Is Apple Tapping Into Audio Hardware? Latest Rumor States Company Is Working On High Quality Audio Format

The acquisition of Beats would obviously not have gone to waste because there is a very high possibility that Apple could be using the expertise that it has recruited in order to start developing audio related products. The latest rumor however, suggests that the company is working on high-quality audio formats.

Hi-Res Audio From Apple Could Be Used To Not Only Produce High Quality Streaming, But Dedicated Audio Products As Well

According to Macrumors, it has been reported that the company is currently in development of Hi-Res Audio streaming up to 96 kHz/24bit, which happens to be a format that is going to arrive in 2016. Currently, the source has stated that the Lightning port iOS 9 is compatible up to 192 kHz/24Bit, but apart from that information, there is no other mention of any other sampling frequency. Not long ago, there was a rumor that stated that the Cupertino tech company was going to remove the 3.5mm audio jack in favor of making its future iPhones much more slimmer, which obviously was met a with a firestorm because the audio jack happens to be one of the most crucial features of a mobile device, especially for millions of audiophiles out there.
However, as we state this, there is a very high possibility that the company could be developing products that will remain dedicated to just the iPhone and iPad lineup, meaning that these audio products ranging from earphones to headphones could just use a Lightning port in order to deliver superior sound quality. We also have to mention here that headphones with 3.5mm jacks have an analog signal throughput, and if manufacturers are going to throw in an analog to digital converter (Lightning possesses a digital signal) with headphones, then we should expect prices of headphones to go up significantly. But still, we’re going to pin our hopes more towards a simple Lightning to headphone converter to handle everything, or wait for Lightning compatible headphones to arrive themselves.

While you will be limited to purchasing audio products with Lightning ports, the added benefit is that the connector is completely digital, which will obviously result in far better sound quality compared to the quality that you have experienced by plugging in products to your 3.5mm headphone jack. We are still going to have to wait for further updates in order to substantiate this claim but if Apple is working on better quality audio formats, then you can rest assure that the company is getting ready to tap the audio market.
