Nintendo's next-gen NX console will support Frostbite, UE4 and Unity

The release of Nintendo's next-gen console is still shrouded in secrecy, except for a few nuggets of information here and there. The latest, is that Nintendo NX will support Unreal Engine 4, Unity and the Frostbite engine.

This might not sound like much, but supporting the major game engines is a great thing for Nintendo, as it'll mean we'll see more games on NIntendo's next-gen console, that we currently see on the Xbox One and PS4. Normally game developers have to port games over to the Nintendo console out at the time - right now, that would be the Wii U - but with built-in support for the major game engines from Nintendo, this wouldn't be a problem.

Nintendo NX To Launch This Year With Zelda NX As Launch Window Title – Rumor

There’s very little we know about the next Nintendo console, currently known as Nintendo NX, and fans of the Japanese company are dying to know more about what’s in store for the future. Even though we probably won’t learn much more about the matter before E3, plenty of rumors on the new console have started circulating in the past few weeks, with yet another one surfacing online earlier today.

According to NintenGen, which has apparently obtained the info from a source that works for Nintendo, the Nintendo NX is going to be released this year, with Zelda NX as a launch window release, meaning that it could be available either at launch or close to it. Unfortunately, it’s not yet clear if the Nintendo NX is going to be a home console, a handheld or a hybrid one.
The source at Nintendo is not able to give details on exactly what the NX is but since Zelda is definitely on the system it heavily indicates that it is a home console. Further information of the Nintendo NX functionality, specs and the controller interface are still secrets that are very deeply hidden within Nintendo.
This source working for Nintendo has also shared more on what the company has in store for the rest of the year outside the Nintendo NX. Apparently, there are plenty of yet to be announced Nintendo 3DS games that will be released in the second half of the year, while only a single yet to be announced game will be released on Wii U, which is probably the rumored new entry of the Paper Mario series. According to the source, a Minecraft project featuring Nintendo IP is also in the works.
Key Wii U releases for 2016:
Coming very soon (new few months): A new Minecraft project featuring Nintendo IP (Nintendo characters), which could be a new title or simply add-on content, is coming to the Wii U (of course I speculate that it’s DLC for Minecraft Wii U Edition)
    Advertisements

April: StarFox Zero still on track to release

Summer: Mario and Sonic: Rio 2016

Second Half of 2016 has the second Wave of Nintendo Selects coming but only has 1 unannounced new Wii U game releasing besides: Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem and Zelda Wii U.
As with every other rumor from unnamed sources, this must be taken with a grain of salt, even with NintenGen stating that they have received visual proof of the source’s status. We’ll let you know more on the matter as things develop so stay tuned for all the latest news.

Developer “Guarantees Nintendo NX Won’t Have Third-Party Support”

Nintendo’s upcoming console codenamed, ‘NX’ is shrouded in secrecy, and no-one really knows what the latest device will entail. There are various rumours stemmed from patents which suggest the product will be a hybrid mobile/home console unit and create a brand new experience. Unfortunately, Nintendo’s previous effort, the Wii U, fared quite badly due to poor marketing and a lack of third-party support.
The Wii U branding confused consumers and made them believe it was an accessory for the original Wii. Furthermore, the console’s lacklustre power and strange launch date before the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 alienated third-party developers. It didn’t take long for key publishers including Ubisoft to discount the system because of the small user-base and terrible sales. This has been a major problem in the past few generations for Nintendo, as they rely too much on first party titles. While their IPs are incredible, the company cannot ignore third-party support for a prolonged period.
Despite this, it appears Nintendo hasn’t learnt anything from their mistakes, and could struggle to entice third-party developers to support the platform according to The Ori and the Blind Forest director, Thomas Mahler:
“This is actually THE singlest most annoying thing for every dev out there. We also talked to Nintendo and got absolutely nothing – I’ll never understand that. And just to be clear, it’s not just Nintendo, every hardware manufacturer is treating their devkits and their unreleased consoles like they’re the second coming and are insanely secretive about it to a stupid degree in todays time. It’s not even that the hardware isn’t finished (duh), but you could at least give me the goddamn specs, so we’d know what to build s**t for!”
“What’s needed to sell hardware is goddamn good software. With Nintendo not having any devkits out there at this point and probably even wanting to sell it in 2016, I can already guarantee that they’ll just not have any software support, since nobody can just jumble games together in less than a year. I mean, you can, but it’ll be garbage.”
“The same is true for Engine Support – Get Unity and Epic to support these consoles WAAAAY ahead of release. By the time the console launches, it should be EASY for developers to develop games for these systems, things shouldn’t just only start at this point. I want the goddamn devkits or at least proper hardware specs ideally 2 years before release – Keep all the developers updated, start a forum where devs can chat and figure out all the problems everyone’s having, instead of everyone just having to deal with it. None of that’s happening anywhere and it’s just braindamaged.”
If this is the case, Nintendo really doesn’t understand the current market, and cannot rely on their first party games forever. There will be a point when dedicated Nintendo fans begrudge the lack of third-party games and need to purchase another console to access other titles. Clearly, this might not be true and an example of a developer venting frustrations online. However, it doesn’t look good, and raises questions about Nintendo’s management.

Nintendo NX To Receive High Profile Port From A Big Third Party Developer – Rumor

There have been plenty of rumors circulating on the yet to be unveiled new Nintendo console, currently known as Nintendo NX, despite Nintendo trying to keep its details secret. Recently, yet another rumor on some of the games currently in development for the console has surfaced online.

According to NeoGAF forum member AmaterasuOni, one big third party developer is porting a huge game to Nintendo NX at the moment. This user has apparently participated in a closed beta for this game.
I already know that one big 3rd party dev is porting a huge game for NX at the moment. I was in the closed beta of this game and the partnership was kind of spilled out by a mod.
    Advertisements

NDA, so no sugar, sorry. But just letting the Nintendo fans know that they’re going to get some good 3rd party love on their new console.
As the rumor comes from anonymous source, we must take it with a grain of salt until an official announcement comes in. However the source has been verified by one of the NeoGAF moderators, so there may be some truth in what has been revealed by AmaterasuOni.
Last week, we have reported that the Nintendo NX is apparently going to be released later this year, with Zelda NX as a launch window title. Details on the console’s functionality, specs and controller interface are still secrets that are apparently deeply hidden within Nintendo, according to the source. Last week, it’s also been revealed that Nintendo is going to release a yet to be announced Wii U game, which is probably a new entry of the Paper Mario series developed by Intelligent Systems, alongside the already confirmed titles for the year such as Star Fox Zero and Genei Ibun Roku #FE. Like today’s rumor, this one also comes from an anonymous source, so take it for what it is.
If the Nintendo NX is indeed getting released later this year as rumors indicate, we will surely learn more about the console in the near future. We’ll keep you updated on it as soon as possible so stay tuned for all the latest news.

Ori and the Blind Forest dev says Nintendo too secretive over NX

Nintendo has a great opportunity in front of them to leap head-first into the market, delighting with their upcoming console with a lineup of games that show just why they should be chosen over all others. The secrecy around their new console, even among developers, might hurt Nintendo's chance at making the substantial wave their business needs.

The CEO of Moon Studios, the developer of Ori and the Blind Forest, sees the folly in keeping their plans so secretive and said as much on NeoGaf. He was very critical of all console makers and how they tend to even keep developer kits until the last minute to prevent leaks from happening.

"This is actually the single most annoying thing for every dev out there," Thomas Mahler wrote, "Every hardware manufacturer is treating their dev kits and unreleased consoles like they're the second coming and are insanely secretive about it to a stupid degree in today's time." And really, he's right. Without those developers being able to actually make their games and optimize as far out as possible, then the starting line-up can diminish the initial value.

Mahler did later clarify that his comments were directed at all console makers, not solely at Nintendo.

Nintendo NX and a new Zelda game launching this year, new rumor says

Some new evidence has surfaced that points towards the release of Nintendo's NX and even the next Legend of Zelda game sometime by the end of this year. A user on NeoGAF that goes by the username Trevelyan9999 spoke about having heard from someone reliable who's close to the information that we'll be seeing those soon.

The information stems from an internal US marketing budget and scheduling overview that has listed on dates of the projected release for both the NX and the new Zelda game, which will apparently be released on both consoles very close to the same date.

Such information would be dismissed at first glance if it weren't for a few key, yet slight details that they're also able to provide. The report by Trevelyan9999 which showed up at the beginning of the week also mentioned a 20th anniversary Pokemon game, which was indeed revealed. The codename mentioned in their post was Niji, which also happened to be the initial filename for the logo images released by Nintendo, as uncovered by Gematsu. The codename for these anniversary games has never been discussed or mentioned before, giving credence to the information at hand. It's unlikely that anyone that isn't close to Nintendo would have known that.

Unfortunately, even internally it seems that outside of the new Zelda game, launch titles are being kept very secretive, so no further information exists at this time. The marketing budget for the Wii U in 2016, meanwhile, seems to be around $34.5 million while the unnamed Zelda game is set at $10 million. The 3DS has a much higher budget for marketing, owing to it's higher popularity, at $56.25 million. These numbers are always subject to change, especially now that they've been leaked to the public.

In fact, all of this information now being in the public eye could influence how Nintendo plans on releasing future games. It may have been true at some point, but we would be remiss if we didn't think things are going to change. The accuracy based off of the small tidbit from Pokemon is a wonderful indicator that at least there's a chance that the NX (likely with an AMD GPU inside) is getting closer to being ready for public consumption.

Rumor: Nintendo NX “Power” Closest To Xbox One; Can Run PS4/XO Games With Nearly Zero Modification

A source named ‘Geno’, allegedly told as much to website Dual Pixels. According Dual Pixels, ‘Geno’ is the same source who ‘leaked’ legit information on Pokemon, the PS4, and Microsoft’s Xbox One in the past.
Since the information was allegedly leaked to Dual Pixels by Geno, we’ve included the full paragraph below. All credits go to Dual Pixels.
    Details about NintendoProject NX
I don’t have many details on the device itself but I do have some background for it and some PR techniques they will use for it. A thing to note about this device is that much of it’s production was started in 2014 and many of the stuff I list here was outlined by the late Satoru Iwata before his passing. Hence in the company, the NX is considered the last project of their late president. Employees since his passing utter a phrase at the end of meetings and during idea brainstorms which is “岩田のために!” which roughly translates “For Iwata!”
The importance of this is that this “new” Nintendo is highly motivated in delivering a fantastic system and games, something that I quote from an employee “have not seen this much forward momentum on a project since they launched the original Famicom”.
SOME OF THE ONLY FEW HARDWARE INFO I KNOW IS THAT ALLEGEDLY:
    Advertisements

It has a wireless HDMI dongle that attaches flush to the back of the device. A user can pull it out and insert it into any display with a normal sized HDMI output and the devices uses an evolved version of the Wii U’s streaming tech to display in HD to the TV screen.
Allegedly the analog controls for movement has small motors in them for full haptic feedback. Meaning if you control a character and hit a wall, the sticks move away from the direction of that wall to simulate running head first into it. This can also be used for jerking when firing a gun, taking damage, moving over rough terrain, ect.
It can literally Bluetooth synch with everything, especially smart phone and tablets to the point where one feature is that it can answer phone calls and display text messages from your phone onto the screens itself so you don’t have to stop and answer your smart device.
The closest in terms of “power” it gets to is the Xbox One, but an app idea is Wii U x50 and Playstation Vita x100. The key is that all the tech is exactly the same hardware layout as the PS4 and Xbox One which then combine it with the OS’s strong emulation functions and compiler means that any game that can run of a Playstation 4 or Xbox One can easily run on the NX with near-zero modification to the original source code, especially if it runs in Android OS or Unreal Engine 4. This is allegedly why Nintendo has given out the dev kits so late, as one 3rd Party dev put it “It’s the easiest device we’ve ever developed for. You just take your code, compile it and it works.”
Look to Pokemon GO to get the idea of the type of social features that will be in NX that will take multiplayer, AR and the StreetPass concept to a whole new level.
The real strengths of the device is its usability and ease of use. Developers have described to me more than once that it visually and functionally looks as if “Samsung and the Nintendo 2DS” had a baby, in that it looks friendly but unlike what most people visualize a Nintendo device to typically look. The operating system, named NintendOS alone is very powerful and has so many modern features of mobile operating systems today that Nintendo is trying to be very careful in showing it off for fear that it would be mistaken as running Android. It also has a very strong networking functions as it ties into multiple devices and services allowing a very competent and pervasive eco-system designed to constantly involve the consumer’s lives.
Please take the information above with a grain (or a bag?) of salt since Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything about their new dedicated home console yet. We’ll keep you updated on the Nintendo NX when we learn more.

Nintendo NX May Contain Kinect-Like Features

Rumours galore surround the Nintendo NX, the successor to the Wii U. Now it seems like another one has come forward thanks to a patent showing off what seems to be Kinect-like features.
Nintendo took the console market by storm when it released the Wii back in 2006. Featuring motion controllers through the Wii remotes, the console saw entire families playing bowling together in their sitting room and racing around tracks with Luigi and Mario against the grandparents. Since then several consoles have used similar methods to achieve motion capture gameplay, from the use of light orbs to accelerometers in controllers the consoles have experienced an influx of movement related gameplay features. The Kinect took it to a whole new level and it looks like a similar method could be used to take the NX that little bit further.
The Kinect used cameras to not only recognise who was playing the game but also their movement and distance (something that proved difficult for other consoles). The methods listed for the depth tracking software include everything from a distance measuring laser to using the thermal signature of a person to determine how close / far away from the camera they are.
Combined with the depth measuring technology there also appears to be gesture recognition, something which could see you swirling your arms around like Iron man as you power up and play your favourite games.
Are you excited for the NX? We are excited to see how it will turn out and what rumours are included in the latest console from Nintendo!

Nintendo NX controller leak shows buttonless touchpad

Remember that strange patent that hinted the Nintendo NX's controllers would have an awkward ovular touchscreen in lieu of buttons? According to a "leaked" photo, that design is actually real, and will be used by Nintendo's upcoming console.

The leaked photo was originally leaked onto Reddit by user Idriss2Dev, and shows a possible proof-of-concept of the infamous Nintendo NX patent. As you can see, there's no actual buttons on the controller's ovular touchpad face, and a set of twin knobbly analog sticks that look rather odd. Notice the trigger button in the upper lefthand corner, and if you look closely, you can see a hint of a trigger on the right-hand side, too.

All in all the controller looks extremely non-ergonomic, leading many to believe it's a fake. Destructoid passed the image through a photo-checker and says it wasn't Photoshopped, so it may be genuine. Or it may be a fake prototype made to look like the patent. Assuming it is real, however, we're not sure if this controller belongs to the console or if it's the mobile on-the-go 3DS-like controller--based on its shape and form, I'd say it's the latter.

If this is the design Nintendo is going for, gamers don't like it one bit. Almost every comment I've seen about the picture is negative, with just about everyone saying how uncomfortable and unwieldy it looks. I personally have a theory that the controller isn't so uncomfortable, especially given there's only analog sticks and bumpers at the top.

Stop right now and imagine you're holding a games controller, and look at your hands. Now imagine that controller only has analog stocks and two bumpers at the tops, while acting like you're playing a game.

See that natural cleft formed in the centers of your palms? That's where the controller's ovular sides would fit, snugly into that valley. Sure the touchscreen would be awkward beyond measure, but the controller might be pretty snug. If it's real, of course.

New Nintendo NX Controller Images Leaked

A new set of Nintendo NX controller images just leaked on Reddit, thanks to user perkele37.

He also pointed out the following about the Nintendo NX controller.

    • Only the upper ‘nubs’ of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom ‘sphere’.
    • The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don’t believe this will be the final design.
    • Haptic feedback is feels like Apples ‘taptic’ engine. Not like regular rumble.
    • 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom

At a first glance, these images don’t seem to have been photoshopped in any way. There’s a chance they might be real this time around, though of course at the moment this remains just a rumor.
We’ll keep you posted on any development on these controller images and anything else related to the Nintendo NX console, so stay tuned on WCCFtech.

Nintendo NX reveal coming before E3, possibly in April, says insider

Nintendo may reveal its mysterious new NX console during its next investor's meeting on April 27, claims a renowned industry insider.

Despite tons of info from the rumor mill, Nintendo has been careful to keep official details of its new NX console quite vague, but the Japanese games maker will soon break the silence with a full reveal of the hardware. That's according to NeoGAF insider Orgen, who says that fans will "get more NX info before E3", and that a reveal during Nintendo's next April 27 shareholders meeting would "match the timeframes". Orgen rightly predicted Pokemon Black and White 2, so his claims may be accurate.

"You can bet that you're going to get more NX info before E3. I think it'll be more of a full reveal than a 'we're working on it, and we'll see more at E3'," Orgen said in the NeoGAF post. "I don't know if it's going to be the result briefing or some sort of direct but the 27th of April would match the timeframes."

The insider goes on to speculate that Nintendo could hold a special Nintendo Direct to showcase and announce the NX, or even a press media briefing built around the hardware itself. A pre-E3 reveal of the NX would allow Nintendo to gain hype and traction between April and June, and smash in with new games and features at the event.

Nintendo NX Controller In Leaked Pics Isn’t The Real Deal, But Hinted Elements May Be Part Of The Final One – Rumor

Yesterday, some images showcasing what has been described as the controller of the yet to be revealed new Nintendo console, codenamed NX, have surfaced online. The controller is quite unique when compared to traditional controllers, so there’s a lot of curiosity surrounding it. According to another fresh rumor, however, the depicted controller may not be the real deal.

Nintendo World Report has revealed today that they have got in touch with their sources at Nintendo of America, who have apparently confirmed that the Nintendo NX controller shown in the leaked pic isn’t the real deal. At the same time, however, it’s been hinted that some of the features shown in the leaked controller may end up being included in the final version of the controller. As the information comes from an unnamed source, we must take all this with a grain of salt until the console is finally unveiled.
To cement my feline opinion, I sniffed around and talked to my squirrel friend stationed outside of Nintendo of America’s HQ, who relayed to me through sources close to Nintendo that this image is a fake. Maybe some of the elements hinted at in this image will be a part of the NX, but that controller ain’t the real deal.

A few weeks ago, another rumor has started circulating online regarding the Nintendo NX console. According to NeoGAF forum member AmaterasuOni, one big third party developer is porting a huge game to Nintendo NX. This forum member claimed to have participated in a closed beta for this title.
This big third party title isn’t the only high profile game that’s supposedly in development for the Nintendo NX. According to another rumor, which has proven to be quite reliable regarding other Nintendo announcements of the past few weeks, The Legend of Zelda Wii U will also be released on Nintendo NX as a launch window title, which means it may not be available exactly at launch.
If the Nintendo NX is indeed getting released later this year as rumors indicate, we will surely learn more about the console in the near future. We’ll keep you updated on it as soon as possible so stay tuned for all the latest news.
