Battery Life Comparison Test Between iOS 9.3.1 Vs iOS 9.2.1 – Video

Does iOS 9.3.1 provide better battery life compared to iOS 9.2.1? A newly surfaced video aims to proves just that by using a simple, non-scientific test.

Is iOS 9.3.1 Better Than iOS 9.2.1 In Terms Of Battery Life?

Apple has been accused of crippling devices in terms of battery life and performance with every new release of iOS. While that has remained true in a lot of cases, but some releases have actually managed to push the limits regarding battery life. With that out of the way, is iOS 9.3.1 better than iOS 9.2.1 when it comes to battery life? A newly surfaced video on YouTube aims to answer that question, but using a simple, non-scientific test.
Without any spoilers, check out the video down below.

Download iOS 9.3.1 For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch – Direct IPSW Links

Rather than opting for a real-world test comparing iOS 9.3.2 versus iOS 9.2.1, iAppleBytes instead opted to run the Geekbench battery test on all the devices he was testing out.
    Advertisements

Before running the test, each device was charged all the way to the 100% mark and left to charge 30 minutes extra before the plug was removed and the Geekbench test was run.
First we charged all devices to 100% let them sit in the charger for an additional 30 minutes. Ran Geekbenchs test on all devices until the battery died, and filmed every wonderful moment.
We did this on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6. Using the same physical device to ensure the same battery life, first on iOS 9.2.1 and then again on the same device upgraded to iOS 9.3.1
Interestingly enough, the iPhone 4s managed to last the longest in terms of battery life in both the tests – running iOS 9.3.1 and iOS 9.2.1. But of course, that sort of battery life can be handed to the fact that the device has a smaller display topped off with a measly processor. But still, we can’t conclude from this test that Apple has crippled battery life with every new hardware release, since this is indeed a non-scientific test, all handled by software.
iOS 9.3.1 Update With Fix For Safari Link Crashes Coming Soon, Confirms Apple

While we do agree to the fact that Apple has indeed done some poor battery life work recently, but one can’t deny the features which the company has tossed into the mix over the years as well. We’re still hopeful at this point in time Apple will eventually answer all our battery life related woes with a proper solution, rather than with things like Low Power Mode etc.

How To Activate Night Shift In Low Power Mode On iOS 9.3.1

The arrival of iOS 9.3.1 removed the Siri trick to enable Night Shift when the device is running in the Low Power Mode. Turning both of these features on simultaneously was already hidden by Apple. Before the update, Siri would activate the Night Shift feature without turning off the Low Power Mode. After the update, Siri would request that to enable the Night Shift feature, the Low Power Mode would have to be turned off. However, a new trick has been discovered, which would again allow you to turn on Night Shift and Low Power Mode at the same time.

Enable Night Shift In Low Power Mode On Devices Running iOS 9.3.1

For those of you unfamiliar, Night Shift is a new feature that debuted with iOS 9.3. According to Apple, it makes you sleep better. The feature simply shifts the display hue to a much warmer end of the color spectrum, that is not too hard on the eyes. Do take note that the trick involves Siri’s assistance. So, if you want to enable Night Shift while your device is running Low Power Mode, simply follow the step by step instructions listed below.
    Step 1:
The first thing that you have to do is turn off the Low Power Mode feature if you’re already running it. You can do this by navigating to Setting > Battery and then toggle it off. This is because the Night Shift feature cannot be turned on by default if the Low Power Mode is running.
    Step 2:

Now go back to Settings and tap on Display & Brightness and then tap on Night Shift. This is where it gets tricky.

    Step 3:
Now, initiate Siri and ask her to turn on the Low Power Mode. Now wait for Siri to enable it. You can check if the Low Power Mode is enabled by the yellow color of the Battery sign located at the top of the display.

    Step 4:
Now press the Home button to disappear Siri and then manually turn on Night Shift until tomorrow or schedule it. Close all apps and you’ll see the Night Shift and Low Power Mode running at the same time.

This is a really simple workaround for those who want to enable Night Shift and Low Power Mode at the same time. Another thing to note is that the Night Shift option will be greyed out in the Control Center as well as the Settings that shows the unavailability of the feature in low Power Mode. However, judging on the bases of the warmer color of the screen, we can see that it is indeed active.
I manage to get this trick to work on my iPhone 6 Plus. Did it work out for you, guys? Let us know in the comments.

How To Disable iOS Control Center Access On Lock Screen

Want to disable Control Center on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch lock screen? Here’s how you can do so in a few simple steps.

Before the arrival of Control Center, turning on / off WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, etc. was a huge task to go through. Users were required to unlock their device, go to Settings, then from there go about their business. Not ideal by any means.
When Control Center made an entry into the scene with the release of iOS 7, Apple literally answered the call of millions of users around the globe who were looking for a way to access the most commonly used system aspects with a simple tap. While Control Center can be a godsend feature in a lot of cases, it can actually become a nuisance in some scenarios. For instance, it can be accessed on the lock screen by default, allowing anyone to put your iPhone or iPad in Airplane Mode and go completely stealth.
But thankfully, you can avoid such a situation by turning off Control Center access on the lock screen altogether. We’ll show you how it’s done in our typical step by step fashion tutorial.
Turn Off Control Center Access On iOS Lock Screen – Tutorial

    1. First and foremost, launch the Settings app.
    2. Here you’ll see a bunch of options. Tap on the one that says ‘Control Center.’ Refer to the screenshot below for help.

    3. See the ‘Access on Lock Screen’ toggle switch? Tap to turn it OFF as shown in the screenshot below.

From here on in you (or anyone else) won’t be able to access Control Center on the iOS lock screen, no matter what they try. And if you want to take security to another new level, then navigate to Settings > General > Siri and turn the voice assistant off completely.
Reset iPhone, iPad Without Losing Your Data Or Apps - How To

You must be wondering why we asked you to turn off Siri. To put things in plain words – Siri allows you to turn system toggles on or off, and with the personal assistant disabled, an ill-intentioned individual won’t be able to turn off things like WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. Basically you’re making your device as secure as possible here.
While it’s not necessary that you do what we’ve mentioned above, but extra precaution can go a long way in protecting your data. And if you did found the above guide useful however, then be sure to let us know about it in the comments section below.

How To Access / View Siri Shazam History On iPhone, iPad – Tutorial

Here’s how you can view and access the history of identified songs via Siri on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch.

Imagine yourself in a situation where you’re at a restaurant (or club), listening to an extremely fire track, and someone asks you to Shazam it, because that’s what regular people do. Just like any other sane person owning an iPhone, you whip our your smartphone, bring Siri to life and utter the magical words ‘What song is that?’ Surely, in a few seconds, Siri identifies the song and throws the result back at you using the power of Shazam in the backend. This process goes on and on till the point you think to yourself – what was that song I identified a few days back using Siri? Now you believe that the ID’d song is completely lost. That’s absolutely not the case, and iOS maintains an entire history of it, except that it’s not easily accessible for no obvious reason.
Silence Siri Voice Feedback On iPhone Using Mute Switch – How To

But don’t panic, we’ll show you how you can view or access that entire Siri Shazam history in a few easy steps, ensuring your ID’d track never falls prey to the ‘lost’ kingdom again.
    1. Launch the iTunes Store app from your home screen.
    2. See the horizontal ‘three lines’ at the top right hand corner of the display? Tap on that.

    Advertisements

    3. Tap on ‘Siri’ tab at the top, and a list of all your identified songs will be revealed to you there and then.
How To Lock / Password Protect Notes On Mac - Tutorial

It’s a wonderful little trick to know about, and from this point onwards you can rest easy knowing that your identified songs are not lost in any way, as iOS maintains a proper list of it in chronological order.
We would’ve loved it if this feature was accessible directly from the Music app rather than iTunes Store. It boggles our mind as to why Apple went down this route. But since they have, we have to make do with it until Apple decides to give this feature a new home somewhere else on our iPhones, iPads, iPod touches.
If you believe that your identified tracks list is filled with embarrassing songs, then you can clear the entire history by tapping on the ‘Clear’ button on the top left hand corner. Refer to the last screenshot above to see what we’re talking about.
