Projecto NX - nova consola da Nintendo

Nintendo confirms that its working on a new console

Nintendo on Tuesday confirmed that it had started development of its next-generation code-named “NX” video game console. The company revealed no details about the new product, but it is highly likely that the system will be a successor to the struggling Wii U. The console might hit the market as soon as in 2017.“As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename ‘NX’,” said Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, during a press conference.
Late last year it transpired that Nintendo started to hire personnel in the U.S. to develop key chips for its next-generation game console. It was also revealed that the company planned to license graphics processing and general-purpose processing technologies from Advanced Micro Devices. However, nothing has been confirmed officially so far.
At present Nintendo shares no details concerning its “NX” system since it is years away. The only thing we do know about the product is that it is a “dedicated game system”, not some kind of universal device. Considering the fact that the company plans to start talking about its next console next year, it is likely that the system will be released in 2017.
“It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project, but we hope to share more information with you next year,” said Mr. Iwata.
Já não falta muito para 2017 e com a PS4 e X1 a serem tão fraquinhas, não será difícil fazer melhor em termos de desempenho gráfico.

Why Nintendo's NX Console Needs To Be x86-Based (Op-Ed)

Nintendo recently stated that "NX" was the code name for a new game console under development. No information on this console has been given except the code name, but what does Nintendo need to do with its new game console?
The relatively new Wii U originally launched worldwide in Q4 2012, but it has faced problems since its inception, many of which can be traced to the hardware inside of the Wii U.
According to a page from an IBM manual, the Wii U uses three RISC CPU cores based off of a PowerPC architecture, which is the same architecture used inside of Nintendo's previous two game consoles. The core speeds have never been officially stated, but according to hacker Hector Martin, the cores run at 1.24 GHz.
The reason for maintaining a similar architecture is to make the new console backwards compatible with previous consoles, which is not an uncommon practice. Microsoft and Sony try to maintain backwards compatibility with older consoles as well, but they use other methods that are less restrictive on hardware, but suffer in other ways.
The Xbox 360, for example, is only able to play a portion of games from the original Xbox, and to make these games work, each one requires a separate download and may experience bugs and performance issues.
Maintaining backwards compatibility can hamper growth, though, as the best hardware for new consoles often isn't compatible with the older hardware. On the other hand, it does increase the console's available library of games.
As a result of the limited hardware, the Wii U has fallen behind the Playstation 4 and Xbox One in performance. According to the technical director on Frostbite for EA, Johan Andersson, the Wii U had difficulties running the Frostbite 2 engine, and so the company never attempted the Frostbite 3 engine on the console.

In the latest generation of gaming consoles, both Sony and Microsoft went with AMD x86 processors for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, respectively. This benefits game developers by offering a high level of compatibility between the new consoles and PCs, making it easier, cheaper, and faster to develop and port games to these devices.
The Wii U's PowerPC CPU architecture is not compatible with the x86-based hardware and software used in other consoles, and as a result, porting games to the Wii U requires more time and is more expensive. The added cost, in addition to the limited hardware performance, has caused many companies such as Ubisoft and EA to halt production of several games for Wii U.
Despite the challenges, Nintendo has so far been able to profit off of the Wii U, but the sale of games and hardware units is much lower than the competition. The console's game library has been carried almost entirely by first-party games by Nintendo.
Although Nintendo has been able to keep its console going, it seems doubtful that the company can continue to produce first-party games at a rate that would satisfy customers long term without over-producing games in its major franchises. Too many Zelda or Mario games could drop in quality, or feature repetitive game play and ultimately leave customers dissatisfied.
Even if Nintendo is able to produce enough first-party games to satisfy customers who only buy a handful of titles a year, there are many gamers who can run through a game in a week and then want something new. No single company can produce a new high-quality game every week without the support of third-party game developers, and as a result many gamers turn to other consoles.
The only way out for Nintendo is to design a new console that can overcome the shortcomings of the Wii U. The new console would need to at least be competitive with the Xbox One and Playstation 4 from a performance standpoint, but that may not be enough to attract third-party game developers back over, as the cost for porting games would still be potentially prohibitively high.
The best solution for Nintendo is to design a console that uses x86-based processors, which would allow third-party developers to easily port games to the NX console. The largest first-party game library, combined with strong support from third-party game developers, could place Nintendo back on top of the home gaming console market.
Developing a new console could also cause Nintendo some problems, though; although a new console could be much more successful than the Wii U, the Wii U is only about 2.5 years old. Over 9.2 million Wii U consoles have already been sold, and it's a lot to ask customers to buy a new console so (relatively) soon.
Nintendo could try to support both consoles, but clearly the new system would receive the most attention and receive better content.
It's a tough situation for Nintendo to be in, but in the end a new console might be the only way to keep Nintendo in the home gaming market.

    Android rumoured behind next Nintendo

    Can Android's Wii?

The dark satanic rumour mill has manufactured a hell on earth yarn that Nintendo's new console will not only be the first to use a name unconnected to toilets, but will be powered by Android.

For a while now, people had been wondering what the next Wii would be called, with smart money being on the Number 2. However it seems that the new console dubbed the Nintendo NX has a few suprises under the bonnet.
According to Nikkei Nintendo is planning an Android console so that game developers would be able to port their games over with relative ease.
This could also indicate that games developed for the Nintendo NX could extend to other Android-powered devices like smartphones and tablets, play nice with the console.
Games developers have been ignoring the Wii U in droves so this might actually help Nintendo get back into the race.
Android-powered consoles have appeared before but they died horribly in the market place.

Hum....uma consola da Nintendo com ARM?

Tenho as minhas duvidas, pois anteriormente tivemos rumores de que a AMD iria fazer a nova consola da Nintendo, logo seria de esperar X86 + GCN.

No Android For The Nintendo NX Clarifies Company Spokesperson

Yesterday the internet got all hyped up when reports out of Japan suggested that Nintendo might be looking at Google and Android for its next gaming console. Nintendo’s Wii U didn’t do nearly as good as its competitors or as the company would like. Owning to the fact that the Wii U simply is not able to support high performing games, which the gaming world clamors, the console saw a mere 10 million units sell in two years – a feat the Play Station 4 accomplished in 9 months. Well, a company spokesperson has clarified any rumors that Nintendo might be looking at Android for the company’s next NX gaming console.

Nintendo Not Looking At Android Partnership For NX – Elaborates Company Spokesperson

While the Wii U’s disappointing performance had a lot of die hard Nintendo users hoping for the company to pull a rabbit out of its hat and do something impossible – looks like Android isn’t going to be the answer over at Nintendo. The company, which has enjoyed tremendous loyalty from a dedicated fan base of age old titles such as Mario, was rumored to be looking at an Android partnership to revitalize its relationship with developers, given that Android has started to become a part of a large array of devices, asides from smartphones and tablets.

Well, the company has no such plans, the Wall Street Journal reports today, According to the publication, a company representative has made clarifications regarding yesterday’s speculations. According to the spokesperson, whose identity has not been revealed, “There is no truth to the report saying that we[Nintendo] are planning to adopt Android for NX”. Well, that settles things for you folks. Looks like there won’t be an Android touting Nintendo NX and Nintendo’s going to have to rely on other options to breathe new life inside its consoles. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated and let us know what you think in the comments section.

Nintendo NX May Be a Home Console

Nintendo announced a few months ago that they are working on a brand new platform called “NX”. The company hasn’t told us any more details, and never confirmed if we can expect it to be a home console or new portable system.
Recent comments made by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime caught our eye when interviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
“We’ve also said publicly that we are already hard at work on our next home console and that’s another element we’ll be talking about much later.”
It’s pretty obvious what this may mean, it’s a very strong hint and maybe confirmation that this all new Nintendo NX will be a console rather than a handheld device. What will it look like? what will it do? we have no idea.
With any luck, it will pack some of the features of the Wii U, but in a much more hardcore console. Nintendo is very good when it comes to consoles, but they’re nowhere near the same league as Xbox and PS4 when it comes to the latest games. They’re amazing for family and group fun but try to play a fast paced FPS on it and you may as well give up.
What do you think Nintendo are up to behind the scenes?
Thank you to NintendoEverything for providing us with this information

Nintendo Won’t Talk About its Next-Gen NX Console Because Sony and Microsoft May Steal its Ideas

While we have only heard that Nintendo is working on a next generation video game console – codenamed NX – and some flat rumors like it being powered by Android, the platform holder itself has been pretty uncommunicative in revealing anything related to the upcoming successor to the Wii U home console. Both President Satoru Iwata and Nintendo of America lead Reggie Fils-Aime have already said that the company won’t talk openly about it until next year, and according to the latest news, this is because Nintendo doesn’t want competitors in the industry to steal its ideas.

Nintendo Explains Why it is Being Overly Secretive About its Forthcoming Next-Gen Video Game Hardware

Nintendo’s next-gen video game hardware, which is currently known simply as NX, has kept an enigmatic appeal to itself for almost a year now. There is only very little that is currently known about the upcoming inevitable console that will obviously be in the market up against exceedingly famous PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The new console is claimed to be a dedicated game platform with a “brand-new concept,” and according to many, the company still wants Wii U to grow, and that is why we are not hearing much about it already. However, that is not all.

As it seems, the Japanese multinational consumer electronics company is planning to take gamers by surprise with its new console, and that is why it is so cautious about saying anything related to the new system before the right time, as it fears the competitors in the video game industry may imitate its ideas. According to Twitter user Nstyles (translated by Cheesemeister3k), responding to a question regarding the transition between the Wii U and the upcoming NX console in a recent shareholders meeting, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said:
“We can’t talk about the NX. If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won’t be surprised. This would not be beneficial for the company or its shareholders. The NX is new hardware, and will start from 0. However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient. We will continue making 3DS and Wii software while preparing for the NX. We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U.”
Even though Nintendo revealed its forthcoming “dedicated game system” back in March during an announcement about the company making official smartphone games, the firm didn’t reveal any details about NX console at its E3 2015 Digital Event other than saying that fans won’t hear much about NX before next year. Now, it seems like Nintendo is being way too vigilant, but history proves that their best ideas have indeed been copied. Take Wii’s motion control for an example; how its massive success coerced Sony and Microsoft to introduce their own unique motion control hardware. Nintendo might be working on NX with a one of a kind idea, and it might even take the video game industry by storm, but nothing much can be said until 2016.

Nintendo looking ahead to NX, but won't quit on 3DS, Wii U owners

Even though Nintendo is fully looking towards the future with its upcoming NX console, that doesn't mean it is going to just abandon 3DS and Wii U owners. Instead, new game titles and software updates will be made available for both systems, even while the company works on new technology.

"However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient. We will continue making 3DS and Wii U software while preparing for the NX," said Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, while speaking to investors. "We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U."

Details about the NX won't be released by Nintendo until 2016, even though gamers were hoping to learn more during E3. It's reportedly going to be a "new concept" from the Japanese gaming company, and shouldn't be considered an outright replacement for the Wii U.

Shigeru Miyamoto not involved in Nintendo NX development

The creator of Mario, The Legend of Zelda and other popular game titles, Shigeru Miyamoto, is focused more on new video game development instead of the Nintendo NX.

Miyamoto is more of a software and gaming guy, but has contributed input regarding previous Nintendo hardware platforms - but seems more interested in just watching the hardware develop, and make sure future titles are able to run well on NX.

"I've pulled myself back out of some of the hardware section and I'm really focused on some of the software I'm involved in- for example, the new Starfox game," Miyamoto recently said to Forbes. "Of course, I am observing and looking at the hardware, but I am not actively participating and making decisions."

Nintendo doesn't plan to discuss NX too much until 2016, so what the Japanese gaming company is working on largely remains a mystery.

    Nintendo roadmap for 2016

    Wii everywhere
Nintendo has leaked the timeline of its 2016 launch of its next-generation games console and asked its supply chain partners to start pilot production in October.

The console will be manufactured by Foxconn with Pegatron trying to snatch some of the orders.
Component suppliers such as Macronix, PixArt Imaging, Coxon, Nishoku, Delta Electronics, Lingsen and Jentech, are also expected to land orders from Nintendo for the new console.
We already knew in March of Nintendo's plan to release Nintendo NX in 2016 and has started visiting its supply chain partners.
According to Digitimes, which has the inside trouser measurement of Nintendo, orders will be finalized in February or March 2016 and mass production will start in May or June 2016, while the console's official launch may take place around July.
Nintendo wants to ship 20 million Nintendo NX in the first year. This is ten times more than the shipment volume of ii U.

Rumor claims Nintendo NX to begin manufacturing this year

Nintendo has been in a slump for a while but earlier this year it revealed that it was already working on its next home console, currently codenamed the Nintendo NX. At the time, the company said that it would not be sharing any more details until next year, which many people believe will be a proper announcement along with a release date.
Now, rumours are claiming that not only will Nintendo launch its next console next year but it may start manufacturing early models in October. Taiwan-based site, DigiTimes, which often leaks information about upcoming mobile devices, is claiming that Nintendo has a contract with Foxconn to start building early test models of the NX this year.

The site also claims that Mass production of the final units will begin in May or June of next year with an official launch in July. However, considering that Nintendo has at least one major title left to release on the Wii U in the form of a new Zelda game, this all seems a bit too soon to be true.
If Nintendo were to show off its new console next year, it would likely happen at E3. While it could potentially release over the holiday season next year, there isn’t a whole lot of evidence to support that theory.
