Transfer Computer Files To Your Smartphone With Pushbullet’s ‘Portal’ App

Its been long since the provision of cross platform file transfer services have made their way to mobile and computers. Pushbullet has been providing such services for quite a while for business as well as home use. Most of us use Pushbullet as part of our daily routine to move data from one device t another and yes, the service has been a source of great help.

Pushbullet has released an all new application ‘Portal’, that reduces the effort to transfer files across different platforms. The methodology involves a simple Wi-Fi connection that aids in the transfer of data from your computer to any other Pushbullet supported device, either a smartphone or a tablet. There have been an ease to access and transfer files with Portal which is a light yet very powerful tool considering home network or business use.
The Fastest Way To Transfer Files From Computer to Smart Devices – Portal

Portal involves enhanced security measures as it requires a QR code to be scanned and only then your file can be shared on your other device. Since it uses a local LAN connection. The procedure is really simple to transfer files across different devices. All you need to do is open your Portal application and the Portal website on your computer. Over there you will be asked to scan a QR code. Once you do that, you can drag and drop files to be transferred to another device. Instantaneously, your files will be moved to the directed device.

Portal has an immense scope in the market for various fields. However, the app feels short of a feature which would have been cool. The ability to transfer files both ways has been denied which means you cannot send files from your smartphone or tablet to your computer. Although, the Portal team did say that they are open to any sort of experimentation and demand oriented features.
In the near future, the Portal app can be integrated into other PC software to expand its span of control and widen the likely utility features. Its a very useful app that incorporates in to enumerable fields. Due to its ease of use and very fast file transfer time, Portal will definitely play a part in its users work habits. If you liked the app, Portal is now available on the Google Play Store but does not support iOS for the time being. As for now, let us know if you think Portal is any helpful for you.

Samsung's latest app lets you record mobile gameplay with ease

Recording and sharing gameplay from a console or PC is immensely popular and relatively easy to pull off. Doing the same with a mobile game? Sure, it’s possible, but many apps require you to root your device while others look sketchy at best and cause games to run poorly.
Samsung is now trying its hand at mobile game recording with a new Android app called Game Recorder+.
The app allows players to record clips in 1080p quality and can also capture face-cam commentary using your device’s front-facing camera and microphones. On the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, it can even record game audio directly from the source.
Game Recorder+ also includes a feature called “Game Boost” that optimizes the system memory for the best gaming and recording experience. Touch interactions can be recorded as well should you want to share exactly how you toppled a boss or solved a particularly tricky puzzle.
Once a clip has been captured, users can edit it on the spot and upload directly to YouTube. Those in countries without access to YouTube can save gameplay videos locally and upload them manually to the sharing site of their choice.
The only catch is that it only works on the following Samsung devices: Galaxy Note 2 or newer or a Galaxy S4 or newer running Android 4.1 or later. If you meet the criteria and want to try it yourself, head over to the Google Play store or the Galaxy App store to download it free of charge.

Samsung Flow Enters Beta to Take on Apple Continuity

One of the best features of iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite for Apple fans is Continuity, a feature that effortlessly connects Apple phones, tablets and computers. For Android users on Samsung phones, that gap may be about to close. Samsung Flow, which transfers content easily between Samsung phones and tablets, is now available on the Google Play store in beta form.
Android aficionados who own a Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Note 4, Note Edge or Galaxy Tab S can now download the program from the Google Play Store. Right now, the program's abilities are modest: either Transfer an activity to another device, or Defer it for later.
Transferring an activity is what it sounds like. For example, if you're watching a movie on your phone, you can select Transfer and pick it up immediately on your tablet. Go to an app's options menu, choose Transfer, and the content will show up right away on whichever compatible Samsung device you choose.
MORE: Best Smartphones on the Market Now
Defer appears to be the more useful of the two options. Using the example of watching a movie again, say that you have something on your smartphone during your after-work commute. As your commute ends, you can select Defer and pick it up right where you left off on your tablet once you arrive back home. Defer also works through an app's options menu.
As Samsung Flow is still in beta, user reviews have been mixed. It apparently doesn't always work as advertised, and its functionality is limited. Transfer and Defer can be useful, but it doesn't quite rival the full feature suite of Apple Continuity. Still, a new program has to start somewhere, and Samsung enthusiasts can try it out for themselves.

Here’s How You Can Share Your Android App Purchases With Family And Friends

From an official standpoint, Android users cannot share their purchased applications like Apple’s Family Sharing which was debuted last year. The purpose of family sharing is to allow a single app purchase to work with other accounts, either your own device or someone else’. Hence, Android users have to work another way to access purchased apps on multiple accounts.

In a simple manner, the workout procedure is fairly simple. To be able to share your app purchases on multiple android devices, you have to add your account to the other device. Other technical details will be covered later in this post but this sure would be a great way to share your app purchases with family and or friends.
Share Your App Purchases On Android With These Steps

As to begin the act to enable purchased apps sharing, you will first need to borrow the android device of your family member or friend. The next step involves navigating to the android device’s Settings menu and then the Accounts Tab. In the Accounts Tab, tap Add Account. The account type must be set to Google and then enter your own account details here to log in. However, if you have two way authentication enabled, check your own device for the authentication code.

The next step involves securing your private email address that you used on the other person’s device so no one can see it. To do this, navigate back to the Accounts tab in Settings and select Google then from the list, select your own account that you just made. The point here is to deselect any syncing option that may cause the data to be transferred to your family member’s device.

As soon as you do this, head to Google Play Store and open the side menu bar. From this menu bar, tap the account of your family member atop the page. Proceeding further, you are advised to select your own account from this menu. And there you have it. You have completed the procedure to host purchased applications for your family members or friends.

From this point forward, the My Apps segment will show all the apps that have been downloaded. Now your friend or family member can install any device that you have paid for. If you want more accounts to be a part of the sharing, follow the exact same steps on another device and increase the circle. That to it, folks. Let us know in the comments if this guide helped you.

Intel releases Android app for remotely controlling your PC

Without much fanfare, Intel has launched a new app for Android called Remote Keyboard that allows you to remotely control any PC with your smartphone using an on-screen keyboard and mouse.
The app is designed to be used with small form factor PCs, such as Intel's Compute Stick, that either don't come with included peripherals, or don't effectively support keyboard and mouse control. For example, you could use the Remote Keyboard app to control a hidden living room PC that's connected to your TV.
However the app isn't limited to small form factor devices: you can install its companion software on any PC running Windows 7 or newer. When the software is installed and connected to your Wi-Fi network, the app will automatically detect your PC so that connection becomes easy.
The Remote Keyboard app comes with an on-screen QWERTY keyboard with buttons for Control, Alt, Shift, Delete and Windows, while the empty space above the keyboard acts as a trackpad. On the right, Intel has included a scroll bar so you can also efficiently use many Windows applications.
Currently, the app is only available for Android, and there's no word on whether Intel will release it on other platforms. For those of you that do have an Android device, you can grab Remote Keyboard from the Google Play Store right now, for free.

Google’s Material Design Finally Makes Its Ways To Dropbox For Android

Before the Android M, Google’s major upgrade to its Android was Lollipop which brought with it a handful of changes from an overall layout overhaul to enhancements in functionality and performance. Many developers have adopted the Android Lollipop’s Material Design language in their apps according to guidelines from Google itself. However, many applications are still to translate their apps accordingly.

Dropbox has been missing out on Material Design for a long time. Since the stock android language is still to last another year, it was advantageous for the company to pour in some Material Design in their Dropbox app. Better late than never, Dropbox has its newest version released, 3.0.0. This is what this post will be focusing later on, about the changes made in the update, either visual or under the hood improvements.

Dropbox Update Limited To Visual material Design Changes

Material Design is the design language of Android’s latest operating system, Lollipop. Material Design has completely changed the visuals of user interface of application as well as the handling system. The design language alters or relocate action buttons which has become a thing for many of the Material Design applications. However, when we talk about Dropbox’s debut to Material Design, the visual changes are numbered while on the other hand, it does not include an increase in stringed features as compared to the previous version. The update 3.0.0 of Dropbox only focuses on the visual behavior of the application.

The Dropbox has a dedicated cloud storage purpose and it fulfills it substantially greater than any other application for some users. Now, coming back to the visuals, Material Design looks offer an afloat or hovering action button on the bottom right side of the application. Along with this, the update includes a prominent menu button that slides out and provides an elegant feel to the eyes. As that, the color of the status bar also changed just like other Material Design applications. In this case, the status bar color has been changed to give a dark blue shaded color.
As mentioned before, the application did not get any feature enhanced update, yet the visuals have been altered. However, the forthcoming updates may provide additional features drenched in the same Material Design look. That’s all for the update on Material Design Dropbox update. Let us know in the comments how you feel about the update.

Valve updates the Steam for Android app with a new UI and much more

Valve has finally updated the Steam for Android app, which has leaped from v1.1 right up to v2.0. The new Steam for Android app includes a totally revamped UI, something that Valve is calling "material".

The navigation drawer, according to Android Police, has "been completely rearranged in this update, and now includes links to your intentory, library, and additional app settings like disconnecting from the chat". Valve adds that it has fixed up background battery drain and the weird spontaneous login issues that many gamers were used to. The changelog for the app includes:

    • Changing from one screen to another is faster
    • Will not use battery when it is inactive
    • Will not log in unexpectedly
    • If possible, when resumed, the application will return to the screen it was on
    • Startup screen can be set
    • Chat history from other devices is available
    • Chat history for offline friends is available
    • Navigation menu has links to Inventory, Library, going offline for chat and logging out
    • Material design, higher res images, simplified settings, faster on older devices
    • Other fixes

You can grab Steam for Android from the Google Play store, or grab it from APK Mirror.

BlackBerry's BBM 'Private Chat' Protects Against Unwanted Screenshots

Blackberry launched a new "Private Chat" feature for its BBM instant messaging application for Blackberry 10, Android and iOS. Private Chat is meant to strip out the pictures and names from a conversation so that if anyone takes a screenshot, they can't see who said what.
In the demo above, Blackberry portrayed a situation in which one employee tells another that he will pretend to get sick so he doesn't come to work the next day. Blackberry said that if he had used Private Chat, then his privacy would have been protected in this case because the other colleague in the conversation wouldn't be able to take a screenshot of it. Of course, the colleague could also tell their boss that Zack is only pretending to be sick, but he wouldn't have any proof of it.
Private Chat conversations can also self-destruct after a certain amount of time, and you can set the length in BBM's settings. The Private Chat feature and the timing for self-destruction of messages are included in the new Privacy and Control Subscription, which will cost $0.99 a month. Current subscribers of the "Timed and Retracted Messages" feature, which Private Chat will be replacing, will be upgraded for free to the new bundle.
The new BBM update also includes a redesign on Android, which follows Google's "Material Design" principles. Material Design has been adopted rather quickly by Android developers ever since Lollipop came out, especially compared to the previous "Holo" design guidelines.
Matias Duarte, who is Google's Vice President of Design, stated at Google I/O this year that over 40 percent of new apps use material design and over 200,000 apps have already adopted it in less than a year. He also said that the Material Design guidelines site has been visited over 2.5 million times so far, which isn't bad for a design resource.
The new BBM app also includes a new way to organize stickers and a new "quote message" feature to reference other people's messages in conversations. On iOS, the font is now based on the system font, which Blackberry believes users will appreciate.
The new BBM with Private Chat can be downloaded from both the Play Store and the Apple App Store now.

Google’s Photo App Made Huge Blunder while Tagging People

A lot of things can go wrong when you work with automated processes and Google recently learned that the hard way as their animal tagging system went overboard and started tagging people.
The recently released Photo app was a convenient addition to the already existing apps with automatic photo syncing as well as automatic tagging. And it was the last part, the automatic tagging, that didn’t work as it was supposed to. The automatic feature started to tag dark-skinned people as gorillas and we imagine the embarrassment within the Google headquarter must have been huge.
Programmer Jacky Alciné discovered this and shared his tagging results on Twitter. It didn’t take long before someone from Google got wind of it, and it wasn’t just anybody. Google’s own Chief Social Architect, Yonathan Zunger, reacted just hours after in the best possible way. Instead of blaming others and finding excuses, he said it as it is. We screwed up and this isn’t okay.

Custom Google Maps Now Accessible Through Drive, Works With Other Google Apps

One of the most common uses of Google Maps is, obviously, for navigation. By opening the app on your smartphone, you can use it to go from Point A to B without spending more money on a dedicated GPS device. However, Google Maps also allows you to make custom maps for a presentation, planning trips, or simply for keeping track of other types of data. Google made another improvement to the system, this time allowing users to create and manage their custom maps via Google Drive.
At a glance, this might seem like a very minor update, but this opens new ways for using Google Maps in a variety of scenarios. You can import addresses and other data from Sheets, or have a detailed map with various locations, time stamps and other useful data that can be shared to a group in a Google Drive file. That can also include schedules via Sheets or long messages written on Google Docs.
For the more advanced Google Maps tinkerer, you can also use Google's Apps Script to craft your own add-ons to make Maps (and the other apps within Google Drive) more unique and informational to you. Just like sharing custom maps with friends and colleagues, you can customize an Apps Script so that a shared custom map will also have additional layers of information for the recipient.
The update is available now, and users can easily start by creating a new file on Google Drive and selecting Google My Maps. It's simply another way for all of Google's apps to work together, but with a little elbow grease on the user's end, especially with Apps Script, it can be a powerful tool both for work and pleasure.

Google Photos Labels Black Couple As ‘Gorillas'; Really Google?

When Google announced its updated Photo app, users all around were excited to hear about its new features. With the ability to better manage your photos and nearly unlimited storage, Photos provided an efficient way for everyone to store, manage and organize their snapshots. But looks like not everyone’s impressed with the new app’s ‘search’ feature that allows users to search photographs simply by using appropriate tags and labels. In fact, for one twitter user, @jackcalcine, the app churned out some downright embarrassing results.

Google Photos Labels Users As Gorillas – Makes Company Issue Apology

As you can see in the image above, when twitter user jackyalcine decided to use Google’s Photos app to organize his pictures, what he got in return wasn’t what he was expecting by any means. A photograph of him and his friend has been labelled by Google Photos as ‘Gorillas’, sparking a severe outrage from the user, as should be the case. Applications naming people as animals should not happen anywhere, particularly given how sensitive an issue racism has become over the past couple of months.
Google engineer, Yonatan Zunger was quick to respond to jackyalcine’s outrage and asked for the user’s permission to access his information so Google could further investigate the matter. He was also quick to announce that Google’s already rolling out a fix for the issue, which should have gone live by now. Several users were quick to join jackyalcine in his outrage, with tweets showing sympathies following the post. All in all goes to show how much work every application rolled out needs, even from software giants the likes of Google. Kudos for Google for fixing the issue as soon as possible, with Zunger staying in touch with jackyalcine constantly for updates. Thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
