Long-time rivals IBM and Apple join forces to sell MacBooks

Once considered nemeses in the early days of computers, tech giants IBM and Apple recently decided to set aside their differences in a historically contradictory partnership. The relationship between the two is much different now than it was in the 1980s. If you visited Apple's campus in Cupertino, California today, you might be greeted by over 100 IBM employees found working on forthcoming iOS apps for IBM clientele -- Citigroup, Sprint, and others.
But Apple isn't the only company undergoing transformation. IBM provides employment to over 380,000 people, over half of which are now using MacBooks, meaning IBM is on its way to becoming the world's largest corporation to collectively make use of Apple's laptop computers.
Now rivaled by the contemporary culture of smaller startup companies in Silicon Valley, IBM is tasked with using its self-described "innovation" and massive scale "to turn culture into a competitive advantage,” IBM CIO Jeff Smith told WSJ. Partnering with Apple, he believes, may be the answer.
The times have changed, and the name IBM bears far less meaning today than it did 30 years ago. In fact, the company's revenue has been on an incessant decline for the past 13 quarters. As a result, IBM has decided to stress data analytics, security, as well as mobile and cloud computing over traditional hardware sales.

Likewise, IBM is making an effort to attain relevance once again by partnering with more pertinent tech companies, namely Apple, Twitter, and Facebook. Smith suggests these companies offer IBM "an aspiration to do do something quite special, but leverage what we're strong at."
While it's too premature to tell if these partnerships appear to be benefiting IBM, providing its customers and employees with computing tools considered the standard by the rest of Silicon Valley is unquestionably a safe place for IBM to begin its reformation.
Seeing as it was only three years ago that IBM restricted the internal use of Siri over security concerns, its employees were ecstatic, and presumably shocked, about the announcement that 185,000 IBM workers would be equipped with MacBooks.
The app development partnership between IBM and Apple was revealed back in July 2014. 43,000 iPads were sent to its sales force, with current support for over 110,000 iPads, iPhones, and MacBooks in total. Smith estimates that IBM will manage 50,000 MacBooks by the year's end, with that number expected to eventually multiply by four.
Moving forward from that collaborative effort, IBM's newfound rapport with Apple was conceived to aid its customers in distributing thousands of Mac computers. Last fall, Workplace as a Service VP Fletcher Previn was sent to Apple's HQ for a week to observe how Apple prepares its own employees to begin using Macs. Thanks to this experience, IBM can now coach its own employees on OS X, with instruction straight from the horse's mouth.

How To Completely Remove A Mac App And All Of Its Settings

Here’s how you can completely remove a Mac app on OS X along with all of its saved settings and preferences. Once done, you’ll be left with no leftover app residue, settings whatsoever.

Whenever we delete an app from OS X, we’re left under the impression that everything goes to trash with it. But that’s strictly not the case. Whenever you delete an app, some of its files and settings get left behind. For example, if you delete the Mozilla Firefox browser, your cache and history files are left over in your hard drive, which in turn takes up space. And if you want to get rid of those files, then there are two routes you can take, and we’ll explain each one. But first, we’ll show you how to delete an app on OS X.
    Removing A Mac App

There are two ways you can remove a Mac app, either from the Launchpad or directly from the Applications folder. If you’re taking the Launchpad route, then you need to perform the following steps.
    1. Open Launchpad.
    2. Now look for the app you wish to remove. Click and hold on it till the icon starts jiggling.
    3. You’ll see a little ‘x’ icon on the corner. Click on it, and confirm your action for deleting the app.

You might notice that there are some apps which can’t be deleted by the above mentioned method. In that case, you will need to go to the Applications folder and delete an app from there. Here’s how it’s done.
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Click on the ‘Applications’ in the side bar.

    3. Now hunt for the app you want to delete and simply drag it to the trashcan in your OS X Dock.

Removing Settings And Preferences Of A Deleted App

    1. First and foremost, open up Finder.
    2. Now press the CMD + Shift + G key combination to bring up the ‘Go to the folder’ popup.
There are two locations where you’ll find leftover files from a deleted app. Go to each one and delete all corresponding files pertaining to the deleted app.
    /Library/Application Support
    /Library/Caches

Removing Settings And Preferences The Easy Way

Find the above method a little cumbersome. Don’t panic, there are apps on the Mac App Store that let you achieve the same thing quickly and easily. One such offering goes by the name of ‘App Cleaner,’ and is an absolutely free download. You can grab the app from here.

App Cleaner even lets you reset an app to its default state, saving you the time of uninstalling it and reinstalling it all over again.

How To Prioritize WiFi Networks On Mac OS X

Here’s how you can prioritize WiFi networks on OS X, making clear which wireless hotspot your Mac connects to first.

In our daily lives, we connect to a number of WiFi networks on our phones, tablets or notebooks. And as we keep on connecting to different hotspots, a database of said networks starts to accumulate in the background, so that your device remembers when to connect to a hotspot whenever it’s in range. Interestingly, on a Mac, you can clearly define which WiFi network your notebook / desktop should connect to first, and for some reason if it fails, it will automatically connect to the next one and so forth. The process is fairly easy to go through and we’ll help you out using a complete step-by-step guide.
Prioritize WiFi Networks On Mac OS X

    1. Click on the WiFi option in the menu bar at the top of the display.
    2. Now click on ‘Open Network Preferences’ in the list of available options.

    3. A new window will open up. Over here, click on the ‘Advanced’ button. Refer to the screenshot below for clarification.

    4. Under the ‘Preferred Networks’ section, there’s a list of WiFi networks which you have connected to in the past. The list is prioritized, which means that the networks at top get more preference than the ones below. Simply drag the network(s) you wish to give priority to at the top and click on the ‘Ok’ button to confirm your changes. You can even delete or add networks in this list if you want by clicking on the ‘-‘ or ‘+’ buttons, respectively.

Whenever you go to a workspace where there are a number of WiFi networks, the highest priority one will connect first, making sure that you don’t go through the hectic routine of changing networks manually just because OS X went for a seemingly ‘random’ one.
There are a ton of small things littered across OS X that can make life easier, with the above mentioned tip being one of them. We highly encourage our readers to make use of such tidbits to make their workflow even better than before, which in turn boosts productivity and gets frustration right out of the way.
If you found this little tip useful, then don’t forget to let us know about it in the comments section below. And of course, we’ll bring you more gems like these in the days to come, so stay tuned.

Find WiFi Network Password Using Your Mac – How To

Here’s how you can find a WiFi network password using just your Mac. This tip is absolutely simple to follow and even the novice of users can try it out right away.

We all know that one person who won’t share their WiFi network password with us, thinking that we might end up connecting a whole host of devices to their hotspot, clogging up the network altogether. And the cringing part about that person is; they would prefer to enter the password on our notebook, smartphone or tablet themselves, so things are kept as secret as possible. Well, if you have a Mac, then you can find out the WiFi network password rather easily if you’re connected to the hotspot, or have connected to it at least once.
Find WiFi Network Password Using Your Mac

    1. First and foremost, launch Terminal. You can either launch it via Finder, or using Spotlight and doing a search for ‘Terminal.’ It’s completely your call which route you wish to take as long as the end result is the launch of Terminal.
    2. Type in the following command in Terminal:
security find-generic-password -ga “WiFiNAME” | grep “password:”
Replace “WiFiNAME” with the name of the WiFi network you wish to find the password of. Once everything’s set, hit the ‘return’ key on your Mac’s keyboard.

    3. You’ll be prompted to enter your Mac’s administrator username and password. Fill in the boxes and then click on ‘Allow’ to proceed.
    4. You’ll now be presented with the WiFi network’s password in plain, human readable text right inside Terminal.
Whether your friend tells you their WiFi network password or not, you now have a way to find it out for yourself as long as you have a Mac and know your way around Terminal.
By now you might’ve guessed already that this technique only works as long as you’ve connected to a secure WiFi connection at least once, and you’ve hit the ‘Remember This Network’ checkbox before hitting ‘Ok.’ So basically, you cannot perform this trick on a network which you haven’t connected to at all, so be sure to keep that in mind before pulling this trick off in front of your friends of family members.
While we’re on the topic of WiFi, be sure to check out: How To Prioritize WiFi Networks On Mac OS X.
If you found this tip absolutely useful, then don’t forget to let us know about it in the comments section below.

How To Reset iMac, MacBook, Mac Pro SMC (System Management Controller)

Here’s how you can reset the Mac system management controller (SMC) and troubleshoot certain issues on your computer.

Before we get started with the guide itself on how to reset the SMC, it should be made clear what it actually is and when you should perform the reset.
    What Is SMC

If you have an Intel based Mac, then there’s a small SMC (system management controller) chip on the logic board that controls some physical parts on your computer. These things include the cooling fan, LED indicators, power buttons etc. It has other roles too, such as how your hard drive works, what happens when you put your Mac in sleep mode and much more.
    When To Reset SMC

You’ll know it’s time to reset the SMC chip when certain things start to behave strangely on your Mac. For example, the cooling fan might not slow down although there’s lack of activity on the CPU, or the trackpad refuses to work all of a sudden. There are countless things that can go wrong and you should go for a reset when all of the basic troubleshooting methods, such as restarting a Mac, fails to do any good.
As outlined by Apple itself in one of its support documents:

How To Reset SMC On A Mac

The procedure for resetting the SMC chip depends completely on the type of Mac you own, and we’ll walk you through each one.
    MacBook (with non-removable battery)
    1. Completely power down the Mac.
    2. Plug in the power adapter.
    3. Now press the following key combinations: Shift-Control-Option and the power button. Make sure you perform this combination on the left hand side of the keyboard.
    4. Release all the keys, including the power button.

    5. Turn on your Mac as you normally would using the power button.
    MacBook (with removable battery)
    1. Completely power down your Mac, remove the battery and make sure the power adapter is not connected.
    2. Press down the power button for five seconds and let go.
    3. Insert the battery back to its place and plug in the power adapter and turn on your MacBook.
    iMac, MacPro, Mac mini, Xserve
    1. Completely power down your Mac and remove the power cable.
    2. Now unplug the power chord and wait fifteen seconds before you plug it back in again.
    3. Wait five seconds more before you press the power button to turn on your Mac.
Resetting the SMC chip is easy, but keep in mind: resort for the reset when all basic troubleshooting methods have failed.
    You’ve been warned.

Internet Not Working After Waking Up Your Mac? Try This Fix

Here’s how you can fix the Internet not working issue after waking up your Mac from sleep. There is one potential fix for users, as well as a quick workaround for the problem.

    The Issue

The issue is a rather plain and simple one, and one that makes you execute a brilliant facepalm once you come across it. It goes like this: you put your Mac to sleep, and once you wake it up after a few minutes or hours, Internet connectivity is absolutely dead. Even with WiFi connected, things don’t move a muscle. Interestingly, the issue doesn’t arise if you’re connected using Ethernet.
    Temporary Workaround

    1. Click on the WiFi logo in the Mac menu bar and then click on ‘Open Network Preferences.’

    2. In the resulting new window, click on ‘Advanced.’

    3. Now click on ‘TCP/IP’ up top and then click on ‘Renew DHCP Lease.’

    4. Click on ‘Ok’ to save the changes.
You’ll notice that your Internet will start working, but it’s a temporary fix and the issue can arise again if you put your Mac to sleep and wake it up again.
Fix Internet Not Working Issue After Waking Your Mac Up From Sleep

Read through the steps first before trying it out yourself.
    1. Open ‘System Preferences’ on your Mac.
    2. Click on the ‘Network’ option.

    3. On top your should see an option labelled ‘Location.’ Click on it and then click on ‘Edit Locations.’

    4. Click on the ‘+’ sign to add a new location and name it anything you want. Click on ‘Done.’

    5. Click on ‘Location’ again and make sure you select the newly created location.
    6. Now click on the cogwheel button and then select ‘Set Service Order.’

    7. Drag the network to the top which you want to connect to first. If you rely on WiFi then move it to the top, and if on Ethernet, do the same. Click on ‘Ok’ once you’re done.

    8. Click on the ‘Apply’ button to save changes.
Your Internet related issues after waking up your Mac from sleep should now be resolved. If the problem still persists, then there might be a possibility that you might have damaged hardware, and we recommend that you take your Mac down to an Apple Store to get things fixed officially. But if you’re certain that it’s a software related hitch, then be sure to follow the above steps before reaching any sort of conclusions.
Did the above fix work for you? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.

How To Speed Up Your Mac Instantly

Here’s how you can speed up your Mac instantly with a simple flick of an option in OS X.

OS X is designed in such a way that it even runs great on older hardware. But if you have a Mac that is on the verge of being tossed into a museum, then you might have a problem related to how OS X performs on your machine. Performance takes a nosedive especially when there’s a lot on the display to render, and with OS X Yosemite, Apple introduced translucency effects to make the UI feel more frosted and modern looking. Those very same effects can kick your Mac on the shin, and if you turn them off, you’ll experience an instant boost in performance system-wide.
    Speed Up Your Mac Instantly

    1. Open ‘System Preferences.’
    2. Click on ‘Accessibility’ in the list of available options.

    3. Click on ‘Reduce Transparency’ to enable it.

You’ll notice that those fancy looking translucency effects are now gone, but in return, your Mac performs way better than before.
Apps like iTunes, Messages and Safari will feel more responsive here on in. But on the negative side, UI elements will look a little bland. But hey, if you have an older Mac at hand, then you should be proud of what you’ve managed to achieve today without having to dish out hundreds of dollars for an upgrade.
With every release of OS X, Apple is pushing hard to make sure that older Macs are supported right off the bat, and that users aren’t left out when it comes to receiving the latest updates from Cupertino. OS X El Capitan for example, is extremely light on resources and runs lightning fast even in its current beta form. If you have an old Mac lying around, then the chances are high that you’ll be able to run El Capitan, but will definitely face performance related issues in some corners, and that’s something which Apple can’t fix either as it moves swiftly into the future of hardware and software. The only way around it is by using small workarounds, such as the one which we have listed above.
Did the above trick improve your Mac’s performance? Then sound away in the comments section below.
If you’re on iPhone or iPad user, then you can give your devices a boost treatment too. Simply follow our guide posted here: Speed Up iPhone, iPad Instantly Using This Simple Trick.

Get Trackpad Gestures in Windows 10 for Your MacBook – Windows 10 Tricks

Apple updated Boot Camp app to bring support for Windows 10 officially. We had already shared with you two ways to install and use Windows 10 on your Macs but it’s always good to get official support. With this latest support, more OS X users are expected to download and install Windows 10 on their MacBook. Once you are on Windows 10, it would be one awesome treat to get gesture support in Windows that Microsoft offered for devices with Precision Keyboards. Here is how you can bring trackpad gestures in Windows 10 on Mac.
Recommended: New Windows 10 Activation Rules – All You Need to Know

Enable Windows 10 trackpad gestures on Mac:

You can get some free third-party apps to enable gesture controls in Windows 10 on Mac. Trackpad++ along with Power Plan System (only required for 64-bit systems) help bring gesture support in Windows enabling your trackpad with more controls. While Trackpad++ is the app actually responsible for the task, Power Plan Assistant essentially helps it install, overriding Microsoft’s digital signature enforcement policy. Following is the guide to enable gesture controls in Windows 10 on Mac.
Required files: Download Power Plan Assistant and Trackpad++

    • Double click on Trackpad++ to install the app.
    • You will receive a warning; click on More Info and check on I understand the risk… and click on Run Anyway.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions and allow the app to override Microsoft’s digital enforcement policy.
    • Drivers will install now, after which you will be asked to agree to Boot Camp modifications.
    • Reboot your Mac.
    • Next, double-click on Trackpad++ again followed by clicking on the More Info > Run Anyway.
    • Begin installation > finish it and click Yes to install the drivers.
    • On the next screen, click on Install this driver software anyway.
    • Click on OK when completed.

You will now notice Trackpad++ in the lower-right corner of your task bar. Double-click it to configure the features that you want to try.

Note: The app seems to be a pretty old and a trusted effort that is constantly kept updated. While there doesn’t appear to be any security concern, always proceed with caution when it comes to third-party apps. According to the developer, you will have to update Trackpad++ weekly.
[Trackpad++] requires mandatory weekly update. If the week has passed and Trackpad++ Control Module was not updated, Trackpad++ driver will be using the Boot Camp driver settings, unless the Trackpad++ Control Module is updated.

Restore Deleted Files, Contacts, Calendars On iCloud – How To

Here’s how you can restore deleted files, contacts, calendars, reminders using iCloud. If you accidentally deleted something, then follow the steps we’ve outlined here to recover everything in one fell swoop.

Apple has today rolled out a new feature for iCloud users on the Web that allows anyone to recover their deleted files in a snap. The feature is hidden from plain view, and we’ll guide our users on how to access it and subsequently recover files.
Restore Deleted Files, Contacts, Calendars On iCloud

    1. Using your Web browser on your computer, open icloud.com.
    2. Enter your iCloud credentials when prompted and hit the ‘return / enter’ key on your keyboard.

    3. Click on your name in the top right hand corner and then click on ‘iCloud Settings.’

    4. Scroll all the way down in iCloud Settings and you’ll see a section labelled ‘Advanced.’
    5. Here you’ll see options labelled ‘Restore Files,’ ‘Restore Contacts,’ and ‘Restore Calendars and Reminders.’ Click on either one which you wish to restore.

    6. Select the files you want to restore. You can even select multiple files as well. Click on the ‘Restore’ button once you’ve made your choices.

    7. You’ll see a ‘Restore Complete’ prompt on the display confirming that your selected files(s) have been restored.
It’s great to see that Apple has finally implemented this feature as it can go a long way for those who accidentally end up deleting their files from iCloud without any sort of knowledge. Furthermore, recovering contacts is a huge deal maker here for every user out there. We really wish this feature was there from day one since iCloud made its big debut, but there you have it, it’s now here and every user can make use of it to their heart’s desire.
iCloud is a great way to create a backup of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and can save you from a lot of trouble from losing everything altogether. If you’re an iOS user, then we recommend that you go to Settings > iCloud > Backup and turn the ‘iCloud Backup’ switch to the ON position. Once you’re done, your iOS device will create a backup of everything on Apple’s servers when your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is plugged into a power source.
If you ever lose your device for any reason, then you can simply restore everything from iCloud when you’re setting up your new device. Your photos, contacts, calendars, reminds and files will be back as they were when you created the backup.
It’s better to be safe than sorry, folks.

These sixth-generation Core M processors are most likely going to launch next month and are going to be showcased during the IFA Berlin trade show that is going to be held from September 4-9. Just like before, we expect Apple to adopt a very thin form factor for its upcoming notebooks, giving preference to portability rather than raw processing firepower and bulkiness of a notebook. However this time, it would be great to see some additional connectivity buttons ranging from USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, along with some display connectors for extra flexibility.
Hopefully, Apple will not let us down in this particular department.

Future MacBooks Will Be Able To Stay Powered On For ‘Days Or Even Weeks,’ Here’s Why

According to a newly filed patent by Apple, the company is looking to integrate a fuel cell system into future MacBooks that could potentially keep the device powered on for days or even weeks.

Battery life has always been a cause of concern for a lot of users around the globe. Be it on a smartphone, tablet, notebook or even just a TV remote, it’s something which we can’t get our mind away from, because deep down inside we secretly know that the battery will eventually give up the ghost, leaving us absolutely stranded in between what we were doing.
A MacBook That Can Stay Powered On For Up To A Week? Where Do We Sign Up!

But all of that could change drastically on the notebook part of the story, as Apple has recently filed for a patent, in which it states that the company wants to power future MacBooks using fuel cells. This would, in theory at least, allow a MacBook to stay powered on for days, or even weeks, if we’re lucky enough.
Interestingly, the patent was filed right after it was revealed that a British company was able to toss in a Hydrogen fuel cell inside an iPhone 6, and said company was working in close proximity with Apple.
    According to the patent filing:

The fuel source comprises at least one of: sodium borohydride and water; sodium silicate and water; lithium hydride and water; magnesium hydride and water; lithium borohydride and water; lithium aluminum hydride and water; aluminum hydride; an amine borane complex; a hydrocarbon; lithium aluminum hydride; magnesium borohydride; a magnesium borohydride-amine complex; compressed hydrogen gas; and liquid hydrogen.
While the patent sounds way too good to be true, but keep one thing in mind – it’s a patent filing from Apple, and the company has a whole stockpile of them which never turn into an actual product. Apple usually files such patents to protect an idea, nothing more, nothing less. So it’s highly likely that today’s patent might never see the light of day in the real world, until or unless Apple is absolutely serious regarding improving battery life on its devices.

While the patent (apparently) looks as though it’s meant for a notebook, or more specifically, a MacBook, there’s no reason for us to believe that the tech won’t make it to other devices as well, such as an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. But still, we’d rather wait to see if Apple would turn this idea into a reality or keep it in its patent phase for eternity.

How To Get iPhone Charging Chime Sound On MacBook

Want that iPhone chime sound on your MacBook when you plug it in to charge? Here’s how you can get it in a few and simple steps.

Whenever you plug in your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a wall charger, the device confirms that it has begun to charge by giving the owner an audible notification in the form of a chime. But on a MacBook, things are a little stale, until or unless you’re in the ownership of Cupertino’s 12-inch Retina MacBook, only then you’ll hear a chime when you plug in your notebook to a wall adapter. But if you want that chime sound on any MacBook, then all you need is to be running OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite or above on your Apple branded notebook.
How To Get iPhone Charging Chime Sound On MacBook

    1. Launch the Terminal app on your Mac. You can do so quickly by using Spotlight search (Command + Space) and then typing in ‘Terminal.’ Also disconnect your MacBook from the power adapter.
    2. With Terminal up and running, type in the following command:
defaults write com.apple.PowerChime ChimeOnAllHardware -bool true; open /System/Library/CoreServices/PowerChime.app
    3. Plug in your wall charger and you’ll hear the chime sound.
Want to remove the chime sound effect? Then simply type in the following in Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.PowerChime ChimeOnAllHardware -bool false; killall PowerChime
You don’t need to restart your Mac or anything once you’ve applied the changes.
Easy wasn’t it? And the cool part is that the chime sound effect works in OS X 10.11 El Capitan beta as well, so you can rest assured that you won’t be left out of the game even later if you plan on updating your Mac.
While the chime effect doesn’t really have any functional benefit to the user, it’s a great way to get an audible confirmation that your MacBook has indeed started to charge up. In short, it’s more or less a novelty feature, and something which many MacBook users are going to dig if they’re a huge fan of the whole thing on Cupertino’s iOS range of devices.
There are more tidbits like these scattered throughout OS X and we’ll bring them to our readers slowly and gradually, so hang in there tight.
Found this tip useful? Then do not forget to let us know about it in the comments section below.

Apple Taketh Away MacBook MagSafe Charging And Griffin Giveth Back With BreakSafe USB-C Cable

Apple's forward thinking approach to its 12-inch MacBook released in 2015 didn't include a bevy of ports -- just one, that being a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C connector (basically a USB 3.0 port with the new Type-C connector). Out of all the ports that went missing, perhaps the most missed was Apple's proprietary MagSafe connector. Enter Griffin to save the day with a handy adapter.

The neat thing about Apple's MagSafe connector is that it allowed the power cord to magnetically attach to the MacBook. If someone (or some animal, like a hyper canine charging through the house to see who's at the door) happened to trip over the power cord, it would detach without bringing the pricey system crashing to the floor.

To bring that convenience and peace of mind back to MacBook users, Griffin has come up with a Type-C adapter and accompanying BreakSafe magnetic USB cable.

"Apple’s MagSafe connector has saved literally millions of laptops from destruction caused by tripping over one’s power cord. But with the introduction of USB-C on new MacBooks, this safety feature is absent. BreakSafe brings the safety and convenience back to newer MacBooks and other laptops with USB-C type connectors," Griffin says.

"The quick-release magnetic connector (patent-pending) plugs into your laptop’s USB-C port and safely disconnects from the rest of the cable when under stress or strain, like tripping over the power cord," Griffin adds.

It's a small adapter that measures just 12.8 mm deep, about the size of a nano receiver, only thicker. Since it's so small, you can leave it plugged into your MacBook without it being an eyesore.

Griffin's BreakSafe accessory will be available "soon" for $40 MSRP.

Hate Selfie Sticks? Then Meet The MacBook Selfie Stick! – Photos

When the first batch of selfie sticks landed on our dear planet, we thought for a second that it might actually be a good idea for ‘personal’ photography. But quite frankly, we made a thoughtful u-turn when we realized that people are abusing selfie sticks more than using them. And to prove a point how ridiculous the entire idea of the selfie stick is, someone out there took the liberty and went the extra mile – or lightyear – and has managed to conjure up a MacBook selfie stick.

The MacBook Selfie Stick Invokes An Odd Cringe Inside Us

The contraption is exactly what you think it is – a selfie stick that is capable of cradling your MacBook so you can take a selfie. Crazy idea? We agree. But there’s good news as well – the whole thing is just an ‘art’ project, aiming to give a glimpse to the world how stupid things can get when ideas are let go from a leash.
Take a look at the photo gallery below and prepare yourself for some cringeworthy experience.

From the photos you can clearly see how passers-by are persuaded by will to actually stop and give the user of the MacBook selfie stick an eyebrow raised look. And quite honestly, I would be stoked too smithereens as well if I saw someone in front of me pulling off such a feat.

While it’s possible to build a MacBook selfie stick, but it should also be kept in mind that the MacBook is fairly heavy notebook. After all, we’re dealing with aluminum here, and holding the notebook up in the air using the selfie stick requires you to be using two hands, instead of one, unlike a smartphone selfie stick.
Although it’s a work of art with a purpose, but we’re quite certain that somewhere on planet will actually turn this into a shipping product. How do we know? Because that’s how such things work. And once the hype gets going, there’ll be no stopping this trend until or unless someone points out its ridiculousness in the most elaborate manner possible.
Please don’t make the MacBook selfie stick happen. Just, don’t.

MacBooks Mid-2013 Or Later Can Upgrade Their SSDs For A Much Cheaper Price

Upgrading MacBooks is a costly venture, but thanks to the Aura SSD, not only will you be able to give your MacBook a new speed boost, it will cost you far less compared to requesting Apple’s customer care to upgrade that SSD for you.

Aura’s PCIe Based SSDs Upgrade Your MacBooks’ Existing Storage, Making Them Much Faster In The Process

Before you read this, we want to make sure that your MacBook is qualified for a storage upgrade. Aura SSDs for Mid-2013 and Later MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina Display are compatible with Mac computers with the following model IDs:

    • MacBookPro11,1
    • MacBookPro11,2
    • MacBookPro11,3
    • MacBookPro11,4
    • MacBookPro11,5
    • MacBookPro12,1
    • MacBookAir6,1
    • MacBookAir6,2
    • MacBookAir7,1
    • MacBookAir7,2

The OWC Aura PCIe SSD uses the AHCI protocol and the latest generation of Retina MacBooks will be incompatible with these because they only provide support for NVMe based SSDs and keep in mind that they are not removable. In order to keep costs under control while providing a nice little speed bump to consumers, OWC has opted to not use a native PCIe SSD controller. Instead, the PCIe Aura SSD uses a Marvell 9230 SATA RAID controller and a pair of Silicon Motion SM2256 SATA SSD controllers.
The Marvell 9230 has a PCIe 2.0 x2 host interface, so at the end of the day, the PCIe Aura SSD will be able to outperform SATA SSDs, but will not be able to surpass the speed barrier created by other drives. According to the data present on the company’s website, the packaging will include the following:

    • Torx T5 driver
    • Pentalobe P5 driver
    • OWC Envoy Pro enclosure

Also keep in mind that you will need Mac OS X v10.8 or later, or Windows 7 or a later OS for the storage product to be compatible. As for the speeds, and protection, those details have been listed below:

    • Peak data rate: 763MB/s read and 446MB/s write
    • Incompressible data rate: 754MB/s Read and 425MB/s write

    Protection

    • Encryption: chip-based, 128-bit AES Compliant
    • Over-provisioning: 7 percent

    Dimensions

    • Height: 0.1 in (3.7 mm)
    • Width: 0.9 in (24 mm)
    • Length: 3.4 in (89 mm)

    Weight

    • 0.7 oz (21 grams)

As for the pricing, we said earlier that the OWC Aura PCIe SSDs upgrades are far cheaper compared to the Apple originals, and we meant every single word.
    480GB SSD

    • TRIM support: No
    • Price (drive only): $347.99
    • Price (drive with upgrade kit): $399.00

    960GB SSD

    • TRIM support: No
    • Price (drive only): $547.99
    • Price (drive with upgrade kit): $649.00

If you are interested in upgrading, then all you need to do is visit their ‘Where to Buy’ section where you will have a selection of authorized dealers selling both the drive and the upgrade kit. Tell us what you thought about the latest PCIe based SSD in the comments below.
