    Scalebound [X1]

Xbox One Exclusive Action RPG ‘Scalebound’ Looks Awesomely Action Filled

PlatinumGames and Microsoft have revealed the first gameplay footage of Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound. The gameplay footage was part of a live demonstration during Xbox One Gamescom briefing, and featured some impressive visuals with your dragon ally looking rather sharp.

Scalebound is an action RPG with visceral action and…. DRAGONS

Scalebound is an action RPG, which puts players in the role of Drew who alongside his noble dragon Thuban must defeat the enemies that threaten the world of Draconis. The game will also include a 4-player co-op mode in which players must fight against legions of enemy soldiers and monstrous enemies of epic proportions.
Scalebound features an accessible but deep combat system allowing chain attacks and devastating combos with your dragon companion. Players will also be able to change their dragon’s appearance as well as to evolve unique abilities and attacks.

In Scalebound, the next great adventure from critically-acclaimed developer PlatinumGames and renowned Game Director Hideki Kamiya, you will experience the journey of a young loner, Drew, who is pulled into the strange, beautiful and dangerous world of Draconis. There Drew is bonded to a fearsome and noble dragon, Thuban, the last of his kind. These two, lone-wolf heroes thrown together by fate must learn to fight as one to defeat the powerful enemies that threaten Draconis, Earth and a vast universe of parallel worlds.
    Features

    • Explore the beautiful and dangerous world of Draconis as you and your dragon companion work to defeat legions of enemy soldiers and epic scale beasts.
    • Adventure on your own or join forces with other players and their dragons to complete custom quests and battle massive creatures together… *
    • Master accessible but deep “stylish action” gameplay. Fluidly chain attacks with your dragon to create devastating combos to unleash upon your foes.
    • Choose your favorite dragon (winged serpent, four legged tank — and more) and then evolve your companion’s unique abilities and attacks as well as its appearance.

Scalebound will release exclusively for the Xbox One Holiday 2016. We will bring you any new information as soon as it becomes available.

Scalebound Inspired By Old-School RPGs, Kamiya Didn’t Play Many Recent Ones

Xbox One exclusive Scalebound is a significant departure from the kind of title Platinum Games is used to create. The Japanese studio is known for its prowess with action heavy titles, while Scalebound is more of an open world RPG.
In an interview with Metro GameCentral, Game Director and Co-Founder Hideki Kamiya explained that the inspiration for the game comes more from the old-school roleplaying games, especially since he didn’t really play many of those published recently.
I’m going to completely admit that I have not played a lot of recent RPGs. [laughs] It really goes back to the old school RPGs that I can speak of and think about, and really draw on for inspiration. So in that sense, maybe from my point of view, when I say the RPG element of Scalebound you’re gonna maybe see some things that are very basic and very simple – whether that might be customising or equipping items, or upgrading.
But all those things are perhaps different from what you’d expect from an RPG, in that all those things you typically do for your own character. The investment in customisation and equipping and so on in Scalebound is not necessarily for you but it’s for Thuban – the dragon character.
Someone that you’re going to start caring for and about. So it’s very different, for me at least, as it’s not really customising, equipping, and upgrading myself but it’s actually putting that thought into the character that you really care for. So I think that’s one differentiation that you could say for certain.
Truth to be told, there have been many great RPGs in the last year or so, from Divinity: Original Sin to Dragon Age: Inquisition, from Pillars of Eternity to The Witcher 3; hopefully Kamiya-san will be able to play them sooner or later.

Elsewhere in the interview, he also confirmed that it will be possible to ride Thuban into flight, but that’s not the main point of the relationship between Drew and the dragon.

[laughs] What is expected of dragons, as you said… I don’t want to betray any of those standard expectations. So that’s what you should expect of the game. I definitely want to answer that, to give you a little bit more, not just context but why the relationship and bond between Drew and Thuban is going to be important and how that is really pushing the narrative of Scalebound.
A lot of times, when you just casually hear, ‘Oh, dragons are in this game’ you think, ‘Oh, it’s a means of transport!’ Or maybe it’s your pet-like-thing. Or maybe it’s just a substitute for a weapon or a tool. But really, at it’s core, there is a bond that is stronger, as the game progresses and you go through the story.
There’s a more emotional and engaging root story that I wouldn’t want Thuban, the character, as a pet or just as a large weapon or a means of transportation. So there’s that which is quite different from what I see as a typical setting for dragons.
Scalebound is shaping up to be one of the most interesting exclusives scheduled for Microsoft’s console. Stay tuned to keep apprised of news on its development, with the target release currently nailed to Holiday 2016.

Scalebound Delayed To 2017 To “Ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations”

Scalebound from developer PlatinumGames, has been officially delayed to 2017.

According the Scalebound team at PlatinumGames, the Xbox One exclusive will be released later than initially planned to “ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations”.
Scalebound delayed to 2017; development going well

The Scalebound team points out that development on the action-rpg is going well. The full update on Scalebound from Platinum can be read below.
As we enter into 2016, we want to provide you with an update on Scalebound, the upcoming Xbox One-exclusive action-RPG that lets you fight alongside a fearsome dragon named Thuban.
Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together. In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned.
We know you’re excited to see more and thank you for your patience. Scalebound is a truly special project that’s been several years in the making, and we are very proud and inspired by all the work our team has done so far.
We will be sharing more about our vision for Scalebound later this year and can’t wait to give you a closer look at the world of Draconis and the incredible creatures and experiences we’re building.

Give Scalebound 'time to breathe' so it can be great, says Microsoft

In the games industry, delays are commonplace. When Platinum Games' Xbox One exclusive Scalebound was delayed into 2017, Xbox One gamers were of course let down, but Microsoft reminded us it's important to give devs the time they need for their projects.

Xbox One Marketing guru Aaron Greenberg recently sat down with IGN to talk about Xbox marketing strategies. At 32:17 Greenberg was asked about Scalebound's delay, and he revealed that it's both a marketing and development decision whenever a game is delayed.

"We were looking at our lineup for this year, and where [Platinum Games] is with Scalebound...that game is super aspirational and huge, and we want to give them enough time and resources to make their vision. From the production standpoint, it makes sense to delay the game. Strategically we think just give it time to breathe and let's make sure we give it enough space to ensure the game is great. First we have to make sure the game is ready, second we have to figure out when's the best time to launch it. Given our 2016 lineup, we decided Scalebound will launch in 2017--a timeframe that'll give it better success."

The interview is pretty interesting and gives a closer look at how Microsoft's Xbox division handles marketing. For example, the company relies on worth of mouth generated from online reviews to spark interest. Considering not every Xbox One game can have its own commercial spots, this makes sense.

As for Scalebound, Platinum's fantasy dragon adventure was delayed for a number of reasons. Not only do the devs more time to polish the game, but Microsoft wants to bolster its 2017 games lineup to maintain a better balance of exclusive content. A lot of factors come into play when a game is delayed, and it's not always a marketing or development decision--it's a team decision.

Greenberg also went on to say that Scalebound will be released in early 2017, so at least we have a tentative timeline. Also, it's great to see Platinum Games and Microsoft are heeding their gut feelings and delaying Scalebound rather than releasing it prematurely.

As the sagely Nintendo exec Shigeru Miyamoto once said: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

It Looks Like Scalebound May Come To PC, Too

If someone told us that we would be writing about all the main Xbox One exclusives moving to Windows PC in the space of a couple months, we could have hardly believed. Sure, the trend was already evident, but even the most hopeful PC gamer would have been hard pressed to believe in such an overwhelming wave.
The first one was ReCore, announced back in early January. Then Quantum Break, Forza 6 Apex, yesterday we got hints for Gears of War 4 and now there’s even some evidence for Scalebound.
Reddit user nodead posted a list of Game IDs for Windows Store extracted from the Package.StoreAssociation.xml file, found among the rest of the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition files. The list includes, among others, titles like ReCore, Forza Horizon 3 and Scalebound.

Scalebound is the action RPG in development at Platinum Games, with Hideki Kamiya at the helm. The game, where the protagonist Drew fights alongside dragon Thuban, has been delayed until 2017 a couple of months ago to make sure that the experience would be properly polished.
Unlike previous Platinum Games titles, Scalebound will feature a non-linear experience with a certain degree of exploration allowed. The Unreal Engine 4 powered title will also feature cooperative gameplay with up to four players banding together (each one with their respective dragons) against stronger foes.
For the moment being this has to remain strictly under the rumor label, but with Microsoft’s new strategy of bringing all the biggest franchises to Windows 10 we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see this officially confirmed at E3 or Gamescom 2016. Stay tuned on WCCFtech for all the latest on Scalebound.

Não era um jogo que estava a acompanhar com grande interesse, mas era um daqueles que a MCSFT se fartava de falar como exclusivo.

    A ver vamos as razões.

    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1332312

Neste caso em particular é uma certeza de que a culpa foi da Microsoft. Tendo em conta a elevada qualidade dos jogos da Platinum Games, não se justifica o cancelamento.
