The Legend of Zelda Wii U Listed For a Spring 2015 Release – Could This Mean a New Console Reveal From Nintendo at E3?

GameStop Italy have listed The Legend of Zelda Wii U, with a spring 2015 release, by a box art display. The cover for the game says “Primavera 2015″ which translates to Spring 2015. Although, it could just be a placeholder for the Nintendo title, it could be really exciting as well as extremely beneficial to Nintendo if it were actually true.

Releasing The Legend of Zelda, during Spring would ensure that Nintendo avoids, Sony’s and Microsoft big hitters that are coming out in Fall 2015. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Halo 5: Guardians are both confirmed to be released in Fall 2015.
The Legend of Zelda, has been one of Nintendo’s most iconic and successful franchises, and include some of the most highly acclaimed titles in the world of video games. The series as of 2011, the series had sold over 67 million copies. The Legend of Zelda games feature a mixture of puzzles, action, adventure/battle gameplay, and exploration. These elements have remained constant throughout the series, but with refinements and additions featured in each new game.

Nintendo is having a live press conference at E3 2015

There have been rumors, that Nintendo, would be having a live press conference this year at E3. The official log for E3 exhibitors does indeed confirm Nintendo for a theater as well as three booths. For the past two years Nintendo have been absent from the Electronic Entertainment Expo, having their own Nintendo Direct live stream, during the time of the event. Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America has previously reported:
“We think the best way to bring our message to the fans, to the larger community, is to create an event, to create something that we believe has all of the little Nintendo magic and pixie dust, and communicate that directly.”
Nintendo, have not yet revealed any information what they have in store for their E3 conference, but we were aware of two big titles, releasing from Microsoft, The Legend of Zelda and Starfox both for the Wii U. With the possibility of the Legend of Zelda, being released for the Wii U, prior to the E3 event, it begs the question, what is Nintendo planning for the E3 live conference.

This brings us to my belief that Nintendo, will indeed be announcing a new console and or a new handheld. Closing in to its third year since release, the Wii U console has seen very lackluster success, with a much smaller install base than the much recently released PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The Sony and Microsoft platforms feature much stronger hardware, with the Wii U being more comparable to the last generation of consoles rather than the current one.
Nintendo has been known to have one of the greatest and highest quality line-ups of first party titles in the industry. Although with the gaming public wanting a console that will play the latest releases of the most popular series, such Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, as well as the annual sports titles, with the most cutting edge graphics available, Nintendo’s console falls a bit short.
Nintendo have already hinted that they are working on a new console, and with AMD reporting that they are providing a GPU for a big console manufacturer, it certainly points towards Nintendo’s direction. The Legend of Zelda is probably Nintendo’s most beloved franchise, alongside Mario, so having the former being released sooner for the Wii U, ensures both support for the older console as well as time to build up anticipation for the E3 conference.

Nintendo could be announcing a new console at this year’s E3, with a possible release for Holiday 2016 or early 2017. With both Sony’s and Microsoft’s consoles being relatively underpowered, compared to today’s PC hardware, it won’t be hard for Nintendo to outperform it’s competitor’s offering with a much more powerful console, that could still be quite affordable. This could give Nintendo, a technical advantage of about 2-4 years, depending on the potential life cycle of the current-gen consoles.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, mentioned that they are looking into bringing the Mario franchise in new ways for the next Nintendo console, so this could potentially mean that Mario could make a big return as a launch title for the new system. Regardless of what Nintendo have in store for us, we will bring you any new information regarding The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U, as well as any additional Nintendo news, as soon as they become available.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U delayed until 2016 – Will Not be Making an Appearance at E3 2015.

Nintendo has shared a video entitled “Wii U – The Legend of Zelda Development Update – 3/27/2015″, which can be viewed below, announces that the highly anticipated Zelda title will not be coming out until next year. Series producer Eiji Aonuma speaks in the development update video.

Nintendo has also noted on Twitter that the game will not be making an appearance at E3 2015 in June. Aonuma previously shared that the upcoming Zelda game was on track for 2015.
Even though this delay might be attributed to development difficulties, or a choice for implementing innovative ideas in the open world Zelda adventure, there is a possibility that other factors might be influencing this.
Nintendo’s recent announcement that it would be making an entrance into the mobile gaming scene, as well as revealing the existence of a new dedicated gaming system, could have some impact on the release of one of Nintendo’s biggest titles in years.
“In these last three months, as the team has experienced firsthand the freedom of exploration that hasn’t existed in any Zelda game to date, we have discovered several new possibilities for this game,” he explained. “As we have worked to turn these possibilities into reality, new ideas have continued to spring forth, it now feels like we have the potential to create something that exceeds even my own expectations.”
“We are no longer making our 2015 release our number one priority. Instead, our priority is to make it the most complete and ultimate Zelda game,” he added. “I hope to use the added time to make The Legend of Zelda for Wii U into a game that will reward you for your patience.”

Nintendo also revealed that they will be having a press conference at E3 2015, something that the company has been absent from lately. This could indicate that there is something potentially big coming from Nintendo at E3. and even if they did state that more information on the new Nintendo “NX”, or just Nintendo X system, will be coming next year, it is quite possible that Nintendo could be making a reveal of the new system at E3.
Regardless, we will bring you any new information on the new Zelda, as well as Nintendo as soon as it becomes available. Be sure to check out our previous coverage, here and here.

Link from The Legend of Zelda Looks Right at Home in Unreal Engine 4 Demo

‘CryZENx’ has released a new video showcasing Link from the legendary Legend of Zelda series, running around in the Unreal Engine 4 Kite environment. As with the previous projects made by ‘CryZENx’, with Mario and Sonic, the latest features somewhat rough animations, but Link does seem a bit more at home in the open world environment of the demo, as The Legend of Zelda is more akin to a meadow environment compared to the other recent offerings.
You can enjoy a tease of what a “Next-Gen” Zelda title would look like below:

Other notable Unreal Engine 4 projects include the gorgeous Absention, a new survival horror title inspired by true survival horror greats such as Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness and Silent Hill so fans can expect a mixture of mental challenge, intense gameplay, and immersive environments.
Unreal Engine forum member ‘koola‘ has recently released two screenshots from his latest project, that looked just absolutely mind-blowing, and now he has released two more images from the map and a video showcasing fully procedural ground textures. Koola mentions that big rocks come from the Epic Kite Demo.

Koola has previously delivered some hyper realistic real-time architectural visualizations using Unreal Engine 4. Taking advantage of both the power and accessibility of UE4, the results of his work have wowed colleagues and has garnered attention from the international press and the Unreal team at Epic. Earlier this year Koola became the very first recipient of the inaugural Unreal Dev Grants program, a financial development fund designed to incentivize and reward innovative projects designed in Unreal Engine 4.
Witness the making of the first-person experience ADR1FT, Three One Zero’s narrative-driven survival game that takes the genre to breathless levels. CGCloud has created an incredibly impressive new project, LondonLoft, using the Unreal Engine 4. The astounding wlakthrough can be watched here.
Acclaimed game-development studio Dontnod and publisher Focus Home Interactive, announced Vampyr, a new role-playing game powered by Unreal Engine 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Ad Infinitum is a first-person survival horror adventure set in a surreal world during WWI. It is built on the Unreal Engine 4 and is currently under development for the PC.
Downward is a beautiful first person parkour based, scenery open-world adventure set during the Middle Ages, after that the events depicted in the Book of Revelation of St. John took their course. ARK: Survival Evolved, is a multiplayer first person survival game coming to Early Access in June 2015, with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions planned for 2016.
We will bring you any new information on other Unreal Engine 4 projects as soon as it becomes available.

Nintendo wants Zelda Wii U to be the best Zelda game ever

Nintendo has ambitious plans to make the new Zelda Wii U game the "best Zelda experience" yet--but to beat all the other entries in the series the Japanese gaming titan will need to really push the bar.

"We confirmed that a Zelda game, a new Zelda experience is in development for the Wii U and we have our team hard at work on that," Nintendo exec Scott Moffitt told iDigitalTimes in an E3 2015 interview. "We want that to be the best Zelda experience. Fans have been waiting for and deserve a game when it's ready, when it's fully featured and when it can live up to what we would like to deliver."

Originally slated for a release this year on the flagging Wii U console, Nintendo delayed Zelda Wii U for TBA 2016 leaving the possibility open for a cross-platform launch on Nintendo's mysterious new NX platform.

Many fans wonder whether or not a cross-release on the NX was actually the reason for the game's delay. A timely 2015 release would be strategic move to push Wii U sales--a trend that has grown since the successive releases of exclusives like Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. and Splatoon. Additionally the longer Nintendo delays the more anticipation and expectation builds, adding more pressure to make Zelda Wii U an over-the-top game.

Since the next installment in the landmark fantasy franchise is much more ambitious than its predecessors, featuring a dynamic open-world filled with unique monsters and reactive combat, Nintendo will indeed need all the time they can get to ensure things are in pristine condition. Given the high quality of previous Zelda games, the company is likely right in their decision.

"We have discovered several new possibilities for this game," Aonuma said during the official delay announcement, but we'll have to wait until 2016 to find out the specifics.

The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess HD To Feature Extra Dungeon Unlockable With Wolf Link Amiibo – Rumor

The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess HD, the remaster of the Zelda game released on Wii and GameCube years ago, will allow players who have never experienced the original releases with brand new graphics and some extra features. Not much is currently known for sure about these features, but it seems like players will be able to explore one extra dungeon.

Earlier today Amazon France has revealed that The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess HD will include an extra dungeon called The Twilight Cave. This dungeon can apparently only be accessed with the new Wolf Link amiibo figure. The online retailer has also revealed that the Zelda series amiibo can be used to unlock minor bonuses such as life regeneration, extra arrows and more. Nintendo has yet to confirm this new dungeon as of now so we must take all this with a grain of salt until an official confirmation comes in.

This week’s issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu has confirmed some of the other changes included in the new version of the game. According to some of the screenshots included in the magazine, it will be possible to carry more than 1000 Rupees and there will also be less Tears of Light to collect, 12 instead of 16. These tweaks, which should make the experience smoother and less frustrating for those who haven’t played many entries of the series, seem in line with the tweaks added to the HD version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker released a while back on Wii U.
The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess HD will be released exclusively on Wii U on March 4th 2016. We will let you know more about the additional content included in the HD remaster as soon as possible so stay tuned for all the latest news.

New Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Video shows you the storyline

The story trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD has been released on Nintendo's YouTube channel. And give a glimpse into one of the better installments of the series, and shows off the great new graphics of the remaster.

The game is heavily stylized and the story can definitely seem like it's a bit on the wild-side, but it's entertaining and whimsical in the way that can capture good childhood memories. If you've never had a chance to play the game before, it's a fascinating tale, to say the least. And the puzzles are some of the finest of any Legend of Zelda games.

If you're interested and happen to have a Wii U lying around, then The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is coming to a console near you on March 4th 2016. There's even a very nice Wolf Link amiibo to give you exclusive in-game items.

As mentioned above, The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess HD will come with plenty of new features as well as gameplay tweaks and more. Last month it’s been revealed that players will be able to carry more than 1000 Rupees in the game and that they will have to collect less Tears of Light to proceed past a certain point in the game.
Among the many new features introduced in The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess HD is amiibo support, which will allow players to access exclusive features by using amiibo figures representing The Legend Of Zelda characters. Also, by using the new Wolf Link amiibo, players will be able to access the optional dungoen called the Cave of Shadows, which has to be cleared while Link is in wolf form. This dungeon features 40 floors, so it promises to be quite challenging.
The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess HD will launch on March 4th in North America and Europe exclusively on Wii U.

The Legend of Zelda’ Celebrates 30th Birthday

There are certain events in life that can make you feel old. A passing of a relative, like a grandparent or aunt or uncle is one. Your child graduating from high school is another. Seeing actors and actresses you grew up watching suddenly look old. And then there's The Legend of Zelda, which if you were unaware just celebrated its 30th birthday over the weekend.

Has it really been three whole decades? It may not seem like it, but Nintendo launched The Legend of Zelda on February 21, 1986, in Japan. The game didn't debut in cartridge form, as many of you reading this probably remember playing it. Instead, it was introduced as the launch title for a disk system peripheral. This is what the peripheral looked like:

    image: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages...isk_System.jpg

While a floppy disk may have seemed like a step backwards, it gave Nintendo a cheaper storage solution to work with compared to cartridges. In addition to The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo launched half a dozen other titles with its Disk System, including Baseball, Golf, Mahjong, Soccer, Tennis, and a re-release of Super Mario Bros.

It would be another year and a half before Nintendo would release The Legend of Zelda to North America, which shipped in cartridge form. This is what you probably remember playing (and blowing into to blast out bits of dust):

    image: http://hothardware.com/ContentImages..._Cartridge.jpg

Brings back memories, doesn't it? Nintendo didn't know it at the time, but Zelda would later become one of the biggest and most popular game franchises of all time—the series has sold over 75 million copies to date and has seen launches and re-releases on numerous game systems, as well as spin-offs and even TV cartoons. Now there are toys and all kinds of related accessories available. And it all started with the original, which incidentally was the first NES title to sell over 1 million copies.

Did you play the original Zelda title on NES? What's your favorite game from that era?

We should expect 'something new' from the Legend of Zelda on Wii U

The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U was one of the most anticipated games of 2015, and now it retains that status for 2016. The producer for the game, Eiki Aonuma, says we should expect something new compared to the previous games, maybe even something more mature than we're used to.

In the latest issue of Famitsu, the producer was excited to report that progress for the game has been very good, and that the whole game is taking shape very well. He likens the change to how different The Ocarina of Time was compared to A Link to the Past on the SNES. It was dramatic, but it was also quite enjoyable. He even hinted at seeing a possible western influence to shake up the franchise.

He emphasized that we should look forward to what he has in store for us, that the differences will be good for Link and Zelda. "Perhaps, players will be surprised. Please look forward to it, because I think we'll be able to make 'something new' like Ocarina of Time was." Aonuma said to Famitsu.

Change and the response to it might be a difficult thing to take, but we need to understand that without change we may end up with a stale game that only improves visually. Though they're taking chances, Nintendo is looking to innovate for all the right reasons. It's also good for their business, as the Wii U currently isn't selling so well.

Web-Based 3D Legend Of Zelda Tribute

In honor of the game's 30th anniversary, a couple of guys have made a voxel-based The Legend of Zelda game built entirely in WebGL. I'm not sure how long this will stay up given Nintendo's penchant for putting the squash on anything that uses sound effects, music and characters from its games. So, if you want to try it out, you had better hurry because it might not be there for long.

Analogue's 24-Karat Gold, $5,000 NES Proves Excess Is Best, Celebrates Zelda's 30th Birthday

The original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) debuted at $200 when it was released in the U.S. market over three decades ago. Gamers have since moved on to faster and more powerful systems since then, though if you're feeling nostalgic for old school NES action and want to go the luxury route, a company called Analogue will happily sell you the original NES guts in a fancy new chassis. They'll even gold plate it!

Never heard of Analogue? The company made a name for itself by selling a luxury console that plays original NES cartridges. Unlike many of the cheap NES alternatives out there, Analogue's uses the original hardware CPU (Ricoh 2A03) and PPU (Ricoh 2C02) that Nintendo did back in the day. That means players can expect the exact same gaming experience they remember without any weird side effects.

It also uses identical controller ports, along with the original Famicon expansion port. There are no blinking lights on the thing, no lockout chips, and no region limitations. The console itself is precision fabricated from a single, solid block of aluminum—it's essentially an NES that's all grown up.

That's a $499 system we're talking about. If you didn't already spit your coffee on your monitor, take a moment to swallow that last gulp. All gone? Good, because if you're interested in the new 24k gold plated Analogue Nt console, it will cost you ten times as much—$4,999!

Analogue is releasing just 10 gold plated (inside and out) consoles to celebrate the Legend of Zelda's 30th anniversary. Every unit comes with an original, gold colored Legend of Zelda cartridge, along with a premium limited edition box, RGB or HDMI upgrade, and full cable set or HDMI cable.

Play a Voxel Powered Zelda Recreation in Your Browser

Been looking for an excuse the replay the original Zelda? Well, we’ve got a great one for you! A team of Zelda fans has taken the classic RPG and rebuilt it in 2.5D to celebrate 30-years of the franchise. No doubt this is one of those “play it before Nintendo shoot it down” scenarios, so it’s best to get playing while it’s still alive.
Zelda30Tribute is playable directly in your browser, meaning you don’t have to hang around to get in on the action. What’s really cool, however, is that the game is created using Voxels, giving it a really unique visual appearance. Unfortunately, it is still a work in progress, so only three dungeons are ready right now, and if Nintendo kill it, it’s likely you’ll have to dig a little deeper on the web to find future builds, but they’ll certainly be out there.
You can hit up Zelda30Tribute at the official website here, and be sure to let us know what you think of it in the comments section below.
What was your favourite Zelda game? Would you like to see it getting a modern remake or are you happy with it the way it is?

Nintendo Copyright Claim Removes 3D Zelda Tribute

Nintendo’s attitude towards their dedicated fan-base paying homage to the company’s previous works is nothing short of appalling. They’ve consistently launched copyright claims against YouTuber hobbyists simply trying to showcase what made their favourite games so special. Instead of admiring this level of passion, the company feels the need to flag anything which uses their intellectual property. In some cases, this makes sense if the game is episodic and people can watch a playthrough instead of purchasing it through legitimate channels. However, Nintendo is applying this kind of behaviour to NES, SNES and other classics to push their own overpriced Virtual Console store.
Only three days ago, a new project came to fruition designed to honour the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. This allowed players to enjoy the game through a web browser and looked absolutely stunning. Sadly, Nintendo didn’t approve and believed this infringed on their intellectual property. It’s clear that the creation breaches copyright, but it’s just a small team trying to share the magic of the Zelda series. The project creators, Scott Lininger and Mike Magee announced the news on zelda30tribute.com which reads:
“Nintendo asked us to remove this site for copyright infringement. I guess Zelda30Tribute was a little too pixel perfect. We’re sad about that, but we get it. We started this project because we love Nintendo and the joy they have given us throughout the years. From the start of development, we knew this result could potentially happen. Nintendo has every right to protect their IP. No complaints from us, we had a blast working on this tribute and made some friends along the way.”
Of course, Nintendo are well within their rights to protect intellectual property. On the other hand, it comes across very poorly given the game’s age. Furthermore, it’s a terrible way to treat loyal fans showcasing their creative abilities. Nintendo desperately needs to adapt to the modern world and encourage community content as a way of indirect marketing.
