwatch, you can use your device instantly without having to enter its PIN or pattern anymore. This feature can't be used for all situations (you might want to keep the phone locked at the airport, for example), so Google is now offering yet another smartphone locking feature called "Trusted Voice."
As you can already imagine from the name, this feature is about allowing smartphone owners to unlock their devices with a voice command. Presumably, the feature is a little more advanced than simply listening to the words being said; it will actually analyze voice patterns.
Either way, ironically, it seems that even Google doesn't trust Trusted Voice to be very secure. It warned users that someone else could be unlocking their devices if they have a recording of the user's voice, or even a similar voice. This is why voice is likely the least secure method of biometric authentication among fingerprint, face, iris and heartbeat recognition. It's just too easy these days for someone else to record your voice.
If Google has made it advanced enough so at least the people around you can't unlock your phone just by hearing you say the command, then it could be more secure than simply "sliding to unlock," but almost as convenient.
Face Unlock, another authentication feature in Android that was added a few versions back and has improved significantly since then, could be a good alternative to Trusted Voice. It is perhaps slightly more secure, and even more convenient, because you only have to look at your phone for a second or two to make it work.
However, in some cases Trusted Voice could be even more secure than face or fingerprint recognition. For instance, someone could physically force you to unlock your device with your face, iris or fingerprint, but they can't do that as easily if you need a PIN, passphrase, pattern or even a voice command.

The rollout of Trusted Voice has just begun as an update to the Play Services framework, so it might not arrive to all users at the same time.

Google wants developers to make apps for younger audiences

Google wants Android developers to start making apps that would suit a younger audience in order to keep up with Amazon. Amazon might not have the biggest selection of apps in the world but it does have a FireHD Kids Edition, which is aimed at children and also guaranteed a replacement should your device break within two years.
Google doesn’t offer anything like that for younger audiences at present. However, the company wants to change that by implementing software features that will allow parents to quickly find age appropriate apps and avoid those nasty bills for micro-transactions.

Google’s new program is called “Designed for Families”, it permits developers to designate their apps and games as ‘family-friendly’, Google Play will also display age ratings for apps on its store, which should also help.
In order to gain Google’s family friendly seal of approval, apps must meet “stringent legal and policy bar and pass a specialized operations review”, according to a Google spokesperson speaking with The Verge.
These changes aren’t available just yet but consumers will learn more about Google’s future plans over the next few weeks. Hopefully upcoming features will include better parental controls so that parents can set their devices up for children and not have to worry about any surprise bills or dodgy content.

    Google Launches Family Friendly Store

Worried about your child getting a copy of Call Of Duty: Black Ops Zombies for their Android device? Our Advice, don’t be.
The reason we say this is because Google are launching their family friendly version of the Play Store in a few weeks. To fill the freshly available section, Google are inviting current application developers to join the program and create apps to meet Google’s idea of Child safe experiences.
Google have released a list of requirements and advert policies that you need to comply to as a developer before they will allow you to publish the app in the new store.
    These rules include:

    • Apps must be rated ESRB for everyone over 10 years of age
    • Apps must comply with laws concerning advertising to children
    • No violent content for children under 13

Sounds like Google are getting pretty serious about making the Play store and phones a safe place for children. You can see all their rules and guidelines here
The launch of the new store will go well with the new user profiles feature in Android Lollipop. You’ll be able to create a profile for your child so you can stop them seeing your information, yet allow them to have a child safe experience with Apps and adverts whilst using the device.

Finally you can Google your Android phone

Tells you where you left it

Google will let you use the search engine on your desktop computer to find your lost phone.

The idea is that if you install the latest version of its main Android app you can type in "find my phone" and let Google find it for you.
If your phone is nearby, Google can ring it for you. If it's further away, Google will show you it on a map.
Google introduced a tool called Android Device Manager in August 2013. The website and app can find lost phones and tablets (running Android 2.2 Froyo and above) by ringing them or showing them on a map.
If your device cannot be found or retrieved, Android Device Manager also lets you securely erase all of the data on your device. This ensures your data doesn't end up in the wrong hands.
There are a couple of things which bother us about this app. Firstly if you can find out where your phone is, then so can spooks, private investigators, jealous spouses, or US drones. All the hacker has to do is attack whatever security the system has on it.
At this point it is not clear what protection your phone has against these outside threats. But perhaps the biggest threat is from Google.
If Google knows where your phone is, the temptation for them to flog you location based advertising is going to be too much.

Apple’s New Macbook Is Almost Impossible to Fix Yourself

Google has released a new keyboard meant for handwriting called Google Handwriting Input.
The App works on any Android device running version 4.0.3 (Ice cream Sandwich) and above. The keyboard supports input in a whopping 82 languages. Simplifying the job of having multiple google keyboards for each language.
The keyboard can recognize emojiis by drawing them, is useful for languages that may be challenging to type on a conventional android keyboard and may work even if your handwriting is shocking!
Once you have installed the new keyboard from the play store you can see it looks the same as the old android keyboard. If you wish to write something rather than type it. The app recognizes input from both a finger and a stylus if you have one.
I’ve installed it on my Sony Xperia and used my fat fingers to have a play around and it works pretty well, what seems to me as an illegible scrawl is understandable by the app. Since release the App has been downloaded over 5000 times. You can download the app from here
Google clearly have put a lot of thought and development into this app. It’s going to be interesting to see what they come up with next.

Android for Work is no longer Lollipop-only, standalone app shows up on Google Play

Previously available as a built-in feature of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google has released Android for Work as a standalone app on the Play Store. The app extends beyond the platform’s existing support for multiple accounts by allowing you to more efficiently separate work and personal content, and offering control for admins without interfering with your personal settings.
With the app installed, IT administrators will be able to manage and isolate work apps, and even if you have the same app for personal use, data is securely kept separate from one another. While it uses Android's multi-user framework to securely separate work and personal profiles, there is no switching users. Everything lives on a single, unified interface, and users can easily launch either app without having to worry about content carrying over or mixing in.

Users can run secure, managed versions of Google’s Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Camera, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chrome as well as third party work tools like Exchange and Notes. As with Android for Work on Lollipop, your company will need to set everything up using one of the partner mobile device management solutions from BlackBerry, Samsung, VMWare and others.
Android for Work still in its early days and is only meant for devices running Android 4.0 or above. The app should help Google and Android OEMs better compete in the enterprise space where Apple is apparently well ahead. According to Good Technology (via ZDNet), during the third quarter of 2014, iOS represented 69% of devices in the enterprise while Android accounted for 29%.
