ASUS Created Safer CPU Installation for Their Z170 Boards

Not every user that builds PC systems is equally skilled and bent pins have been a problem on Intel motherboards for quite some time thanks to that. The research and development department at ASUS also noticed that and the amount of warranty cases they have in this regards and as a result they came up with the new CPU installation tool.
The new CPU mounting system will be available on the companies Z170 motherboard and are due to be launched very soon and that I’m sure some of our readers already have their eyes on and wallets in their hands – they do look amazing.
The new system works by placing the CPU bottom side up and sliding it into a CPU bracket first. Then that bracket is placed onto the socket before finally being secured with the ledge. With the new bracket, it’s only possible to put the CPU in the way it also fits and it should help reduce the amount of warranty cases that come in with bent pins.

ASUS Hong Kong shared this on their Facebook page without much more information, but I think we can safely assume that this new mounting system will make its way onto their entire range and not just the flagship boards.I b

MSI springs a leak; next-gen motherboard details slip out

There may be some sort of new Intel processor release coming soon, something that I, as a new contributor to TR, wouldn't know anything about. I dunno. But as luck would have it, we've obtained a little bit of information about what MSI's next-gen motherboards may feature. I'll show you if you can keep a secret. Shh—don't tell anybody, okay?
The first thing on tap is a backplate, which MSI calls Reactive Armor. Using an insulator between the motherboard with all its electrical components and the (mostly) metal case makes sense, and having some reinforcement on the back should help protect against board flex.
In the same vein, protecting a motherboard from an unexpected shock on the back doesn't do any good if your PC takes a zap over an Ethernet cable. MSI will apparently include enhanced overvoltage protection called LAN Protect. This feature is already shipping on the X99A Godlike Gaming board we covered back in June.
M.2 storage is definitely the way of the future, and MSI seems prepared for that with something it's calling Twin Turbo M.2. On the aforementioned X99A Godlike Gaming, the Turbo M.2 moniker means that board's M.2 slot is paired with four lanes of PCIe 3.0 connectivity, good for a claimed 32Gb/s. The presence of a pair of these slots could imply that the as-yet-unknown new CPUs or chipsets have plenty of PCI Express lanes on tap. We'll have to wait and see.

    GIGABYTE Z170-SOC Force Motherboard Pictured

Here are some of the first pictures of GIGABYTE's flagship socket LGA1151 motherboard targeted at professional overclockers, the Z170-SOC Force. Built in the standard ATX form-factor, this board offers strong CPU and memory VRM, and yet offers a connectivity loadout that's in league with "gaming" class motherboards. To begin with, the board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX, 8-pin EPS, 4-pin ATX, and 6-pin PCIe power connectors. A 24-phase VRM powers the CPU, its heatsink features preparation for liquid cooling. The CPU socket is wired to four DDR4 DIMM slots (supporting up to 64 GB of dual-channel DDR4-3200 memory).

Expansion slots include four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (electrical x16/NC/NC/x4 or x8/NC/x8/x4 or x8/x4/x4/x4); and three PCI-Express 3.0 x1. Storage connectivity includes three M.2 slots (32 Gb/s), three SATA-Express 16 Gb/s ports, and a total of eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports. USB connectivity includes two USB 3.1 ports (two type-A, from which one converts to type-C if it's populated), eight USB 3.0 ports (four on the rear panel, four by header), and a number of USB 2.0/1.1 ports, including two type-A ports near the SATA ports (could help serve as "front-panel" ports in bench-type case setups). Display outputs include one each of DVI, HDMI and mini-DisplayPort (which likely also means availability of Thunderbolt 20 Gb/s). Gigabit Ethernet and GIGABYTE's latest generation Amp-Up audio solution make for the rest of it. A plethora of onboard OC control options are available. Find more pictures at the source.

(estou a excluir, claro, as outras specs, tipo audio, conexoes, etc)
Com isto, nem meto a Godlike ou a Rampage ao barulho.

Gigabyte Next Gaming 3 motherboard photo

Interesting to see how ALL manufacturers all of the sudden have a Gaming line ? Below a photo of the Gaming 3 motherboard based on socket LGA1151 for Skylake. This Series Z170 chipset based motherboard supports 2 way multi-gpu gaming.
The motherboard is based on a 7-phase VRM for the CPU and has 4 DDR4 DIMM slots supporting 64GB dual-channel memory. The board has the regulars like two M2 slots (32 Gbps), three sata express ports and six Sata 6 gbps ports as well as USB 3.1 and eight USB 3.0 ports. Audio is dealt by an AMP-UP audio solution with 115 dBA SNR CODEC, likely realtek 1150. Networking is based on a Killer chip, not sure if that is the E2200 or the new E2400 though. Display outputs include D-Sub, DVI, and HDMI. Have a peek:

ASUS ROG Z170 MAXIMUS VIII Motherboards Lineup Unveiled

ASUS is introducing several motherboards based on the 100-series chipsets but we are specifically going to talk about just four. What’s so special about the four boards we are talking today? All of these boards feature Z170 chipset and support Skylake processors but these boards are also part of the ROG family. In fact, these are the eight iteration of the ROG Maximus family hence the MAXIMUS VIII in the branding. All four boards being part of the ROG family feature the best and quality components that are aimed towards hardware enthusiasts and gamers. These four products include the flagship, ROG Maximus VIII Extreme, the performance Maximus VIII Hero, the compact Maximus VIII Gene and the mainstream Maximus VIII Ranger motherboards. Let’s talk in full detail about these new motherboards.
ASUS Z170 ROG Maximus VIII Extreme:

Starting off with the flagship ROG Maximus VIII Extreme, we are looking at a beast of a design with a full silver metal and red color scheme that looks great on the black PCB. The motherboard features the LGA 1151 socket that supports 6th generation Skylake processors and is powered by a 8-Pin and 4-Pin power configuration. The board is supplied power through the 24-Pin ATX connector. On the PWM, we see a 12 Phase DIGI+ VRM that is surrounded by a large heatsink that incorporates heat pipe cooling for stability while operation and even under overclocks. Four DDR4 DIMMs offer support for 64 GB of memory with speeds of up to 3400 MHz (O.C+). The motherboard is loaded with tuning buttons and switches along with voltage check-points for overclocking and tuning.

Expansion slots include four PCI-e 3.0 x16 (x16/x8/x8/x8 electrical), two PCI-e 3.0 x1 aand a single M.2 NGFF SSD slot. A PEG connector adds more power to the board when it is loaded with several expansion cards and graphics cards. There’s a PLX chip hidden beneath the heatsink to the bottom of the LGA 1151 socket which adds more PCI-E lanes. Storage includes 8 SATA III 6 GB/s ports, two SATA Express ports and a U.2 SSD port that leads to a Mini-SAS connector to connect to NVMe SSDs. On top of the ports are two USB 3.0 internal headers with one right angled headers and at the bottom, we can see the Dual BIOS’s and two USB 2.0 internal headers. We can also see SupremeFX audio system powering the on-board audio on the Maximus VIII Extreme which is going to drive the 7.1 channel audio. The whole I/O is covered in a protective armor which looks cool.
ASUS Z170 ROG Maximus VIII Hero:

The ROG Maximus VIII Hero is a more toned down version of the Maximus VIII Extreme that retains the color scheme and the protective armor. The LGA 1151 socket is powered by a 8-Pin connector and the CPU socket is surrounded by a 10 Phase DIGI+ VRM. Four DDR4 DIMMs offer 64 GB memory support while expansion slots include three PCI-e 3.0 x16 (x16/x8/x8 electrical), three PCI-e 3.0 x1 and a single M.2 SSD slot. Storage options include 8 SATA III 6 GB/s ports and two SATA Express ports rated at 16 GB/s. Two USB 3.0 header is found on the board along with two USB 2.0 headers. I/O includes Supreme FX powered 7.1 channel audio jack, USB 3.1 Type-C ports, 6 USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0, Display port and a LAN port. This board will be priced lower than the Extreme with a price of $220-$250 US.
ASUS Z170 ROG Maximus VIII Gene:

The ROG Maximus VIII Gene is the Micro-ATX form factor motherboard of the ROG lineup. This motherboard being small in size, keeps things on the extreme level with its loaded design scheme. The LGA 1151 socket is powered by a 8-Pin power connector. A 10 Phase DIGI+ VRM that comes with high-end components and black capacitors drives the CPU to its limits and is cooled down by a heatpipe based heatsink solution which blends in with the design nicely. Four DDR4 DIMMs offer support for 64 GB memory (3400 MHz O.C+). A few OC switches can be found to the bottom of the board with the diagnostic LED allocated in the top-right section of the PCB. Expansion slots include two PCI-e 3.0 x16 slots (x16/x8 electrical) and a PCI-e 3.0 x4 slot.
A single M.2 SSD slot is also located on this board which is useful for NGFF SSDs. Storage includes 6 SATA III 6 GB/s ports, two SATA Express port and USB 3.0/USB 2.0 internal headers.

Intel LGA 1151 Official Specifications and Complete ASUS Z170 Lineup Leaked – “ASUS Deluxe Socket” Will Not Conform to Official Specs

ASUS has had a pretty admirable history of always ignoring Intel’s official specifications of their LGA sockets and introducing their exclusive revisions. While this is a risky move which can result in compatibility and stability problems, they have managed to pull it off successfully in the past with their “OC Socket”. As the introduction of the LGA 1151 draws closer, history is repeating itself with the Z170 ASUS Deluxe Socket (via Benchlife.info).

ASUS Z170 lineup and LGA 1151 official specs leaked – deluxe socket pictured

As many of you will know LGA stands for Land Grid Array, while the succeeding number depicts the amount of pins the socket has. As such, I have always found it kind of funny that ASUS tends to call its non-Intel specified sockets the same as the Intel counterparts. For eg, the LGA 1151 Deluxe Socket from ASUS, does not have 1151 pins, rather quite a few more. Given below is the official 1151 specifications that Add in Board Partners are to adhere to:

The motherboard manufacturers are supposed to place a pin for every pad present on the processor. In the case of Skylake-S processors, this number is exactly 1151. This is why most LGA 1151 sockets will have exactly 1151 pins – that is, except ASUS. In the case of the X99 OC Socket, the move was supposed to bring higher stability while overclocking and better power management to the processor. In the case of the ASUS Deluxe Socket however, there don’t seem to be any apparent advantages (none that our source have reported at any rate).
ASUS is planning to unveil the following motherboards for the Z170 chipset:

    • ASUS (Z170) Maximus VIII Ranger
    • ASUS (Z170) Maximus VIII Hero
    • ASUS (Z170) Maximus VIII Gene
    • ASUS (Z170) Maximus VIII Extreme
    • ASUS Z170 Deluxe
    • ASUS Z170-K
    • ASUS Z170-A
    • ASUS Z170 Pro (Cancelled)
    • ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming

There will also be “AR” variants of the Deluxe and A variants. AR appears to be a codename for Alpine Ridge, which is the next generation thunderbolt controller for Skylake processors. Alpine Ridge will double the bandwidth of the interface from 20 Gb/s to 40 Gb/s while cutting the power consumption by half. That’s not it either, Alpine Ridge is a multipurpose connection and can churn out HDMI 2.0, USB 3.0 and DP 1.2, not to mention provide charging of upto 100 Watts power.
Intel is readying its Z170 platform for launch on the 5th of August while some of the 170 series will follow behind on 30th August. Many manufacturers have already teased Z170 boards, so the socket isn’t exactly top secret. In today’s world, the AIB that can offer the slightest advantage will be the one that consumers will buy, since we are talking about heavy uniformity in AIB products and in the case of ASUS – this could be the Deluxe Socket.
