Swipe To Dismiss Photos In iOS 8 With PhotoDismiss8

iOS 9 is on the verge of release and while a lot of details have been disclosed by Apple itself, there are some little features left that make up most of the operating system. A known characteristic of the forthcoming iOS 9 is the swipe to dismiss images in the Photos app, a feature that Facebook has already incorporated in its app for a long time. However, if the wait for iOS 9 seems cumbersome, you can get this feature on your iOS 8 right now.

The simple swipe to dismiss gesture is really useful in day to day use as it tends to minimize the workload of reaching to the top of the display and tapping the back button. If you’re lucky to have a jailbroken device, you can put your hands on the PhotoDismiss8 tweak right now. PhotoDismiss8 is a new jailbreak tweak that has a very simplistic approach to dismiss photos in your stock Photos app.
Let’s shed some light on the new jailbreak tweak, PhotoDismiss8.
Dismiss Photos With A Simple Swipe In iOS 8

Photodismiss8 is a simple tweak that integrates with your stock Photos app and incorporates a swipe to dismiss feature. Whatever photo you’re viewing, you can simply apply the swipe gesture to dismiss it. As for the tweak, it is currently not available in the Cydia repos so you will first need to add third party repo sources to your Cydia list. Add the following repo address to your Cydia list and install PhotoDismiss8:

Once you install the tweak to your device, it does not require any configuration or setting. It will operate in the Photos app normally as soon as it is installed. To check if the tweak has been successfully installed, simply navigate to your Photos app and open a photo. Once you do that, perform the swipe down gesture. If the photo slides down and takes you back to the album, the tweak is working fine.

However, do take note that since the tweak is an early development, its functionality is only limited under the Albums tab. The tweak fails to perform under the Photos tab which is a peculiar thing to ignore. We have no idea if other tabs were reserved for a pricey version of the tweak or has it been done intentionally. Nonetheless, the details will be updated as soon as we hear.
PhotoDismiss8 is a very useful tweak that every jailbreaker should give a try. It has a simplistic approach and made for users who wish to adopt the feature before the arrival of iOS 9. The tweak will also be of immense importance if you don’t want to lose the jailbreak status and yet have features of iOS 9. So give this tweak a swirl and let us know how you liked it.

iOS 8.4.1 Jailbreak Kernel Vulnerabilities Detailed By Pangu

Apple patched all TaiG jailbreak exploits with the release of iOS 8.4.1 download for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, putting an end to a long cat and mouse game between Cupertino and the flourishing community of jailbreakers. But luckily enough, the Pangu team jumped into the scene and demonstrated the first ever iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak on an iPhone 6 at HackPwn2015. Since then the team has been silent on the matter, but today, it has released some details on the kernel vulnerabilities that were used to pull the jailbreak feat off on iOS 8.4.1.

While the literature Pangu has posted might be a little too technical for some, but the team has detailed the vulnerabilities in iOS 8.4.1’s AppleHDQGasGaugeControl, which were used to pull off the jailbreak.
According to the Pangu team itself:
When auditing iOS kernel executable, we found that the code quality of com.apple.driver.AppleHDQGasGaugeControl is very bad. In this blog, we will disclose 3 vulnerabilities in this kernel extension on the latest public iOS (version 8.4.1). More importantly, one of these bugs is a perfect heap overflow vulnerability that allows us to defeat all kernel mitigations and gain code execution in the kernel, just by exploiting this single vulnerability.
The sad news here is that the second and third bugs have already been patched in iOS 9 beta 5, which means that we shouldn’t hold our breath for an iOS 9 jailbreak just yet. But given the hard work the Pangu team has put into the iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak, we’re certain that we’ll get to hear some good news in the days to come.
Note that these vulnerabilities cannot be triggered inside the container sandbox. And we confirmed that the 2nd and the 3rd bugs are already fixed in iOS 9 beta5.

Apple has also stopped signing iOS 8.4, which means that those who have updated to iOS 8.4.1 are left without a jailbreak, and there’s no possibility of downgrading your firmware whatsoever. If you’re one of those unlucky few who updated to iOS 8.4.1, then just sit tight, don’t panic, as the Pangu team will bring us positive news in the days to come, hopefully.

On iOS 8.4 or below and want to jailbreak?
If you’re a Windows user, then check out our guide posted here for complete details. Alternatively, if TaiG is not your cup of tea then you can try its alternative PP to achieve the same thing. You can follow our complete guide posted here on how to use the PP jailbreak tool to liberate iOS 8.4.
If you’re on iOS 8.4.1 already, then be sure to check out: iOS 8.4.1 Jailbreak – Everything You Need to Know.

Forthcoming Jailbreak Tweak To Bring 3D Touch Features For Older iPhones

On Wednesday, Apple unveiled a handful of products including its latest addition to the iPhone lineup, the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are to come packed with company’s newest version of iOS, iOS 9. Apple has upgraded both, hardware and software in the iPhone 6s that will surely give a new overwhelming experience to users. The hardware and software are aligned to work together in a beautiful manner. One of the most welcoming feature on the iPhone 6s is the 3D Touch which brings a new method of interaction.

The 3D Touch display has been designed to sense the amount of pressure being applied to the screen. It senses various amounts of pressure and devises a specific action for the press. For instance, there is a new ‘peek’ and ‘pop’ feature embedded onn the iPhone 6s. Pressing the display would show you the highlights and if you keep pressing it, it will pop open the action that you were referring to. iOS 9 has been designed to work well with the new 3D Touch feature. Different apps have different actions that work with the new 3D Touch technology. However, if you are not planning to upgrade to iPhone 6s, developers are working on a tweak that can enable you to achieve 3D Touch features on your current iPhone.
Let’s dive in to see what this new tweak has to offer and how will it adopt 3D Touch-esque features.

Upcoming Tweak To Host 3D Touch Features On Older iPhones

Elias Limneos is a popular Cydia developer who aims to bring the new 3D Touch features on iOS 8. Obviously, the tweak will not be able to distinguish between a hard or soft press, it will simply apply 3D Touch actions to the older iPhones or iOS 8. The developer has tinkered the tweak in a new video which can be seen below.

As can be seen in the video above, the developer has adopted similar 3D Touch features of an older iPhone. See how the developer used the Phone app to call and navigate. Users can also add new contacts from the same menu. Different apps would have different actions. The layout seems pretty much the same as 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s.
There are no details available for when this tweak might be available. However, it would surely be worth the wait. Limneos is also working on another tweak which is inspired from Apple’s keynote – Live Photos. However, details will be updated as soon as they arrive. As for now, share your views about this tweak in the comments.

Apple’s Siri Could Rat Out Your iOS Device To Hackers And Cybercriminals

Let me start by saying that Siri and I have a solid relationship. If I need directions to a place I've never been before or a reminder set, she dutifully obliges every single time. I like that. But if Siri turns on me and starts sharing my personal info without my permission, as a major security firm says is possible, we're going to have problems.

Trend Micro, makers of self-named antivirus solutions, points to a flaw in Siri's software that takes only seconds to exploit. In doing so, anyone can tap into a Siri-enabled iOS device and get access to the owner's full name, email, phone number, and a photo of that person, regardless of whether the device is locked. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

"A potential opening for abuse in Siri-equipped iOS mobile devices allows anyone to use voice recognition to access data on a device, even with a passcode," Trend Micro explains. "Ideally, a passcode should prevent unauthorized access to any information stored on a mobile device, much like a password does on a computer. A locked device should not disclose the owner’s identity and contact information, as well those of the owner’s friends, family, and contacts. Siri bypasses this and provides detailed information and other functions on a locked mobile device."

There's a lengthy list of commands that work on a locked iPhone. Someone who's up to no good could snag your iPhone when you're not paying attention and use Siri to post Facebook updates, send text messages, enable or disable alarms, add or remove reminders, show full contact details from Contacts, and more.

To be fair, there are scenarios where this kind of access can come in handy. Maybe you lost your phone and it was turned in to the local police. They could look up your info through Siri. Unfortunately, that kind of protection comes at a heavy privacy risk.

There's a simple solution in place -- just disable Sire on the lock screen, which you can do by accessing Touch ID & Passcode > Siri. But an even better solution -- one that doesn't exist within Siri yet -- would be if Apple introduced vocal identity so that only you (and perhaps anyone else you authorize and train through Siri) can use voice recognition.

In the meantime, take caution when lending out your iOS device or leaving it unattended.

HardwareSpecs Allows You To See Device Information In iOS Settings App

If you own an iOS device, yet you are unfamiliar with its internals, we have just the tweak to guide you. HardwareSpecs is a newly released jailbreak tweak which has a simple purpose. The tweak adds a new panel inside your stock iOS Settings app. The new panel will portray all your device specifications such as Model Number, Type, product, Processor, Platform, Architecture and many more.

The HardwareSpecs is an intriguing jailbreak tweak that shows you internal information about your device. Previously, iOS platform does not contain any panel responsible to display internal specifications. Henceforth, it is a good way to put an end to your suspense.
So let’s dive in to see some more details on the new jailbreak tweak and how can you make use of it.
HardwareSpecs Show Your iOS Device Details In Settings App

The HardwareSpecs jailbreak tweak makes an entry into the tweaks list with version 0.01 by the author m156@nrkvv. Once you download and install the tweak, navigate to the stock Settings app on your iOS device. After Settings, go to General where you will see a new panel by the name of ‘Hardware Specs’ between the Software Update and About section. Tapping on Hardware Specs will unveil the internal details about your device which have been nonexistent previously.
    Advertisements

As can be seen in the screenshot below, the Hardware Specs panel displays a wide variety of information about your iOS device. The new panel also displays memory details of the device as well, ranging from physical memory to the user memory. This is a pretty cool option to have in your jailroken iOS device. Since Apple will not provide this low level information to its users even in the coming days, you can might as well brag about it to your friends. Obviously, you do need to have a jailbroken iOS device to install it.

HardwareSpecs is a software-oriented jailbreak tweak that provides additional information about your devices’ internal specification. The tweak is completely free of charge. If you’re interested much, you can download it from Cydia’s BigBoss repo right now.
As for now, what do you think about this new jailbreak tweak? Does it help you by any mean? Share your views in the comments section below.

Apple’s Gatekeeper patch does not work

    Patch was just a Placebo
The Tame Apple Press did its best to tell the world that the fruity cargo cult Apple had fixed the Gatekeeper bug in its iOS software, however it looks like it is still broken and the patch was a placebo.

For those who came in late Gatekeeper was Apple’s security technology that blocks harmful applications from being installed. When a user downloads an application, Gatekeeper checks if it has a digital signature and blocks those that don't have one approved by Apple. However instead of a guard dog, it turned out to be daft Labrador who would let anyone in for the price of a biscuit and a scratch on the base of the tail.
Apple finally issued a patch in October and told everyone that had sent the problem away. No-one appeared to check that this was the case until Patrick Wardle, director of research with the company Synack, said he reverse-engineered a patch and found it was as effective as a chocolate teapot.
Wardle could still bypass Gatekeeper and install malware and he is expected to tell the world exactly how this afternoon at a US security conference.
"Releasing a patch claiming it is fixed kind of doesn't solve the problem. Users will think they're secure when they're not," he moaned to the media. It seems he has totally missed the point of what issuing a patch is supposed to do. It is not to make Macs more secure, that is far too hard. They are designed to make Apple users feel more secure by telling them everything is ok.
Wardle, who has studied OS X extensively, found the original bug that Apple patched, CVE-2015-7024. In fact all Apple’s patch did was blacklist the Apple-signed code that Wardle had used in his proof-of-concept code and some of its own files. All he had to do was target the same flaw with different code.
When Wardle pointed out to them what “proof of concept” meant Apple said that “working on a more effective patch” but he decided to go public anyway since users were still at risk.

Apple says iOS 8 and up designed to be unhackable by even Apple itself

In a freshly unsealed court case from October 2015, a judge asked Apple why it ignored requests to unlock the iPhone of a methamphetamine dealer. Turns out it didn't, the device (an iPhone 5s with iOS 7), was simply set to erase all data if someone attempted to unlock it 10 times in a row unsuccessfully (an unlocking device will try every possible code in quick succession). Presumably, this was by Apple design.

"In most cases now and in the future, the government's requested order would be substantially burdensome, as it would be impossible to perform," Apple stated, going on to say iOS 8 and above are designed to be unhackable by even Apple itself.

Apple lawyer Marc Zwillinger took it further at the hearing, noting, "Right now Apple is aware that customer data is under siege from a variety of different directions. Never has the privacy and security of customer data been as important as it is now. A hypothetical consumer could think if Apple is not in the business of accessing my data and if Apple has built a system to prevent itself from accessing my data, why is it continuing to comply with orders that don't have a clear lawful basis in doing so?"

Between this and CEO Tim Cook recently demanding the White House support unbreakable encryption, the company sure is buying a lot of goodwill among those who value privacy highly.

Wake Up To The Sound Of Music Videos On Your iOS Device – How To

The rise of smartphones meant the dawn for traditional alarm clocks. People have relied upon their smartphones to wake up. Setting stock tones from your smartphone is one of the ways of getting up. Moreover, users also have the ability to set songs from their music libraries or other places. But how cool is it to wake up to the sound of music videos when your alarm goes off? I say, pretty cool.

Set The Sound Of Music Videos As Your Alarm

If you want to wake up to the sound of your music videos, then we’re here to tell you how you can do that. This is a neat iOS 9 feature that will make your mornings or evenings great, depending on when you sleep. We have listed a few step by step instructions for you, so don’t freak out just yet. Let’s get to it
    Step 1
The first thing that you need to do is get some music videos. You can either get them through your iTunes on your Mac or iPhone. So open iTunes and search for music videos.

    Step 2
After the list of available music appears, get the one you want to wake up to. Most of them costs $1.99, buy it if you must. You can also search your favorite song or artist.

    Step 3
Once you have downloaded the music video, head to the stock Clock app on your iPhone and tap on the Alarms tab located at the bottom.
    Step 4
Create a new alarm or update an existing one by pressing the Edit button located on the upper right hand side of the display. Then select the alarm that you want to edit.
    Advertisements

    Step 5
Tap on the Sound button Then you will be prompted to Buy More Tones, set vibration style or choose Songs or Ringtones.

    Step 6
Tap on Pick a Song in the Songs section.

    Step 7
From the list of available options, select Music Videos and then choose the music video you downloaded earlier. You will only hear the audio snippet of your music video, no video is played in the stock Clock app.
    Step 8
Finally, tap on the Back button and then hit Save. Your alarm with music video is now set.
And that’s it. Once your alarm goes off, you will hear the sound of your music videos. That’s it for the trick guys. Did you like the trick? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
