Apple Pay Coming To China Next Year In Collaboration With UnionPay

On Thursday, Apple announced that it has partnered with UnionPay to bring Apple Pay to China. Apple Pay tops up in the company’s priority list, which will be available in China in early 2016. Since Tim Cook regards China as the company’s biggest market of the future, it would be viable for the company to introduce the mobile payment system. The Apple Pay will allow users in China to pay directly from their smartphones with ease.

Apple And UnionPay Partners To Bring Apple Pay In China

The service will work under the QuickPass system offered by UnionPay which is another mobile payment system in the Chinese market. Essentially, this states that Apple Pay will work in all areas where UnionPay’s QuickPass works. Moreover, the service is also supported by 15 leading banks of the country.
“China UnionPay is dedicated to promoting payment innovations and providing secure, convenient mobile payment experiences for its hundreds of millions of cardholders, aligning multiple parties in the industry,” said Chai Hongfeng, executive vice president of China UnionPay. “We’re very excited to offer Apple Pay among a diverse set of innovative payment options that work with China UnionPay QuickPass.”
While the announcement is officially made by Apple, the company still awaits the deal to pass through necessary regulatory channels along with certification processes. Although, things pretty much look positive for Apple to debut its mobile payment system in China. Let’s see if the deal is approved and maintains national mobile payment and financial industry standards in the Chinese market.

“Apple Pay has revolutionized the way millions of people pay every day with their iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “China is an extremely important market for Apple and with China UnionPay and support from 15 of China’s leading banks, users will soon have a convenient, private and secure payment experience.”
Apple Pay was launched in the United States last fall and the company has expanded its service in new markets like UK and Canada. Since China is Apple’s second biggest market after the US, it makes sense for the company to prioritize the country as the next market on the list. Until now, the negotiations stick out on a point where both parties are unable to negotiate the amount that Apple will adhere per Apple Pay transaction, which is accepted by both, the Chinese banks and Apple.
However, we will definitely keep you guys posted as we hear more details on the subject. As for now, what do you think about the partnership between Apple Pay and UnionPay? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Apple Pay said to be launching in China, France and Canada soon

Already released to those in the US and UK, rumors have mounted that Apple plans to release its payment platform to China extremely soon, with France and Canada to follow before the end of 2016.

While not confirmed by the tech giant directly, China bank announced the release on its official WeChat recently, stating the formal local launch of this service to be February 18th at 5:00.

Some Apple fanatics are looking for and discussing a possible Apple Pay French announcement during WWDC 2016, however unlikely. As for further releases, iPhone In Canada has recently found some Canadian banking related code, helping its mission to string together various Apple Pay related clues regarding a local release in its nation.

Apple Pay Is Now Live In China

Apple has confirmed that its contactless payment solution, Apple Pay, has gone live in China.

Apple Pay Finally Comes To China – Confirms Apple Itself

Sending out emails to developers, Apple has confirmed that Apple Pay is now available for Chinese customers and that developers can start integrating its support in their apps right away.
Currently, it seems as though only ‘China UnionPay credit and debit cards’ are accepted, with more support for other banks certainly arriving in the future.
From Apple’s email sent to developers:
You can now support Apple Pay for your customers in China, providing an easy, secure, and private way for them to pay using their China UnionPay credit and debit cards. Apple Pay lets users pay for physical goods and services such as groceries, clothing, tickets, and reservations within your iOS apps.

It was confirmed a couple of days back that Apple Pay would launch this week in China, with Cupertino’s official email confirming that notion altogether. With a massive contactless payment market that has remained untapped by Apple for a long, long time, it remains to be seen how Apple Pay is treated in the country. But given the success the company has seen in the smartphone and tablet stakes in the region, it’s highly likely that Apple will kick things off with arms wide open.

Apple Pay is seeing healthy and steady growth since its launch, with the service going live in Canada just a while back. It still remains to be seen what other regions Apple will launch its contactless payment service in.
If you’re in China, then this is obviously great news for you, but if you reside in an unsupported country, then hang in tight as Apple will certainly reach your shore in the months, or maybe years, to come.
At this point in time, if you’re looking to utilize the ‘tap and pay’ feature of Apple Pay, then you should be in the ownership of an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s handset, both of which feature a dedicated NFC antenna at the top for contactless payments. iPhone 5s users, as well as those in the ownership of an iPad with Touch ID are limited to in-browser and in-app purchases using Apple Pay only, as these devices don’t have an NFC antenna for contactless payments.
You can also use your Apple Watch for paying for things as well, which is quite handy if you’re asking us, saving you the trouble of taking your phone out of your pocket.

Apple Pay reportedly coming to the mobile web to compete with PayPal

Apple Pay is looking to expand beyond iOS applications and into mobile web payments, according to the latest report from Re/code. The payment service is set to expand to websites "later this year", allowing shoppers to purchase goods and services through a simple tap of TouchID rather than through entering credit card information.
In typical Apple fashion, Apple Pay for websites will be restricted to iPhones and iPads with TouchID that make purchases through Safari. The company is considering expanding this to include Apple notebooks and desktops as well, although these devices currently don't support TouchID, and it's not clear if Apple Pay for websites will launch with support for these devices.
As for timing, it appears as though Apple is preparing to roll out this expansion before the holiday shopping season at the end of the year. Re/code says that some potential partners are currently being informed of Apple's plans, and while it could be announced at WWDC in the middle of the year, that time frame hasn't been confirmed.
If Apple Pay allows iPhone users to pay for products using TouchID, it would compete directly with PayPal as a streamlined payment processing solution for online shopping. At this point PayPal is widely used throughout online stores, but it's market share could be impacted if Apple attempts to enter this market.
Of course Apple's scope for competing with PayPal is limited as Apple Pay only works on Apple devices, which are a small segment of the market overall. However, any expansion will make Apple Pay a more useful and convenient solution for consumers with Apple products, especially if its supported by popular retailers.

Major Win For Apple Pay As Barclays Finally Adds Service Support

As has been the case with the rumor mill over the past couple of years, we’ve seen features and devices leaked out in almost their entirety prior to launches. Manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung and more have had quite a hype built around their devices prior to launch events, with sources being abuzz with specifications, features and images. One such feature that remained in the news for quite a while before its launch was Apple Pay, which came alongside the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014, courtesy of dedicated NFC chips and secure elements introduced by Apple inside both the devices.

Apple Pay Support Finally Added By Barclays After Almost A Year Of Service Launch

When it comes to Apple, the company’s known to introduce features which set its devices apart from the rest of the pack. One of these was Apple Pay, with the launch of which Cupertino managed to make some headway into the mobile payment sphere. With the launch of the service, we saw quite a buzz being created around the service, particularly among the company’s dedicated, long time customers.
However, things weren’t as smooth with Apple Pay as you’d expect, with several retailers not supporting NFC and choosing to stick with traditional ones. Things also became a bit more complicated for Cupertino with the launch of Samsung Pay, which did not require NFC for wireless communication.

The launch of Apple Pay was quite planned as well, with several large banks adopting the service quite early, with Apple announcing quite a few big names at WWDC ’15. But one name was absent from the equation, Barclays, which caused quite a bit of stir among the bank’s customers all around the world.
The First Apple Watch Reviews Are In

Well, if you like to manage your funds with Barclays and also have an iPhone, we’ve got some good news for you today. Your days of carrying a wallet or regular old plastic cards might be over soon as the bank has announced that it will be supporting Apple Pay from here on. Barclays did come under a lot fire from a lot of quarters for not adopting Apple Pay and the bank looks to be eager to move things forward.
So while Apple Pay for Barclays won’t be available in the US as of now, we’re expecting things to smooth out in the near future, with things expected to ease out quite a bit. Thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and stay tuned for the latest.
