    iOS 8

iOS 8.2 Expected To Release Next Week By Monday Followed By iOS 8.3

Apple has been working hard on two of the latest upcoming iOS versions. According to BGR, iOS is closing in on its release irrespective of any last minute malfunctioning. At maximum the big iOS 8.2 release could be expected to launch this coming Monday or the next week. As for now, Apple has two versions being tested wildly by the developers. Furthermore, reports claim four beta versions for Apple’s post-release, the iOS 8.3. Judging by the reports and several sources, we can see that Apple is moving fast considering its mobile operating systems.

Previously, there had been news about Apple Watch support that will be offered in iOS 8.3 and which is rumored to be released in the April’s firs week. Hence, as the Apple Watch period is nearing in, it is logical to suggest that Apple would want to release iOS 8.2 in a week to make room for an even bigger release in April. Two of the four beta versions for iOS 8.3 has been released earlier this week so it leaves two more beta versions to be released before iOS 8.3 is publicly released.
Apple Is Expected To Release iOS 8.2 Next Monday And iOS 8.3 in April

At this point in time, we know very little about the features coming with iOS 8.2 because there has been many iterations of the beta versions that you don’t know what to expect. Another interesting point that surfaced according to the reports is an iOS 8.3 public beta version before it has been officially released. It would sure be interesting to see if the public beta pans out.

As far as the iOS 8.3 features are concerned, there would obviously be support for the well hyped Apple Watch and multiple features for improvement which would drench the operating system. The Apple Watch is said to be released in early April this year and for further pricing, other details and other numerous questions will be answered on 9th March on Apple’s big event. March 9 will be the date held for ‘Spring Forward’ media event where according to some sources, the Apple Watch will b showcased and reviewed again. Apart from this the Spring Forward event would also cover the iOS 8.3 in detail. This is it for now folks, ready yourself for the update coming next week, probably Monday. CIAO!

Google Will Reportedly Bring Android Wear Support To iOS

Android and iOS are natural born enemies, but sometimes good business trumps rivalries, like the one between Google and Apple. Not to be downplayed, Steve Jobs once vowed to spend every last dime of Apple's to destroy Android. Nevertheless, it makes sense in certain situations to support your rival, which is why you may see an Android Wear app in the App Store for iPhone and iPad devices.

Right now it's considered a rumor, one that originated from French-language website 01net. According to a rough translation, Google may announce Android Wear with iOS support at the forthcoming Google I/O developer conference scheduled to run on May 28-29 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, CA.

While nothing is official yet, it wouldn't be surprising to see Google make a push on iOS. And it should be noted that one inventive developer has managed to send iPhone app notifications to an Android Wear device, so it is possible:

Apple device owners who end up not buying an Apple Watch would represent an untapped market for Google. Likewise, by announcing Android Wear for iOS, Google could steal some thunder from the Apple Watch launch and give potential buyers a serious alternative to consider.

Android Wear is a special version of Android designed for smartwatches and potentially other types of wearable devices. It's an extension of Android, not an entirely new OS, and it syncs with Android handsets to deliver notifications like text messages, phone calls, weather, and more. For now, smartwatches like the LG G Watch can only pair with handsets running Android 4.3 or later, like the HTC One M8.

One of the big advantages Android Wear has over Apple Watch is price. An Android Wear product typically sells for $199 to $300, whereas pricing for Apple Watch will start at $349 and go up from there.

Boost iPhone Battery Life On iOS 8 With These Tips

Apple’s iOS 8 software has been generally well received among the iDevice-using faithful, but with so many new features — allied to those thrown in with the preceding iOS 7 — the strain on the iPhone battery life has increased by default. Of course, Apple has made the necessary adjustments to ensure that real-world usage does not suffer, but there are a number of steps you can take to preserve every last droplet of power before your beloved gadget ceases to function. Here, we discuss a number of key steps to saving battery, and even if you’re not running iOS 8, many of these hints will still help you out.
The tips below, while outlined with the iPhone in mind, are also applicable to the iPad and iPod touch, so no matter which device(s) you happen to own, there are several ways to keep them running for longer.

    Source and Manage Problem Apps

One of the great little quirks that Apple has added in recent times is the ability to check battery usage on a per-app basis. This means that you can see precisely which apps are hoarding your battery, and, from there, make any necessary adjustments.
To access this feature, fire up the Settings app and navigate through General > Usage > Battery Usage.
If you notice any apps there that you scarcely use, you may wish to consider deleting them. If you believe you’ll still need to use an app frequently, though, then simply close it down. That way, it will remain should you need to call upon it, but while it’s sitting idly, it won’t dredge any power that could spared.
Keep Notification Center Widgets To A Minimum

One particular feature that we really appreciate here at WCCFTech is the ability to download and install third-party NC widgets. They’re infinitely enriching to the iOS experience in general, but once again, too many can prove detrimental to battery retention.
We’re not here to discourage you from using them, by any means, but if you keep too many in your Today view, there are obviously going to be trade-offs.
If you feel as though you could sacrifice one or even a few widgets, then the Edit button can be found at the foot of the Today menu. From there, you can easily disable widgets that aren’t so pivotal, and hopefully, enjoy a device that keeps running for longer before charge.
    Turn off Parallax

Sure, Parallax isn’t an entirely new implementation on Apple’s part, but whilst it has given iOS a degree of animation since iOS 7, it’s also yet another feature that will eke away your iPhone battery.

The thing about Parallax that seems to irk some folk is that, well, it’s not entirely necessary, and if you happen to subscribe to this notion, then we’d highly recommend you disable it and forget that it exists.
If you think a moving wallpaper is a feature you could do without, go through to Settings > General > Accessibility, and toggle Reduce Motion to ON.

    Watch Your Brightness

Believe it or not, brightness plays a significant role in determining how much iPhone battery you’ll have left at the end of the day, if any. The auto-brightness feature touts itself as a battery saver, since it dims the display when you don’t need so much light, and gives it a glowing backdrop when you do.
However, this fluctuation of brightness could be spared if you simply adjusted manually, and for the most part, you’ll see that you can indeed survive on the lowest setting.
To tweak your brightness, head to Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness > Auto-Brightness. Disable the feature, and from there, try to stick with as low a brightness as your eyes can comfortably manage.
    Monitor Background App Refresh

It took a while for Apple to come through with a “true” multitasking experience, but as of iOS 7, Background App Refresh ensures that your apps continue running in the background, updated (or refreshed) via your connection.
Obviously, running more apps is going to use more battery, and as such, Background App Refresh is one feature that you’ll want to be disabling.

After heading over to Settings > General > Background App Refresh, you can shut Background App Refresh off entirely, although if you do wish to keep some essential apps running in the background, then you can also configure this setting on a per-app basis.
    Disable Wi-Fi

Not sure about you guys, but I make a habit of turning on Wi-Fi when at home, and then, when out and about, completely disabling it. If you keep it running when using your cellular connection, iOS will work in the background to find you a connectable hotspot, and whilst this is useful if you’re looking to save on cellular data, it’s not so helpful if you’re wanting to conserve battery.
Disabling Wi-Fi is as easy as throwing up the Control Center by swiping upwards from the bottom of your home screen, and tapping on the Wi-Fi icon.
    Configure Location Settings

This feature is an age-old adversary of those looking to retain iPhone battery life, and while GPS is integral to apps like Maps, you don’t always need your location to be tracked.
Disabling or managing apps using location data is a good habit to get into, no less because it encourages you to focus on the privacy aspect, and by rolling through Settings > Privacy > Location Services, you can either disable the feature entirely or grant permission only to those apps you want accessing GPS data.
Avoid iOS 8.2 For The Time Being

Apple has just rolled out iOS 8.2, but while it includes a multitude of interesting new features, it is also reportedly causing battery retention issues. It’s always tempting to jump straight on the bandwagon as soon as a new software update is released, but in this instance, your best bet is to wait for a further iOS 8.2.x build that remedies these apparent teething issues.
So, there goes our list of battery saving tips. We sure hope this helped you to keep your iDevice running longer than you’d thought possible, and if you follow most of these steps, you should see a noticeable jump both in retention and longevity.
Let us know which tips you’ll be taking on by dropping us a comment below!

HERE maps reaches iOS and offers offline map navigation

First being released solely to Windows OS, we've seen HERE maps now expand to the Android and iOS platforms.

As according to the HERE team, the old version of this app was based on HTML 5 and an unworthy product for general use, however, it has now been updated and completely redesigned.

Nokia Press Services has told us that HERE has already seen 4 million downloads of its Android version alongside being provided to users for free - making it a serious competitor for Apple's and Google's standard maps offerings.

There are over 150 countries available for their offline maps service, alongside public transport support for 950 cities in 50 countries and traffic information updates for those in France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and more.

New iOS update has nasty surprises

You get what you pay for
Apple’s iOS 8.2 update appears to have a couple of nasty surprises floating around the sweetness just waiting for fanboys to bite in.

The update is mostly about optimisations and bug fixes which means all those things that Apple did not get perfect the first time but no one ever mentioned it. However it seems that Apple still can’t get the hang of fixing things that matter and this update is no different. WiFried which is a bug that causes heavily degraded, and sometimes entirely broken, wireless performance has not been squashed by iOS 8.2. The fact that Apple cannot be bothered fixing this particular flaw is a testimony to how much it really loves its users.
WiFried has dedicated websites and a Google search turns up more than 70,000 results on the subject it also has the record for the single largest iOS thread on Apple’s official Support Communities forum. At the time of writing the thread has amassed 646,780 views and nearly 2,000 replies across 133 pages.
This is excluding of course the huge number of comments which Apple has deleted on the subject as part of its care for its users.
The bug started to be complained about on 20 September, just three days after iOS 8’s initial release. This means that Apple has released seven iOS 8 updates without fixing or acknowledging it. This is odd for a fault which stuffs up iPhone; iPad and iPod touch generations equally. Oh, and it also eats your battery.
The other thing that appeared in the update was a hardwired advert for the iWatch which cannot be installed. We mentioned this before, but it seems that Apple fanboys are actually freaking out about it.
iOS is already cluttered with shedloads of non-removable apps and owners of 8GB and 16GB iOS devices in particular are unhappy.

Public Beta For iOS 8.3 Introduced By Apple, iOS 8.3 beta 3 Seeded To Developers

iOS 9 days are closing in and Apple is really looking forward to move mountains in the new version, at least what Apple thinks it will. Before the iOS 9 release, iOS 8 has been going through some serious changes as well. The previous week, Apple officially released its iOS 8.2 which had some major changes made to it along with bug fixes and improvements. Thursday was the day when Apple changes its Apple Seed Website name to Apple Beta Software program. Its not just the name change but Apple now includes iOS to the program which previously denoted OS X alone.

Apple has now introduced iOS 8.3 public beta which can be downloaded by registering through your Apple ID. If it interests you much, you can download the iOS 8.3 beta and accept the agreement affiliated with Apple’s Beta Software Program Agreement in the signing process. So apart from the general news, there are certain measures you must consider before testing out the new iOS 8.3 public beta.

iOS 8.3 To Come With Apple Watch Application – Finally!

Apple strictly wants all users to back up their data before begin updating their iOS to the latest public release. You can do this by connecting your device to your computer and back up through iTunes. That wont be a problem i guess! The reason to save your data is due to the fact that you’re upgrading to an iOS version that is not finished yet and on any point, a mishap ma arise which would erase all your data. Once you have backed up your data, visit ”appleseed.apple.com/profile and download the configuration profile and install it.
If you want to get a shipping iOS version back on your device, Apple has unveiled just that too. You will have to wait for the final version of the testing build until it appears in the Software Update under the settings tab. By any chance you change your mind to go back to the previous shipping build of your iOS, delete the beta firmware and install the current version again and restore data from iTunes.

On the other hand, Apple also released the iOS 8.3 beta version to its developers for further testing. Some of the changes that might constitute the iOS 8.3 are alterations in the Messaging settings where Conversation List Filtering is now included. This states that you can divide your messages in a list under sent/from people on your contacts. Unknown messages can be reported and moved to junk messages if you desire. All the unnamed groups in your messages can now be named with members of that specific group instead just the Group. The major application addition to iOS 8.3 beta finally comes with an Apple Watch app which will support and enhance functionality. That’s all there is to the iOS 8.3 beta for now. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

iOS 8.3 Now Enables You To Initiate Phone Calls On Speakerphone With ‘Hey Siri’

The latest iOS 8.3 Beta version was seeded to developers as well as the general public, and a lot is expected from the release. Some of the anticipated features are known while some of them made their way to the dumpster. One such feature that caught our eye concerns ‘Hey Siri’ operations. Finally, the iOS 8.3 beta enables users to make phone calls on the speakerphone using Siri. This feature was long awaited and developers seemed to have been testing it for quite some time.

iOS 8.3 was handed to the developers for testing even before users had iOS 8.2 on their iOS devices. Even though testing the latest iOS 8.3 version goes on, Apple was eager enough to launch a public beta almost a week ago. With each new test release, new features are altering the existing ones as well as more is expected as time goes by. However, all additions in the iOS 8.3 are not obvious, even though it has been quite a while since the public beta release, only one such feature came to light to which we all ponder on.
iOS 8.3 Beta Lets You Make Speaker Phone Call On ‘Hey Siri’ Command

You may have noticed a strange fact if you have Siri activation via the ‘Hey Siri’ command when plugged in. The curious thing followed is the phone automatically choosing to put the call on a speakerphone which is something you will want while given the method you initiated Siri on the first hand. This however will be an important en route to use the iOS devices without handheld.

With all thanks to Apple’s recent iOS 8.3 beta release, Siri can now dial a speakerphone phone call if it is told to do so, as can be seen in the screenshots below. Now, it is logical and pretty handy because it wasn’t there on the first place. This is the reason why betas are released – to check on any illogical behavior in the operating system that might annoy the users.

Since Apple has not coined the release date of its new updated iOS, we still have no clue how many more betas would it require for a perfected launch. No matter how many they are, we will let your insights be satisfied with every new release. All we can speculate now is iOS 8.3 supports emoji, signing into Google account for two factor authentication and Carplay have been ehanced and improved. Comment your thoughts below regarding the iOS 8.3 beta.

iOS 8.3 Embraces Settings To Download Free iTunes Content And Apps Without Password

A reader spotted new configuration preferences for entering password in the iOS 8.3 to download free apps and iTunes content. The new preference to enter password are labelled as ‘Password Settings’ which tends to let users set a time for how frequently should Apple ask for password in iTunes Store and other purchases. It also allows users to download free apps without password, so it wont be necessary to put a password if your credentials remains undisturbed.

Among many, the first option refer users to either necessitate a password immediately or a 15 minutes expiration time. Under the restrictions settings, this option was already available in the previous iOS versions. However, the ‘Require Password’ toggle situated at the bottom is new. Its responsible for users to enable to download free apps without a password. While paid content, either through iTunes or App Store still requires authentication.
iOS 8.3 Will Enable Users Download Free Apps And Content Without Password

The settings exist in the iOS 8.3 betas but has been deactivated for now, it will be activated on the final release of the iOS. The password settings are anew and discovered recently which are added ti the iOS 8.3 beta cycle. It is partially since the feature is unveiled to the user when the Touch ID is disabled, settings would not show up if it is enabled. This is because Apple takes half of the precautions for you – if you have it enabled, Apple thinks the security for convenience is low enough as buying applications and other content is already continuous with a single tap on the Touch ID.

Previously, the free content never required a password and reverting this command clearly made many of the users upset. With the release of iOS 8.3, Apple compromised to users of their preferences instead of their own. So typing a password every time you download music, book, application, movie or any sort of content is not necessary anymore.
One thing to note is that the option of requiring password is not available world wide but selected regions have them. It means that the require password feature is knotted to the iTunes servers. This issue will most probably be resolved when iOS 8.3 will be officially released. This will be all for now, folks. Do comment how you feel about this feature?

Apple Releases iOS 8.3 Beta 4 To Developers

Apple has just released iOS 8.3 beta 4 to developers. The upcoming software, which includes Apple Pay support for China as well as some improvements to emoji customization, has been in the works for a while now, and with beta 4, Apple has included a number of bug fixes and other improvements.

Smaller software updates from Apple tend to arrive without any beta releases, but since iOS 8.3 offers a broad selection of features, it’s only logical that several betas would emerge before the general public gets to grips with it. iOS 8.3 has been in beta since before the drop of iOS 8.2 a short while ago, and while this may be the last beta we see before the end-user launch, it seems more likely that this will not be the case.
As we alluded to earlier, iOS 8.3 is a substantial jump from the present iOS 8.2, and accompanying the emoji tweaks and Apple Pay in China, Apple is also including two-step verification for Google Apps. Moreover, iOS 8.3 will offer wireless CarPlay support, which fits in nicely with the company’s rampant effort to dispel wires wherever the opportunity presents itself. Right now, CarPlay requires the intervention of the Lightning connector, but once iOS 8.3 loses its beta label, this will no longer be necessary.
If you are a registered developer, you can pick up iOS 8.3 beta 4 from the iOS Developer Center, or alternatively, by using the software update feature within iOS to install over-the-air. We’d always recommend installing through iTunes if possible, but either way should do the trick.

The release notes for iOS 8.3 beta 4 (build number 12F5061) are relatively vague on the details front, but in good time, we should know more in terms of specifics. In the meantime, we would encourage anybody interested in learning of iOS’s future improvements to download it right now, and provided your device is capable of running iOS 8, you’re good to go.
The Apple Beta Software Program makes it easy for non-developers to test this and other betas out, and if you do wish to partake, head over to the Appleseed website, which can be found by clicking here. Once you’ve signed up using your Apple ID, getting started is very straightforward, just follow the instructions as you go along, and in no time, you’ll have iOS 8.3 beta 4 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Given that it is a beta, you mustn’t take for granted that all of the features will work, and if you’re not happy to deal with any hiccups in terms of functionality, then you may wish to hold off for now and wait for iOS 8.3 to reach GM.
With the issues that have plagued many iOS 8.2 users, we’re definitely hoping that iOS 8.3 reaches us in good time, and hopefully, it won’t be as bug-ridden as the current public build.

iOS 8.3 – Expected Changes in Siri and App Downloads

It’s been over two weeks since Apple released iOS 8.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Cupertino tech giant has since released four beta versions of iOS 8.3 as well hinting that the final public iOS 8.3 update wouldn’t take too long to hit our iDevices. iOS 8.2 came with a long list of changelog, however, it isn’t free of the typical bugs too. Upcoming iOS 8.3 will definitely be fixing these issues but will also bring in some new minor features.
iOS 8.3 is expected to bring in a couple of additional improvements including Siri for Speakerphone and some password settings for iTunes. Here are the details.
    iOS 8.3 expected changelog:

Along with introducing new Emoji keyboard with diverse variants, wireless CarPlay, and additional Siri languages, iOS 8.3 will also include some settings for app downloads and Siri. One such minor – but very useful – change is in Siri. Siri made things pretty easier for people to use phone while driving. However, you still had to touch the speakerphone icon to get things started. From iOS 8.3 onward, you can directly ask Siri to call your friend without taking your hands off the steering wheel.
Another such ease offered by iOS 8.3 is reported to be in the apps downloads settings. While downloading free apps, you would no longer be forced to enter your password. The toggle however is in your hands – you can enable this from Settings > iTunes & App Store > Password Settings > enable / disable Require Password.

It was also reported by 9to5mac that added Password Settings will also be offered with iTunes:
iOS 8.3 includes some new configuration options for password entry in the iTunes and App Store. Labelled as ‘Password Settings’, the new view allows users to configure how frequently Apple should ask for the user’s iTunes Store password for purchases.
So are you excited for the upcoming iOS 8.3 update? We agree these aren’t any big changes but we certainly appreciate these small things making our lives a tiny bit easier.

Apple Music App Receives Fresh Coat Of Paint In iOS 8.4 Beta

If you like to rock out with your iPhone out (or any other iOS device), get ready for a visual change to your Music app when iOS 8.4 arrives. It's already out in the wild in beta form, and those who've played with the next version of Apple's mobile operating system note that the Cupertino outfit overhauled the Music app, both in terms of form and function.

Apple describes the facelift as a "beautiful new design" in its release notes, adding that it's designed in a way that's supposed to make exploring your music collection easier and more fun. One way to do that is by personalizing your playlists by adding your own image and description. You can also see pictures of artists in the Artists view.

It's a pretty massive redesign with several new features and tweaks, including a new MiniPlayer. Using the MiniPlayer, music lovers can see what's playing and control playback while browsing their collection of tunes. If you want to open Now Playing, you can just tap on the MiniPlayer.

Speaking of which, Now Playing has been overhauled, too. It has a "stunning new design" that focuses on your album's artwork. You can also start wirelessly streaming your music using AirPlay without leaving Now Playing.

Some of the other feature additions and tweaks you can expect include a global search function (search from anywhere in the Music app), and Up Next icon that when tapped will show you what's on tap, and more.

Apple to Show “the future of iOS and OS X” at WWDC 2015; Bans Selfie Sticks at the Event

Apple has just announced its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco from June 8 to June 12 this year. The highlight of the event so far? No selfie sticks allowed!

WWDC 2015 set to show “future of iOS and OS X”:

Cupertino never like to downplay and this year too the company is promising to be the “epicenter of change”. WWDC will be held at Moscone West Center and will be live streamed for developers who are unable to get to the event.
If you are a developer and interested to try your luck at WWDC 2015, you can apply for tickets starting today. Applications close on Friday and developers will be selected completely randomly like the previous year. Tickets cost for $1,599; there are 350 scholarships available for student developers and participating STEM members.
Apple is believed to unveil iOS 9, a new version of OS X, Apple Watch SDK, and a new Apple TV at the event. While the reports have claimed that upcoming versions of iOS and OS X will claim on stability and performance rather than new features, we still can’t wait to see the new things coming with the operating systems.

At WWDC, Apple’s renowned developer community will come together to learn about the future of iOS and OS X, helping them continue to create the most innovative apps in the world. WWDC will feature more than 100 technical sessions, over 1,000 Apple engineers, hands-on labs to help developers integrate new technologies and fine tune their apps, as well as the Apple Design Awards which showcase the best new apps in the last year.
We’ve got incredible new technologies for iOS and OS X to share with developers at WWDC and around the world.
Coming on one of the interesting parts of the event, Apple is apparently not happy with the craze of selfie sticks and has banned them inside the center. Uh oh!
