DiRT 4 Incoming Announcement? AMD Adds Crossfire Profile for Codemasters’ Racing Game

MD may have spoiled Codemasters’ surprise, as the red team has already added a Crossfire profile for DiRT 4 in its latest graphics driver. Yeap, the latest part in the DiRT series will most probably be titled “DiRT 4″ and from the looks of it AMD has been trying to optimize the title for its graphics cards.Apart from the fact that AMD has already included a DiRT 4 Crossfire profile in its AMD Catalyst 15.4, the red team has also noted that these drivers are not yet optimized for Codemasters’ racing game.
As noted, PC gamers may experience poor performance in some configurations with these drivers (perhaps an issue meant to be read by those participating in the game’s closed beta phase).
For what is worth, Codemasters teased DiRT 4 back in April, though the team has not officially announced anything yet about it.
    Stay tuned for more.

DiRT 4 Appears in Nvidia Drivers; Has SLI and 3D Support; Announcement Incoming

A few days ago, we reported DiRT 4 appearing in AMD’s latest Catalyst drivers, where a Crossfire profile was available for the game. If there was any doubt this was the real deal rather than a misprint, it can now be put to rest, as DiRT 4 also appears in Nvidia’s drivers.

Nvidia has added a 3D profile for DiRT 4 rated “Excellent” which indicates that the game has already been tested. This was not present in older drivers.

Nvidia has also added an SLI profile for DiRT 4.

Codemasters has already teased DiRT 4, but no information has been revealed for the game. It will likely be using Codemasters’ new engine featured in F1 2015, which launches in June. The new engine built for current generation hardware shows a massive increase in visual fidelity compared to the previous generation.
An announcement for DiRT 4 should be coming real soon so it’s certainly exciting news for racing fans. The new engine will give the game a lot of visual flair and a potential current gen exclusive development will ensure a well optimized game.

DiRT 4 could be possibly be released alongside F1 2015 or shortly after in which case it should definitely be making an appearance at E3 2015 in June. We will bring you any new information on DiRT 4 as soon as it becomes available. Be sure to check out our F1 2015 overage for more on Codemasters.

Codemasters launches Dirt Rally through Steam Early Access

Fans of Codemasters' Dirt series will be pleasantly surprised with today's news: the British game developer has launched a new title in the series, Dirt Rally, through Steam Early Access, meaning you can purchase, download, and test the game right now.Codemasters decided to launch Dirt Rally through Early Access to ensure that the game is exactly what fans want. What the developer has already put together is based upon feedback they received for their previous titles, Dirt 3 andDirt: Showdown, and they're eager to hear more through the Early Access process.
The game itself is "pure rally with none of the fluff", and is actually pretty feature-packed for a game available through Early Access. Right now you get access to 17 cars, 36 stages of differing types, a full physics and simulation model, and a team management component. On top of this, Codemasters will be adding more cars, tracks and game modes over the coming months.
The trailer for the game shows fairly nice visuals, and it's recommended you have either an AMD Radeon R9 290 or an Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 to run it. Previous games in the series have looked excellent, so by the time Dirt Rally is released as a final version, let's hope it continues the trend.
If you want to test out Dirt Rally, the game can be purchased through Steam Early Access right now for $35. Any features that get added to the game from now on will be free to those who purchase it, and you'll be automatically upgraded to the final version when the title leaves Early Access.

    I... I'm in.

    .
    .
    .
    .

Embora eu use apenas a externa (trolololo).

DiRT Rally: Chatting with Paul Coleman about the latest Codemasters' Creation

Digging in a Little Deeper into the DiRT

Over the past few weeks I have had the chance to play the early access "DiRT Rally" title from Codemasters. This is a much more simulation based title that is currently PC only, which is a big switch for Codemasters and how they usually release their premier racing offerings. I was able to get a hold of Paul Coleman from Codemasters and set up a written interview with him. Paul's answers will be in italics.
Who are you, what do you do at Codemasters, and what do you do in your spare time away from the virtual wheel?

Hi my name is Paul Coleman and I am the Chief Games Designer on DiRT Rally. I’m responsible for making sure that the game is the most authentic representation of the sport it can be, I’m essentially representing the player in the studio. In my spare time I enjoy going on road trips with my family in our 1M Coupe. I’ve been co-driving in real world rally events for the last three years and I’ve used that experience to write and voice the co-driver calls in game.
If there is one area that DiRT has really excelled at is keeping frame rate consistent throughout multiple environments. Many games, especially those using cutting edge rendering techniques, often have dramatic frame rate drops at times. How do you get around this while still creating a very impressive looking game?
The engine that DiRT Rally has been built on has been constantly iterated on over the years and we have always been looking at ways of improving the look of the game while maintaining decent performance. That together with the fact that we work closely with GPU manufacturers on each project ensures that we stay current. We also have very strict performance monitoring systems that have come from optimising games for console. These systems have proved very useful when building DiRT Rally even though the game is exclusively on PC.

How do you balance out different controller use cases? While many hard core racers use a wheel, I have seen very competitive racing from people using handheld controllers as well as keyboards. Do you handicap/help those particular implementations so as not to make it overly frustrating to those users? I ask due to the difference in degrees of precision that a gamepad has vs. a wheel that can rotate 900 degrees.
Again this comes back to the fact that we have traditionally developed for console where the primary input device is a handheld controller. This is an area that other sims don’t usually have to worry about but for us it was second nature. There are systems that we have that add a layer between the handheld controller or keyboard and the game which help those guys but the wheel is without a doubt the best way to experience DiRT Rally as it is a direct input.
Continue reading the entire DiRT Rally Interview here!
What has been done with the incoming Force Feedback patch as compared to what was initially implemented? How does this implementation affect things like CPU resources vs. the old? Memory footprint? New hooks into the physics engine?
I’m starting to sound like a bit of a stuck record here but the way we had implemented the FFB at launch was a legacy system that we had been using for our console games. This is an example where that legacy system was not up to the standard that people expected with a PC simulation game and we had a lot of feedback telling us that that is the case. In a nutshell:
As a result the Force Feedback system has been re-written. Forces are now separated into force and friction to make better use of device API and this removes the inverted feeling that some users were experiencing. FFB sampling has been improved as part of the re-write and this supported by both controller and wheel devices. This coupled with more options to refine your setup and a calibration wizard means that this should give the fans the experience they have been asking for.

What are you doing to further improve the Eyefinity and Surround experiences? I notice that in some cars with the “through windshield view sans wheel and hands” that the view is not exceptionally beneficial or accurate. For example, in a certain Lancia car I feel like I am low-riding my seat and barely peering over the dash. What adjustments can be made?
We added the dashboard view to allow players to experience the cockpit without having the restricted view. We also added some adjustment to the Field of View but it’s clear that people want more adjustment. We are investigating a bunch of stuff to help with this including allowing players to adjust their seat position.
One thing that really struck me was watching the benchmark with sound turned on. The switch from viewpoint to viewpoint had a dramatic change in sound position, occlusion, and reverb. Can you describe what you have done with the sound engine and how important that is to the racing experience?
The most obvious change is from exterior into cabin view. We’re treating the sound as it is treated in real life, the engine and exhaust emit from their respective sources on the car, as do the surface sounds from the ground. We then filter these sounds when in cabin view and apply an impulse response of a rally car. This is a recording of the internal space that the sound moves around in inside the car. Much like the echo in a bathroom, but we can design and control how much echo we need. We also apply the same principal in exterior locations. We have impulses responses of wooded areas where we can dynamically mix the reverb depending on how many trees are surrounding the vehicle.

Cheating has always been an issue, and DiRT 2 was notorious for the top daily challenges being all cheaters. What have you done to improve this situation?
We’ve got a number of systems in place to prevent cheaters that we didn’t have back in the day with DiRT2. I’m not going to go into detail with how they work because I wouldn’t want to compromise the work we have done but I am significantly more confident that the times posted are legit. As for corner cutting, this is part of rally but where people are finding extreme shortcuts we are looking at planting trees and shrubs or placing fences to prevent people from exploiting those lines.

DiRT Rally – Codemasters Partners With FIA World Rallycross Championship

Codemasters announced a long-term collaboration with the FIA World Rallycross Championship for DiRT Rally. The first stage of this partnership will see the RX Supercars, tracks and racing modes implemented into DiRT Rally as part of Codies commitment to deliver regular content updates during Early Access.

Owners of the game will soon be able to drive a selection of these monstrous cars for themselves across three different game modes and experience the sheer speed, action, dynamism and performance that makes World RX one of the fastest growing motorsports in the world. As with all previous updates, this new content will be available free of charge to existing and included for new owners of the game.

The tracks that have currently been built and included in the game are Holjes (Sweden) and Lydden Hill (Great Britain). The Hell circuit in Norway will be added in the near future.

DiRT Rally’s Chief Game Designer, Paul Coleman, explained:
“From the outset we wanted DiRT Rally™ to be the ultimate off-road racer and to fulfill that vision we knew we had to include World RX. Since the launch in Early Access back in April we have continued to add new, diverse content to the game and World RX will add another dimension that will challenge even the most experienced players.”
Team Volkswagen Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson, who is currently second in the overall World RX drivers’ standings, stated:
“Codemasters have done a brilliant job – the details is very realistic and not far from real life,”
“As drivers we are always wanting to change the smallest things with our cars, but this version is very good. There are just a couple of tweaks that need to be made and then I think it will be just like driving the real thing. It’s by far the best rallycross game I have played.”

Martin Anayi, World RX Managing Director for IMG, concluded:
“It was great to have the Codemasters team with us in Holjes over the weekend, which allowed us to showcase our new joint game venture to over 40,000 fans. Codemasters has worked exceptionally hard to get this project off the ground and it’s been encouraging to hear such positive feedback from our drivers after they had test-driven the game. We are very excited about our new collaboration with Codemasters and look forward to working with the team more closely to help develop the game further.”

Codemasters has recently released the first major update for DiRT Rally. The update brings several fixes and improvements to the Steam Early Access racer and at no extra cost adds the Pikes Peak Pack.

Codemasters note that Pikes Peak is built “from the ground up in its full fat modern tarmac state (the first time in a video game) and the mixed surface variant we all grew up loving.”

You can view the Changelog below:

Dirt Rally Performance Review – GeForce GTX 970 Versus Radeon R9 390

Codemasters Dirt Rally Gaming Performance Benchmarked

Colin McRae Rally and Dirt has been a popular racing franchise for Codemasters since 1998. Since it first came out, there have been over 10 different versions of the racing game for Windows. It has been close to 3 years since we got our first glimpse of Dirt Rally, development is taking time, but that is what is needed to make a polished game rather than rushing it out the door. In order to get feedback from it’s core audience, Codemasters has made Dirt Rally available on Steam as an “Early Access Game”. image: http://www.legitreviews.com/wp-conte...ot-645x363.jpg

Based on the EGO gaming engine that was developed by Codemasters and Sony, it allows for highly detailed damage and real world physics in large scale environments. Dirt Rally features events both on and off road with varying weather conditions. Currently, featuring 17 cars from the 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 2010’s, Group B and Group A. Codemasters intends to introduce new cars, more locations and racing modes throughout the Early Access stage, with a planned release date for late 2015.

During the testing phase, we wanted to make sure we put the test cards under the highest load possible. So we will be utilizing the Ultra graphics setting, while testing different resolutions. In addition, we changed the Multisampling to 8x MSAA.

We will start the testing right after taking a quick look at the test system.

DiRT Rally Rated For PlayStation 4 And Xbox One in Taiwan

The DIRT franchise progressively moved away from traditional rallying and began to incorporate Gymkhana events. Furthermore, Codemasters received a great deal of criticism for the blatant vehicle DLC in DIRT 3 which tried to sell additional content during the car selection screen. Clearly, the studio’s management decided to target the American market, and widen DIRT 3’s appeal. The worst title in the series by a significant margin is DIRT Showdown. This was a feeble attempt to replicate the chaotic driving style from Flatout Ultimate Carnage and shouldn’t have been released with the DIRT name. In recent years, Codemasters have disappointed racing enthusiasts on a regular basis which raised questions about their long-term future.
Undoubtedly, the studio dropped its simulation roots and made the series more friendly to newcomers. However, from absolutely nowhere, Codemasters unveiled DIRT Rally which I honestly believe is their best creation in the last decade. Despite launching in early access, DIRT Rally quickly gained a reputation among PC gamers for being a very difficult but rewarding experience. Unlike its predecessor, DIRT Rally focuses on time trial contests and has an impressive rallycross mode. On another note, damage transfers over between stages and helps you to gradually improve.
Codemasters initially launched the game as a PC exclusive which makes sense given the early development stage and simulation features. Console players generally don’t have many real simulators to choose from with Project CARS being the main exception. While some people refer to Forza or Gran Turismo as a similar, it really isn’t in the grand scheme of things. Whatever the case, a listing for DIRT Rally on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has appeared in Taiwan. Here we can see the actual listing including platform, publisher and game title:

This is very exciting news for the console market and I cannot wait to see how DIRT Rally performs on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s certainly one of the best racing games I’ve played and I really hope this listing turns out to be correct.

Dirt Rally PS4 and Xbox One Release Date Confirmed for April 5th

Dirt Rally, the newest rally inspired game from Codemasters is finally being fully released to the public today. A new Winter Wonderland update is also being released, that has a new set of snow covered tracks from the Varmland region of Sweden. Soft edge tech is being used to simulate the density of snow, helping it to look fantastic.

Dirt Rally coming to a next-gen console year you on April 5th 2016.

But now there’s hints that it’ll be released on console sooner than we think. The CEO of Codemasters has set a very specific date as part of the exciting announcement of it’s release on Steam today.
The launch on Steam early access has been a resounding success. We want to thank the community for their valuable feedback and support which has guided our development for the past eight months, resulting in a 92% positive user score. We are now ready to launch the final version of the game on PC. Following this success on PC and a vocal demand from consumers, we are delighted to announce that Dirt Rally will be available on consoles on April 5th 2016.

    – Frank Sagnier, CEO Codemasters
So hopefully we’ll here some more specific details on what’ll be included in the console release when we get closer to April.
Before today it was a part of Steam’s Early Access program, where it was highly regarded and enjoyed quick and timely updates to all manner of issues that might have cropped up. It’s regarded as a resounding success, being more fun to play than it’s predecessor, with a fantastic community and certainly being challenging yet with a slightly arcade feel that can be adjusted for the more serious of players.
    Patch notes for version 1.0:

    • You can now tune your immersion levels by customising your OSD options, choosing between On, Countdowns Only and Off.
    • The Logitech G29 wheel is now correctly listed in the controller preset menu.
    • Custom Championships now reward you with the correct number of credits.
    • There’s a new EULA to sign when you boot the game, which asks you to kindly behave yourself when you’re playing with others.
    • Your favourite pet mouse has learnt a new trick, and can now change the livery on your car.
    • If you own an Owner’s Club event, you will now correctly own the Owned achievement.
    • If you pledge a wedge to an online Wager Event and the event ends while you’re on stage, we’ll give you your CR back.
    • Your Oculus Rift can now be toggled to lock the horizontal orientation. Look for a flag in the hardware configuration file.
    • Sliders on the Advanced Racing Wheel Options screen now increment at the same rate as the Steering and Pedal calibration screen.
    • Your Service Crews are back from their training course and will now correctly setup your car for multi-location events.
    • Stopped one set of Rallycross results from appearing on a Rally leaderboard.
    • You no longer need to hold the headlight control to activate your lights. You can now just tap that.
    • Windows accounts with accented and non-latin characters will now correctly save game settings.
    • Fixed a weird bug where the camera would briefly flick back to the default position at the start of a stage after customising the seat position.
    • @Kick_Up will now politely and calmly inform you if your wheels fall off, and if you’re going the wrong way.

DIRT Rally Aiming For 60FPS On PS4&XB1; Resolution “As High As Possible”

Earlier this week, DIRT Rally has officially been released on PC (via Steam) after a period of Early Access. Codemasters also announced the release date for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One: the game will be available for consoles on April 5, 2016.

Darren Hayward, Senior Games Designer at Codemasters, revealed some details via Twitter regarding the console versions of DIRT Rally. Specifically, he confirmed that the team is targeting 60FPS for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

    SoldierTurk00 @superTurk00
@Hatward Will dirt Rally be on ps4 60 fps?

    Darren Hayward @Hatward

    @superTurk00 Yes sir

@Hatward Are you aiming for 60FPS on Xbox One as well?

    Follow
    Darren Hayward @Hatward

    @AlexiousRahl Yes sir.
    · Berlin, Germany, Deutschland

This makes sense, as a frame rate of 60FPS is very important for any racing game. Even more so for a challenging title like DIRT Rally, where the smallest mistake can ruin your race.
As for the resolution, Hayward wasn’t able to confirm anything yet other than that they’ll try to get it as high as possible while keeping their frame rate target.

    SoldierTurk00 @superTurk00
    @Hatward Resolution on consoles?

    Follow
    Darren Hayward @Hatward

@superTurk00 Unsure yet. High as we can get it with 60fps.
    · Berlin, Germany, Deutschland

If history has taught us anything in this generation, we may end up with 1080P@60FPS on PlayStation 4 and 900P@60FPS on Xbox One. Obviously, Codemasters could surprise us and get Microsoft’s version to FullHD as well.
Either way, DIRT Rally is probably the best racing game produced by Codemasters in the last few years and you should probably get it wherever possible. Check back soon for our own review of the title.

    Dirt Rally Review

    Dirt Rally Review

    Price: £34.99
    Developer: Codemasters
    Publisher: Codemasters
    Platform: PC

Codemasters' Dirt series has been one long identity crisis for the studio, leaping upon gimmicks and trends with the vague desperation of a struggling popstar. None of them could be considered bad games per se. But the act of driving a car fast along a road that wasn't remotely designed for fast driving was often obscured behind the cringeworthy attempts to be hip and trendy and the hideous nonsense that was Gymkhana.

By comparison, Dirt Rally is like an awakening, shrugging off its gaudy robes and standing in the rain to cleanse its naked body. It's a simulation of the most austere and formidable kind, laying down a challenge that is both refreshing and rewarding. It does forget to educate you in its bold transformation here and there, but once you're past its sheer learning curve, you're in for quite a treat.

Initially it looks like a fairly typical Codemasters offering, albeit with a much more pared down menu. The basic structure follows that of most racers, centred around a career mode that sees you rise from muddling through open rally events to chasing down the world's rallying elite.

The moment you roll up to the starting line, however, Dirt Rally reveals itself to be a very different beast. Most of the safety nets accrued in previous Codemasters titles have gone, most notably the "Flashback" ability that let you rewind a race a set number of times to correct mistakes. In fact, Dirt Rally looks down on all forms of quitting with the scorn of a Drill Sergeant. Restarting a stage is discouraged through the offer of a bonus that decreases each time you nip back to the starting line, and retiring from a stage will disqualify you from the entire event.

By ripping a hole in your racing parachute, Codemasters underline that rallying requires endurance as much as it does speed. Progression isn't about achieving the fastest time on every stage, it's about navigating each course with care and precision. You must keep your car intact between the sparsely distributed repair stops, and accept that you probably won't be finishing atop the podium right out of the gate. That said, if you drive cleanly and consistently, you could scrape a well-earned third place, and that will be sufficient to spring you to the next championship ranking, where more powerful cars and more lucrative prizes await.

Much of the time, simply reaching the finish line is an achievement in itself. Dirt Rally's courses are without a doubt some of the most demanding racing you'll experience in a long time. The tracks have more contours than a snake on steroids, each a writhing, twisting sequence of lumps, bumps and dips that has your poor navigator almost rapping out the obstacles that lie ahead. Listening to his calls is crucial to staying on track. If he says keep right, it usually means there's a massive rock jutting into the left side of the road, and if approaching a turn he states "Don't cut," you had damn well better not cut.

DiRT Rally Console Edition Detailed, New Trailer Released

Early Access players on PC have seen DiRT Rally at its absolute worse, and have watched as it’s developed into something pretty darn impressive. Console gamers – and those waiting for a physical PC DVD – have had a little bit longer to wait, but there’s going to be a few bonuses to make up for that fact.
When the rally revival is released in April, it’ll include Classic Mini and Super 1600 series right from the start of the game, along with 21 advanced rally driving video guides in case you fancy a spot of fun next time you pop to Lidl.
Players will also be able to drive the vintage full gravel surface at Pikes Peak for the first time, and three of Colin McRae’s most iconic liveries will be available.

Seven cars will be included in the pacjage, including the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak, Renault 5 Turbo, Renault Alpine A110, Opel Corsa Super 1600,Peugeot 207 S1600,Renault Clio S1600 and Mini Classic Rallycross.

The DiRT Rally Legend Edition is also available to pre-order, which includes a feature length documentary on Colin McRae, called Rally Legend. It charts the entirety of his career, as well as his involvement in his very own video games.
DiRT Rally is already available on Steam and will be available to pick up on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via DVD on April 5th.
